Size of Backing-Spinning Reels
Oh, I understand the space saving idea. But would the 12# mono be too big for these reels. It would be used to back a smaller flouro line.

Size of Backing-Spinning Reels
Hey All, I’ve searched past posts on this topic and many were of the opinion, that within reason, the size of the backing didn’t matter. However, they were talking about bait casters. Would using 12# mono backing on 1000-2500 size spinning reels be too heavy and affect performance or damage the reel? Thanks….Joe

Do Bass Usually Swallow Whole?
Maybe use the same rig since you were getting bit on it. It may work even if you weren’t getting any takers on the larger worm.

Do Bass Usually Swallow Whole?
Happens with weightless Senkos too! Machine gun bite.

Do Bass Usually Swallow Whole?
Have had this happen many times on a shaky head. Would a solution be trying a shorter bait?

Brain Latimer on line.
Yes I watched, but he references test not diameter. That’s okay, I do agree with the points he makes.

Brain Latimer on line.
Understand all the points made, but when does diameter come into play? A fishing buddy swears by 6# test in the clear waters we fish, I’ve used 8#. The difference in our lines is .001”. Is that enough to make a major difference in catching fish?

Brain Latimer on line.
Wouldn’t line diameter factor in as well? Allowing you to fish a higher test with a diameter equivalent to a lower test line?

Spinning Reel Spare Spools-Drag
Thanks all for the replies! They are all older generation Shimanos. I think I’ll use one as an experiment. Take the drag apart and see what I’ve got. As far as grease I’ve seen Cal’s talked up a lot. Do I need the tan or the purple?

Spinning Reel Spare Spools-Drag
No dust. Didn’t think of it making my original post, but is there a chance that over time the original grease would dry up or breakdown?

Spinning Reel Spare Spools-Drag
I’m going to be optimistic when posting this question. But I’m afraid the answer is not going to be what I’m hoping for. I have some spinning reels that came with spare spools. They have never been used and are several years old. Will the drags still operate properly or is this wishful thinking. All are Shimano; two Stradics, a Sedona, and a Sahara. The spools have been stored in the original boxes in a garage cabinet. ?

Flick shake ??
This is my take on it too. I’ll use Falcon or Gammy weighted wacky hooks, usually in 3/32. When the guys in my club talk about the Flick Shake they are usually referring to the Jackal heads and worms. Honestly I don’t really see the difference.

Best braid to fluoro knot
Yeah, whatever works for the individual is how it should be. For a connection knot the Crazy Alberto has worked for me, no failures. It is easier for me to tie on the water too. I do use the Uni knot for terminal and lure knots though. Again easier to tie on the water.

Best braid to fluoro knot
Crazy Alberto. 7 wraps down & 7 wraps up.

Baits You Hate Throwing, but Do Anyway
Weightless Senko. Have better luck with them as a weighted wacky. Jerkbaits. Just haven’t been able to work them right yet. Dropshot. Will use when things get tough.

How much money have you spent on your fishing addiction?
Don’t know, don’t want to know, and will not try to find out. The only thing I do know is that it will continue.

Dealing with USPS
Yep, years ago I worked for FedEx. You wouldn’t believe how far stuff gets thrown or how it’s crammed into a shipping container. I don’t think that’s changed over the years.

Need help with the concept of a rod’s sweet spot
Thinking about it, this may be the road to go down. Of course when you’re shooting the breeze with your buddies and a guy says “Man I just bought this new XYZ rod and it sure is great, it would blow the doors off your ABC model.” That’s when the Bait Simian starts to whisper in your ear!??

Need help with the concept of a rod’s sweet spot
Thanks for all the information! All brought up some very good points. What all of you alluded to was that experience and skill help you navigate through the many ratings across different manufacturers when picking a rod for certain applications. I am no where near that level yet, but it fascinates me how you all are able to handle all the variables when picking the right tool for the job! Thanks again!

Need help with the concept of a rod’s sweet spot
Generally speaking can this be determined based on the rod’s lure weight rating? If so, would it be somewhere at the midpoint? Or is it a personal preference thing based on how the user casts the rod; where the sweet spot may be either on the lower or higher end of the rating?

Wacky Rigs
Many swear by the alternate brands and have success with them. Many posts on here attest to that. But the addiction to GYCB is hard to kick.

New to Wacky and Neko - tool question
I’ve found that the standard O ring tools are good for Senko sized baits and rings. But rings for smaller diameter baits (trick worm & robos) are too small to get on the tool. Are there smaller diameter tools available?

Best Selling Soft Plastic
Yeah the Senko. Other than that probably something from Zoom, Brush Hogs & lizards come to mind.

Need help valuing my gear
Don’t know if this option is available to you but we used to have a tackle shop around here that would allow you to place items for sale in the shop. They would let you know if someone was interested. I bought a couple rods that way. It’s been years since I did this so I don’t recall the shop owners cost for doing this. Sadly the shop is no longer there, it was a gem.

Aches and Pains
A week from 70. Sidelined now with cervica radiculoparhy in my neck. Why the doctor didn’t say “pinched nerve” is beyond me. Been in pain for a month now. Probably caused from old football injuries and physically demanding jobs. It sucks, but will get through it. Like WRB said, above ground is good!
