  1. Some states have an advisory service to assist you, even take water samples; worth checking into.
  2. Another good obversation; thanks.
  3. My local Walmart was closing them out too; Plano must have a major makeover in the works.
  4. Most of my rods are also 7-7'6"-7'11"; I am probably going to purchase a unit for only one side to see how that works out before considering a second one.
  5. Thankyou Bulldog, those are better photos than I was able to find. Naturally, I'm going to approach this slowly, but the first thing I notice is that his boat is single console, which leaves the left side rod tips endangered, but not on the right. My boat is double console, which may alleviate that situation. The Dex Organizer website shows the units do not need to be purchased as a pair, and also come in different sizes. Thanks again, your input should be helpful to others who may have a sparked interest in this product. I also notice there are no spinning rods on display, and they need more space than bait casters.
  6. Looking further, David Dudley is also using the Dex Organizer; I'm definitely interested. Googled David Dudley's Boat.
  7. I watched about a 10 acre pond from it's very beginning, being carved out of a midwest cornfield. It was on a Boy Scout Reservation. Being short on funds, the pond was not stocked for 2 years, only used for swimming and canoeing. When the pond was re-evaluated for stocking, it was discovered to already have a large population of Bluegills; they had not been stocked, and there was no tributary source from where they could have entered. It was determined they had been brought in by birds; Blue Herons, Geese, etc.. Eggs from other water bodies had stuck to their feet and eggs from devoured bluegills had been passed in bird droppings. Interesting theory.
  8. I found them, thanks to casts_by_fly and detroit1. Dex Organizer.com
  9. That's the one; I'm going to try to track it down. Thankyou.
  10. I'm watching the Guntersville Tournament, and notice Bryan Schmitt has an organizational system on deck which keeps his rods separated and tangle free. Do any of you know if this is a commercially marketed product, or something of his own making?
  11. They burn very well in bonfires. For indoor fireplaces, stuff them with newspapers.
  12. That's a good start for only four years, but compared to some Forum members you are still in puberty with a collection that size.
  13. I don't have any and never will because I'm never going to buy another lure for as long as I live. Ha!
  14. Try turning the hitch on your truck upside down, and apply some marine grease to the ball.
  15. My Border Collie will be watching for Phil; if she has a successful hunt I won't have to feed her for 2 days.
  16. I set by feel, locking it down pretty good with 15# leaders and 30# braid. With light line presentations I loosen it up pretty good, but I lose fewer fish by making a second hookset.
  17. Reading this Forum Topic causes me to wonder : "are some stern lights noticeably brighter than others"? I'm referring to the common approx. 4 ft. pole with a round white light. I know there are some with camera attachments and chargers, which I have no need for. A brighter light would be an additional safety precaution. I once jammed a 4/0 jig hook into the base of my thumb while swatting at a Deer Fly. I was alone and jerked it out with pliers; made me feel sorry for all the fish I've done that to. Ouch!
  18. Agree, but watch out for those pitchfork bones.
  19. In my opinion, a 3# Smallmouth could kick a 5# Largemouth's butt if it wanted to. I've watched 15 inch Smallmouth nest guarders attacking multiple and circling big carp like a torpedo; successfully keeping them at bay.
  20. I've seen that photo before; as I recall, the guy claimed all fish were released in good condition; what a crock of you know what that was. Perfect example of why big fish are becoming scarcer all the time.
  21. That gear ratio is also good for cold water cranking, jerkbaits, and many topwaters, but I find a 6.3 more versatile.
  22. Bass are my forever passion and I release them as quickly as possible; I do not even take time for a photo. A rare exception is when I have done all the CPR possible and failed. I have to look away when others take them to the fillet table or mishandle them in a manner certain to cause mortality. I was raised in an era when everything was "catch and eat", often depended upon to ease the cost of table fare for the family; I changed, but my parents and brothers never did. I admire tournaments where immediate release is required, and I think back to an article published in Alabama a few years ago about the high percentage of Bass which expire in the days following tournament weigh-ins.
  23. I've been digging out some of my older reels that haven't seen much or any use in a while. I've found 3 that I'm thinking about sending to DVT along with others that do receive regular use. A Daiwa 103HVLA, and 2 of the round gold color Calcuttas (201B, and a 51) ; can't make up my mind to sell or use them again.
  24. Baby Poop is an excellent color for spring Smallmouth in the Ozarks. Tubes in that color are the most popular.
