Fishing a new reservoir
New ones that I have fished produced lots of fish on lots of different baits but we haven’t had any for a long time.

Smallmouth Weird Behavior
That is typical behavior for smallmouth and spots here in our highland reservoirs though we don’t normally see them as we are fishing deeper than we can see. Largemouth are not as likely to be that way most of the time. When I am in an area with smallmouth and spots, if one comes unbuttoned I don’t give up on the cast because others close by generally will rush to the bait.

How many states have you fished and what is your opinion of them?
I’ve been to 49 states but haven’t fished in many. I just fish around here in Missouri and northern Arkansas. There are 7 lakes from 30 to 100 miles from me ranging in size from 15,000 acres to 55,000 acres so I have so many to choose from that I don’t venture far from home. Table Rock is the one I fish most and it alone has 1000 miles of shoreline. I just try to reach my yearly goal and I have two months to get 17 more bass.

Inflatable life jacket
A friend of mine works for the Corps of Engineers. He said they only wear the Mustang like MN Fisher recommends so I bought one. It stays in the boat and has done great for 3 years.

Favorite Keitech swim bait colors?
So far I am limiting myself to 3 head colors; chartreuse over white, gray over white and gray.

Battery Selection Help Please
If you have an Auto Zone near you can probably get a dual purpose agm 24 series for less money. You will get better and longer run time with the highest rc that you can find.

How often do you still use an anchor?
Not at all since spot lock

Three favorite lures for spotted bass in the fall?
Same as any other time; jigs, swim baits, Shaky head, Ned. Spots are the number one fish in the upper rivers on Table Rock.

I switched to it last spring. It has out performed any other main line to leader knot that I have ever used. It is getting close to the applications where I use those setups. I have 12# fluorocarbon tied to 15# braid. They haven’t been used since spring. I’m thinking they all should be redone. Do you guys retie them after that much time or just keep going?

Is there a Mustad hook that can be swapped with Owner 5313
Have you looked at the Do-It football jig mold that takes a flat eye? I have one and there are lots of hooks that work in it. I’ve recently been using a Gammy 114 in 2/0 to make small profile jigs. It is a 90° hook and fits just fine.

Favorite Keitech swim bait colors?
What method will you be using to paint them?

What is the overall consensus and breakdown on how exactly barometric pressure impacts fishing, particularly for river smallmouth?
I kept a record of the barometric pressure in my fishing log for a few years. I could never find a correlation to it and how the fishing was so I quit recording it.

Is there a Mustad hook that can be swapped with Owner 5313
X2 on what Allen said. Once Mustad outsourced to China their quality went down. Meanwhile Eagle Claw quality went up.

Favorite Keitech swim bait colors?
Allen I catch most of mine on sight flash, Tennessee shad, blue chartreuse, sun gill and smallmouth magic.

How would you fish these conditions?
I we had the same conditions last time on the upper White River on Table Rock Lake. I used a Jewel Pee Wee jig in 7/16 oz with a Yamoto 4” twin tail trailer. I cast to the log portion of the lay down and let the jig fall. At the end of the fall I lifted the rod feeling for a limb. When the jig came up to the limb I jiggled it up and over. I let it fall again and repeated until I was clear of the limbs. When I got a bite it was normally on the fall after going over a limb.

Building a spinner bait component box- build on the water baits
I did the same thing several years ago with jigs. I used to camp as many as 30 days in a row and used a lot of jigs. When it was all said and done I only needed a few of them to get the job done. I think that you will find the same thing to be true with your spinnerbaits but you can have fun experimenting even though you will be missing casting time.

Midwest fall LMB fishing advice
I think you should have titled your post UPPER MIDWEST. I’m in SWMO and we are waiting for the late summer doldrums to pass so we can get into winter mode. Today we fished all over the upper White River arm of Table Rock Lake. We did manage 20 bass with 2 keeper smallmouth, 3 keeper spots and 1 keeper meanmouth, but we had to cover a lot of places and make hundreds of casts.

Heat shrink tubing on rod handles
I’ve been doing it for years. I think I have it on all of my rods. Some of it has been on for at least 10 years and is as good now as when installed. There is very little length shrinkage. I get mine from The Mud Hole. Do some measuring to be sure to get the right size.

A-Rigs
I started making and using them about 20 years ago. They don’t produce as well as they used to but they still catch fish. I’ve made them lots of ways but my favorite is with willow leaf blades on the top two wires and blades in the middle of the others. When I first heard about them they were hard to find so I used electric fencing wire and epoxy putty to make them. I fish them shallow (under 15’) most of the time so I use 1/16 or 1/8 oz heads on 4/0 hooks. I use a medium wire hook that will bend out with 50# braid. I have used a variety of baits but like swim baits and flukes best. White has been the most productive color. I have tried several reels and rods and have settled on 7’ heavy rods with 5:1 reels. Little fish don’t seem to be inclined to hit them. Most of the time they will be keepers.

Cheapest Jig Paint - can I use Mica?
The cheapest is probably going to be from Harbor Freight.

Upsizing Fall LMB
It’s been the opposite here lately. The Jewell Pee Wee with a small twin tail has been the best.

Bass Pro Carbonlite 2.0/St. Croix Triumph series/Fenwick HMG
I don’t own any except the HMG and I have 7 of them so I guess I like them.
