  1. Those who have fished both I’m guessing overall the Zodias has an edge but the tatula (not elite) is about 50 dollars cheaper. Does anyone know how light the tatula is? I know the Zodias are super light. I’m looking at the 6’10” mh casting in both brands.
  2. That might be an ok rod for chatterbaits but that will be terrible for crankbaits. If I was trying to do both I would look for a H powered glass rod or glass composite.
  3. First things first. You should be able to get all those rods for slightly less than the prices you were quoted. Don’t be afraid to make offers. Number 2, for the money expride is the best value however you do get a good warranty with loomis. I have a few exprides and a few loomis including a conquest 844 mbr which to me is the be all end all if I could only have one rod for the rest of my life. That being said you do have to get used to the slower action. It is slower than 90% of the fast action rods on the market today but it has enough backbone that once you get used to it you will love it.
  4. 20lb straight braid. I catch more fish on a Chatterbait each year than any other bait and don’t lose many. Remember your typically throwing thumping baits in lower vis water which means you don’t need an invisible line. Also when moving baits line visibility is also less important.
  5. As you can see from the comments above the loomis mbr line of rods is very versatile. Just figure out how much power you need based on how heavy the lures are and how heavy the cover is. I went with the mbr 844 because I like to power fish in and around cover. But from what I hear the 843 is a good all around rod for most people. Then just get an nrx for your Spinning Rod, it’s a no brainer don’t overthink it. It’s the standard by which all other rods are measured.
  6. I have exprides but to me the best VALUE in fishing rods is the zodias. They lighter and more sensitive than most rods twice the price.
  7. Look at your baits and also think about what type of fishing you do the most then buy a rod for that. If your think crankbait rod, ask yourself how many times you’ve fished a crankbait this year? How many crankbaits do you own? There is nothing worse than buying a rod because you want to fisha technique more and then not actually using it much. I speak from experience unfortunately.
  8. At your price based on what I own (I’ve owned all brands below): If you want the lightest and most sensitive go with shimano zodias or expride. If you want warranty go with dobyns, g loomis or st croix If you want fit and finish go with megabass
  9. If you practice with the one you have even if it takes time to learn it could be worth it because you’ll have a nice heavy and long rod to drive home the frog hooks and pull the fish out. A rod with a softer tip might be easier to use but it won’t drive the hooks as well. It’s a give and take situation.
  10. I never really believed Lews could compare but I’ve heard the term shimano fanboy used so much I wanted to hear some other opinions. Sounds like most agree with me that Shimano is better. I’ve had a couple Daiwas but I haven’t had any of the higher end ones. But I’m definitely not paying retail for a steez or some of their other ridiculous prices.
  11. Frog and fluke
  12. Well that was easy. I’ll stick to shimanos.
  13. I prefer shimano reels but wanted to try out a Lews. I have shimano dc reels as well as a few metaniums and I really don’t think any lews will stand up to the quality and performance I get from shimano but I’m willing to try one out and see. For those that have fished both or own both, which Lews reels would you put up against shimano? I’m looking at the higher end Lews reels.
  14. I own multiple mgls and dc reels and would say if your main concern is wind I would go with a dc reel. In the end the mgl reels are probably more versatile but they will backlash in the wind just like other reels.
  15. It doesn’t have to be somewhere regular bass boats can’t access I was just spitballing
  16. I have a bass raider style mini bass boat and was thinking about driving down from ohio for a day on the water. Any spots or areas that would be good and safe for a trolling motor only mini bass boat? Obviously only looking to fish shallow. Maybe somewhere regular sized boats can’t access?

Kaera for small, phat mat daddy for big
  18. I think you should check hooks first. As you can see people land a lot of fish on chatterbaits with all different setups. I feel I’ve found the perfect balance between fast and moderate with the g loomis mbr 844 but that’s just me.
  19. Hey guys I made this quick video for anyone in the market for these rods. I tried to focus on the specs of the rods and how they affect most frog fishing. Let me know what you think. Disclaimer: I’m not trying to start a YouTube channel so video is not the best.
  20. 1. Go get actual braid, I would suggest 20 or 30lb. Just get whichever is on sale. 2. Set the spool tension knob just tight enough to where the spool barely moves side to side 3. Set the dial to the number 2 setting 4. Make some medium casts don’t try to bomb it Also once you get the line on the spool go outside and clip your line to something and walk the line out then put some tension on it and reel it up so that the line is nice and tight on the spool. I have 4 dc reels including the slx and have owned others and this works for me.
  21. Sorry but if you have loomis jig rods why would you use mbr rods for jigs, t-rigs, and other similar applications. You can if you want and some do but all I was saying is that they are not going to be as effective as stepping up one power or getting a faster taper. To each his own.
