What should be my next rod/reel
For sure. I have a shimano expride 7’3” xh that is known to be a great frog rod but I don’t frog on the lakes I fish, it has a 5.8 or 6.8 keitech boot-tail on it probably 90% of the time. Some other uses I’ve found for it is 1/2oz+ jigs fished offshore or deeper than 10 ft and carolina /mojo rigs. It’s got a mod-fast taper making it pretty versatile.

New Shimano SLX brake cover won’t close!
Loosening the spool tension knob a turn or two should help.

Lure ID?
Stumped yall last time, going for two straight. Got a few of these from an old friend who can no longer fish, anyone recognize them? They're a fairly tough feeling plastic like material with a hook hole at the very front that doesn't feel like they'll rip like your standard modern plastics.

Comments on my proposed set up?
I owned that st croix mh spinner for years and tried as I may I never found an ideal use for it, it's pretty stiff and tip heavy, I actually used it on occasion for light frogging and 7" senkos. I'd suggest going to the medium power, it will be far more versatile. What lures do you mostly use?

AC70MHM replacement?
Dobyns has a couple great values in their fury line, the 705cb and 704cb, both around $120

Go to prespawn topwater..
My pick is not what some would consider a topwater but I twitch a weightless trick worm in and around beds and open areas with shallow weeds, it stays very close to the surface and if worked at a good clip it'll stay on top, my best day this year so far was with this technique.

Lure ID help.
This is a strange one indeed, I have a new theory that it may be a tube insert jig head as the guy I got these from was really into tubes, but if so I don’t know why you’d want to elongate the head vertically. Edit: well scratch that, it would make no sense to paint them if they were designed as an insert.

$150 Spinning Rig
Personally I’d spend the bulk of the budget on the rod. There’s a daiwa revros 2500 on Amazon right now for $49.98, could pick up a st croix triumph for a hundo or a little more for a mojo bass.

Lure ID help.
Anyone recognize these? Just inherited some and I think they’re supposed to be a shaky head but the design of it has me confused.

Anybody using p-line tactical?
Been using 15lb for several years, zero complaints other than price, picked some up last year when they had the bogo free sale. I probably wouldn’t pay full price for it, seagaur abrazxX is cheaper and just as good.

baitcast reel for flipping/pitching
Been really enjoying pitching with my new shimano curado mgl, the 7.4:1/29ipt retrieve is versatile, does well for cast n crank lures as well.

What size hook/weight for flashy swimmer?
The only two options you have that are going to fit that lure is the 5/0 1/4oz or the 6/0 3/8oz. I find the 1/4oz more versatile as you can add weight to your rig to fine-tune your speed and depth.

My 3 Go To Baits This Year
I did this last year... jigs, worms, and swimbaits. Results... average fish size up, numbers down, as expected with a new pb to boot. Additional benefit of increased confidence and knowledge of where how and when to use them.

Yet another rod selection advice request - St. Croix LTB Dock Sniper or Dobyns DC 705c
In my search for a dedicated tight cover rod I've narrowed it down to the st croix ltb dock sniper and the dobyns champion 705c. I want a short, powerful, light, balanced rod for pitching and skipping jigs and plastics up to and possibly a little over an ounce. Not familiar with dobyns jig rods but I've owned st croixs in the past and am drawn to them but it's no secret the ltb's have a reputation of being tip heavy but I also read they improved them a few years back. There's very little info out there that I could find on the st croix dock sniper in particular and was hoping any owners or previous owners could chime on how balanced either of these rods are. Other recommendations welcome too.

A heavy jig rod
The interesting thing about the expride xh is that it actually has a mod-fast taper but still has the backbone for them monster hooksets.

A heavy jig rod
The 7'3" xh expride is awesome for 3/8-1oz jigs plus trailers, it's got an amazing weight to power ratio, is light and agile and is way more manageable than your typical big jig rods which are usually 7 1/2 foot or more. It's becoming one of my all time favorites. I use it for jigs, magnum swimjigs as well as use it for throwing 5-7" weedless rigged boot tails. It's rated to 2 oz but I can full send a working class zero 6" citizen (1.3oz) plus a 1/2 oz 8/0 beast hook and it feels like it still has a little left in the tank, not much though and I doubt it will handle 3 oz without careful lob casting.

My weakness as a bass fisherman.
Well it is simpler to pick up a different rod than to re-tie, so why not simplify to the extreme and bring every rod you own

What’s everyone’s favorite jig trailer particularly under $4?
Zoom (or other brand) twin tail grub. Does a fine job of imitating crawfish claws on the back of a jig and as a bonus it swims great as a trailer for swimjigs, chatterbaits, spinnerbaits etc.

Concern about soft plastics not sinking fast enough
Splitshot or mojo rig, I usually put a 1/16 or 1/8 oz weight anywhere from 9-24” from the hook, you could peg a worm weight or gremlin makes a bullet shaped crimp on weight.

Best beginner swimbait and a rig rod
It all depends on lure weight, beyond about 3.5 ounces the 795 gets a little squirrely despite its 5 ounce rating.
-
Can I use clip on barrel weights clipped on unweighted swimbait hooks?
The problem will be that the weight sliding up and down the hook shank will make the action inconsistent and possibly horrible. Bps makes some small cylindrical shaped weights in various sizes designed to be clamped on to hooks. What size and brand of swimbaits were you looking to get and how were you intending to fish them?

Comercial Line Keepers?
A little late but here goes anyway, the best line keeper I’ve ever used is pictured below, it’s an elastic hair band about two inches across and can be had at the dollar store for a whole bag of them.
