Found myself looking for a reel for that same purpose myself. I settled on the Tat 200, but if I had to do it again, I would go 150. The 150 will still hold more line than the Curado.

Yo Zuri Hybrid is a great budget line. Buy on diameter, not lb test as its underrated.

IMO that's key. The moment you start watching things it gets dangerous ... especially if you don't realize its just a bunch of people trying to make money or sell you something.

I tried it once upon a time and it was the only time that I've had braid cut into the rod guides. Outside of that it managed fine on the reel. I believe it was 30lb power pro.

Unless the lightning rods have changed, I wouldn't consider those handles cork. Its rubberized cork composite stuff. They are good rod for the price, I just wouldn't call that cork.

I experimented switching frame bearings over to bushings and quickly realized that much tighter tolerances need to be built into reels for bushing to work smoothly. If something isn't machined precisely on a certain axis, the bearing allows for a small amount of play and can keep spinning smoothly, which from my experience is not the case with bushings. Perhaps its different with those plastic bushings which have little grease pockets but my experience with brass bushings wasn't a good one.

I'd give the lighter rod a shot. That said, I don't really like the K for 1/4oz and under that has any level of wind resistance.

I considered it but thats really only ideal if all you use is cassette spools or whatever you call them.

Where are you getting these numbers? When i was looking at HRF spools I'm pretty sure it held less 14lb than that. I believe it could do max 150m of 4lb YZH which is fine for braid. *Edit YZH is pretty thick so those numbers might check out.

I wouldn't get another K. I know they get lots of love around here but it felt like a step down from the "I" series to me. I'd go tatula but I'm sure others will chime in with even better recommendations.

The idea of backing is that its buried deep enough that you should never get to it by casting. If you cast your farthest and you are getting into the backing, then yes, replace it. If you are not, then you should be fine.

For me, same number of wraps as before. I do not do any half hitches. I carefully remove the line from the tool, making sure it doesn't undo and then tie a Rizzutto finish. I tighten as I did before, pulling both ends of the braid lightly first, then pulling the leader and braid apart hard. Clip ends with about 1/8" tag, burn leader end to a bulb, burn braid end to keep from fraying.
