Most consistent color
If it has Watermelon in its name I am happy. Also a bluish or purple color gets equal shared time.

Does the time of day matter for a whopper plopper?
I’ve used the 75, 90 and 110 WP’s and the BPS nockoffs with success anytime I use them. Lakes, pond, river. Bass and musky. All times of the day.

Fish species you've never caught?
Duck River immediately made me think of the Duck River Sword cache. Is that something that all the locals such as yourself is familiar with? @Tennessee Boy Snail Darter? Let’s us know when that’s accomplished @TnRiver46 Stripers, get over top of them with a 2 ounce Mann’s manalure in yellow and you’ll be a school teacher in no time! @NYWayfarer

I HAVE A NEW FAVORITE JIG TRAILER
I like what I see from Molix but my local shop rarely has their products. I’m gonna make a run there today and suggest they stock more Molix. Ike would approve!

Soft plastic responsiveness
@Catt Is there anybody making something similar or comparable to the old 7.5” Gene Larew Ring worm with the curly tail ?

First top water bass of the year...
I threw a Senko the other evening and nothing for over a half an hour, meanwhile my wife had on a 6” Zoom lizard and caught 5 bass. I switched to those new to me Max Scent big purple worms and had 8 or 9 bass on in the next half an hour and got 5 in. Try the old purple worm and see how it goes.

What advantage(s) does a spinning rod have over a bc rod?
You have some beautiful reels @bulldog1935 !! The question I have is how many reels are in your collection?

What advantage(s) does a spinning rod have over a bc rod?
Fairy wands make magic, duh. When needing small and light it does just right. The way I work the lure while holding a spinning rod grip, puts my thumb in a fish’s lip. I can afford to fish even though my pockets aren’t deep, a lil spinning setup can be had on the cheap.

Soft plastic responsiveness
What soft plastic am I looking for when I want to barely inch it along but get a response of movement from it? I was throwing a max scent Berkeley purple worm dragging it through cattails and letting it fall between the holes in the cover and was wondering if I could have used a better plastic lure there? The fish were liking it fine but maybe I could have done even better?

Best sized spinnerbait for creek/river smallmouth?”
Mepps is top notch for an in-line spinner. I always bought the small Booyah spinners for creek smallies

I have a new neighbor
It seems because of forums like this that fishermen with our sort of “fascination” with fishing is common but really I never talk to anybody that shares our interest or is harassed by the lure monkey on the level that we are. At best I figure there are few as a dozen fanatical BR members per state. We are an endangered type. Can you imagine if you lived next to Some of these guys here? Good times!

Are bass spiteful and moody? Also they smell good
I don’t mind the smell of bass. I also enjoy sardines but I do like a lil mustard on them. But I prefer my fried fish not so fishy. If you want to talk about something nasty, catch you a rat snake about 5 feet long and let him wrap around your arm... he’ll start foaming and put off some stink that even @TnRiver46 would not approve of!!

How do yall approach “Let the fish talk?”
Good info Fred! Btw, do you still live beside Ricky and Lucy?

Are bass spiteful and moody? Also they smell good
I’ll never figure out why guys like Hoppes so much. It’s my most commonly used but it stinks to me. But fish on the other hand thatsa some sweet smell. To the op, yes, these fish are well aware of this game we play. We fake them out with artificial food, stick our thumb in their mouth, smile at them, take selfies with them then pitch them back into the drank. They know our game well. Sometimes they play along, sometimes they don’t. And op, the secret is to grow a mustache or if one cannot be grown apply a peel n stick mustache, then you can rub that fish cologne closer to the olfactories!

What do you think is the ideal rod length for creek/river smallmouth fishing?
I’m a long time smallmouth creek angler. I think the perfect setup is a 5 foot or 5’6” ultralight rod, a small spinning reel such as a Mitchell 308 and 6 lb p line. My disclaimer to the above is that my average fish 14-15” or less, anything over 16” is a trophy and my biggest creek bass trophy list I can count on one hand is 4 fish 18 to 21inches. I think if you’ll begin your journey into lures you’ll prefer it to live bait. You are ready!
