My dads got boxes of cocahoe minnows still from when we lived on the Texas coast when I was a kid.

Ashamed to say I don't own these...even more ashamed to say I've never read them. And I call myself a basshead.

Maybe something like a tailspin would work? Or how about dropping vertically on them with Ned or damiki rig?

I've tried a spinnerbait with no skirt but like @Bird said the skirt adds buoyancy and volume that I like. It helps slow the fall when I drop it. This differs alot from an under spin mainly because the profile of a spinner bait is much bigger...an under spin is much more subtle. So for me it would go like this stained water to moderate clarity or low light=spinner bait...slightly cleaner water or bright conditions=swim jigs....extremely clean water, cold water or high pressure (both fishing pressure or barometric like bluebird skies)= under spin or plain jighead.

I'd love that but decent scallops are hard to find around here man. Which is tough for me I grew up around incredible seafood in the Texas gulf coast....fresh shrimp, blue crab, oysters, squid, redfish,red snapper, grouper, mahi mahi,cobia,speckled trout,crawfish and countless other tasty morsels. I miss it. Recipe looks fantastic btw...just what I'm looking for. Thanks buddy!!? Never tried it but it would do for sure. But ive got some raw frozen shrimp and I feel like cooking!

Girlfriend and I are both still deciding which way to go. Haven't got a flu shot in almost 20 years...got the flu last year for the first time in almost 15.... Was sick 3 days then back to work. As stated above its a very personal decision..everybody has to do what's right in there situation..I don't blame anybody for going either way.

I use them all the time around rock and wood with great success.

Last year I caught my biggest largemouth of the year not long after ice out with water temps under 50. That's got me extra excited for ice out this year...me and a buddy are gonna spend time targeting fat prespawn girls.

I fish very small ponds that I know quite well so it's not uncommon for me to catch one first cast. It is uncommon for me to catch only 1 bass... A skunk us more common for me than a single fish. So no I don't believe its a jinx.

Squarebill territory there. Weightless fluke or senko as well.

I order from tackle warehouse all the time...I live in Iowa and I can't really think of a time it took over a week to get my stuff.

I have moderate success....something cool about them for sure that's why I keep trying them! That said in the same time frame when a red trap is the deal I've crushed em on a gold black back.

Ha...I posted this then went downstairs and rigged up a tube! Came back up and the first suggestion is tubes.

So for bottom fishing in cold water I've usually used shaky, Ned and of course a jig. I'm looking for recommendations for plastics to fish in cold water on a Texas rig? Just want another option

Well I finally found myself a jerkbait\popper rod...ended up going with a st Croix mojo 6ft 8 med ex fast. I wanted a fast but this is what they had..still has a fairly soft tip and I'm gonna spool it up with 10# big game so it should perform just fine. Best part was I walked into Scheels with $150 in gift cards and the rod after tax was $149.80. Perfect!

Nice fish! We are in that in between time...no open water but ice is trash...I know it won't be long but I'm getting itchy!

I'm hoping my local small ponds are open by Sunday. I have a feeling I may be defeated as well but it will be a blast trying. I should clarify I will probably skunk for bass but the ponds have rainbows so ill likely catch a few fish.

Your right I do! I never bass fish up there...seems I'm always chasing pan fish.

I 100% believe that new anglers should choose a few baits and hone those then branch out from there. I think some of the cornerstone baits that are classics are still great starting points. Spinner bait..Jig...Texas rigged plastic worm...popper. Get good with those and you will already have working knowledge and can apply that to things like shaky, ned, lipless,squarebill,chatterbait and swim jig. After that I think things like jerkbaits and walking frogs that take a little more practice can be tackled. BTW what qualifies as experienced? Is 20 years bass fishing enough??
