Not where I fish. I tried them while my buddy wore me out with gold. I catch fish on black and blue soft plastics/jigs though, same as I do all year. Now, that's just anecdotal evidence, but it's evidence, nonetheless.

I have moderate success....something cool about them for sure that's why I keep trying them! That said in the same time frame when a red trap is the deal I've crushed em on a gold black back.

   For me: In clear water, yeah. Kinda. More red than orange.

Did you make that spinnerbait with the French blades?  How well does it work?  Do you use those blades in with other colors?

Agree with @jimmyjoe

Red lipless crank are OG for me in the spring. I can’t catch a cold with anything orange.

That must be why red doesn't work for me. IDK why, but the water here is generally muddier in winter. This winter has been muddier than average due to a major surplus of rain.

That red one may work in the flooded vegetation near shore. Used to be a great pattern for me. Give it a whirl bud. ?

On Toledo Bend red is a year round thing.

 

Watermelon red is better than watermelon anything.

 

Spinnerbaits with a red head will out produce all others.

 

Red bug, Plum, Plum Apple, Blue Fleck, & other reds are deadly.

I've done pretty well with a red craw color Rattletrap at certain times in spring.

I have good luck with red and orange all year long, as long as, the water is muddy. 

What I've noticed around here is that the bass will want either red, orange, or orange reddish color.  I'll have to find the correct color and depth to trigger bites.

   Got my first two bass of the season this afternoon  ....... on this:

 

 

 

Tried other colors. Nothing worked except this.                            jj

I definitely have more success on other colors. Red is my least productive.

Red is a fickle color for me and most anglers I know here locally.  Reddish browns and reddish greens have worked when there is ample stain to the water.  I read that red is one of the first shades to loose it’s color as the light penetration decreases. It would seem reds would have good contrast though.  I have enough baits in red hues to cover most scenarios though.

In cold water, whether fall, winter, or early spring I have had some success with red crankbaits. I caught my PB on a red craw colored lipless crankbait in December and have caught good bass on a flat sided red crankbait.  Gonna test out the red bladed jig bite in the next few weeks. So it's a yes for me.

I'm a firm believer in both colors. All red lipless cranks and any color crank with an orange belly pre-spawn seems to get them riled up. Except for a Model A and a Deep Little N in red, they seem to prefer other, more natural colors in the summer.

Another "red" I do extremely well with is Black Neon, black with red metal flake.

 

Black-n-blue is my #1 choice for jigs, black neon is #2.

 

Texas Rigged black neon worms, craws, & lizards.

 

Love red/orange baits. All year long tho...depending where I'm fishing.

 

But in the spring this color Red Eyed Shad is magic. I can throw other red/orange traps and do ok, but when I put this color on something happens. Is it coincidence? Maybe.
