Tired of it…
I grew up In and learned how to drive right outside of Houston. From that and the few times I've gone back to visit I'm extremely grateful to live in a small Midwest farming community. People around here don't seem to take other peoples safety as lightly as big city folks, in my experience. That said there are crappy drivers everywhere and all you can do is pay attention and look out for them.

The official "Who's drinking tonight?" thread
Got a few new ones to try tomorrow...Bakers 7 and a Yellowstone 7 year single barrel, never had either. In the month or so I've also picked up a George Dickel 13 BIB and was also gifted an Eagle rare 10...both very different but also both very good. Dickel products get alot of hate for having a minerally vitamin note which I can tell is there but doesn't bother me \ distract from the whiskey for me. But I've gotta say they have some of the best bargains in the whiskey world...13 year BIB for $55 and I've also got a 15+ year single barrel.store pick which is excellent for $70.

Cancer
I'm sorry for your struggles man, cancer really is merciless. A few years back a guy I work with lost his daughter in her 20s to cancer then a year or two later another guy I work with lost his wife a stepdaughter and a granddaughter in like 12-15 month period. Now 3 weeks ago my wife came home from work and she informed me that a kid she's taken care of at day care for almost 10 years has just been diagnosed with Leukemia.

Crappie in a pond?
I've seen it go both ways...I've seen ponds and even small lakes with seemingly endless crappies but they never get over 8in. Had a state park lake about 20 miles from my house that 3 or 4 winters back we ice fished it and 3 guys could literally catch 7-8 in crappies every drop until you got sick of it. I've also seen small pits and ponds like the one your speaking of ...1-3 acres...where the numbers of crappie are extremely low as they never seem to get a foothold. That said some of the biggest crappie I've ever seen have come from those low number waters. So while its possible your neighbor is mistaken there also may be very low numbers...but possibly you may find a giant.

Giant LMB
State record largemouth here is 10lb 12oz, by your criteria I've only ever caught one bass that qualifies, my PB 8lb 12oz that I caught on a crappie jig. That said outside of 1 rogue 7lber I caught mid summer all my other biggest bass , lets say 6-7lb range have all come from spring cold water...Late March to Early May. I've caught them on all manner of baits....Jigs, spinner bait, bladed jig, lipless. Guess my only advice is fish early in the year and don't be afraid of crappy weather...that's the only common theme in most of my catches .

Hypothetical question
I guess it all depends on the reason....but in general there better be a very solid one. If there isn't a legit reason or I get even a whiff of bulls$%& I would work less time than it took for me to respond to this post. Hope your friend is honest with him\themself about what's going on.

Eating smallmouth....
So I've never eaten one but there's a local river that has nice clean water and a pretty healthy population of 12in smallies. How are they?

Whiskies you always keep in your cabinet\bar.....
Rare breed is one of the best options for cost to quality for me...also I typically keep the knob Creek 9 on hand, I couldn't decide between that or the Turkey 101. Ha...EH Taylor and Blantons, yep your definitely from California aka the bourbon land of plenty, meanwhile in northwest Iowa its hard enough to find regular buffalo trace half the time.

Whiskies you always keep in your cabinet\bar.....
@deaknh03 gotta admire your consistency, this is always your response. I will admit the Black Barrel is very good for the money, I was pretty surprised by it.

Whiskies you always keep in your cabinet\bar.....
We are very alike....we've both got KC 12 and michters rye on our lists and I chose KC 120 proof but I considered old forester 1920 instead.

Fall Redfish Rodeo
I love these write ups, they always bring up good memories from my childhood of fishing and eating fresh seafood on the Texas coast. Quick question...in the bottle pic what is the stubby bottle with the green cork?

High proof bourbon and rye...
I've got 2 different ECBP batchs and they are different but both very good. This weekend I picked up a 1792 Full Proof and a Jack Daniels single barrel barrel proof...the 1792 is very good but the Jack is a different level. the concentration of flavor is why I like barrel proofs. For me scotch and Irish are usually better at finesse...bourbon and rye are pure power. Both have a time and place for me.

High proof bourbon and rye...
A favorite of mine and one I keep on hand

And the bourbon hunt is still going strong: last night I picked up a 1792 BIB and an old forester 1920. Need to lay off buying for a bit or my woman's gonna kick me to the couch!

Prayers and thoughts needed.
Wow man that's a tough deal, glad the surgery was successful. Hope she remembers to take the right time to heal up and rehabilitate, patience and persistence will pay off on the recovery end.

Fishing critic
I live in a small Midwest town so there thankfully isn't much of that around here, most people around me hunt and fish or at least support the rights to do it...although with the way the world is going its a matter of time until those people and\or that mindset makes its way here. Been around a few vegans and vegetarians in my life but only remember one of them being preachy. She kinda got testy with me for eating meat, after listening to her BS for far too long I pointed down at her feet and said nice leather boots dumb@#$...that was the end of the conversation.

The bourbon buying continues, today I picked up an Elijah Craig barrel proof from last year...to be specific C924. Also bought my buddy a bottle of knob Creek 12 for a house warming gift.
