Im actually having some of the bourbon right now. I prefer the rye but the bourbon is also tasty stuff. Both are a steal at under $50 a bottle.

So I asked a couple guys at work that are die hard catfisherman what they thought about going after chubs now. They both said its too early. Then I realized I have no plans Saturday and its gonna be mid to high 40s and thought I don't care I'm gonna try anyway.

Catching chubs in winter...
So I'm still a ways out from ice out, but I'm looking to scratch the open water itch. The only option around me is hitting some small creeks in hopes of chubs and maybe a sucker. If it works ill have some fun and also have some cut bait to throw in the freezer for ice out. Anybody ever target chubs in winter?

New grill..
I understand this completely..back when I was working 12s I only used a propane because it was ready fast. Now I'm on a 40hr a week Monday thru Friday schedule, plus I don't have any kids to chase around so I've got the time. the ability to have a few beers while the coals heat up is a bonus

New grill..
Yeah I think ill pick up some char baskets to aid in indirect cooking. I do have some experience cooking on this exact model grill, my buddy has had one for 5 or 6 years and I've cooked on it several times. I did pick up a Weber chimney to aid in starting the coals. As far as the long start up time, I recently went back to a Monday thru Friday 7-330 schedule so ill have time!

New grill..
Well my propane grill finally bit the dust. Got it used 4 or 5 years ago for $50 and this winter I noticed while pushing it around the base was completely rusted out. Settled on a Weber kettle premium 22". Normally around $220, found the copper colored one on Amazon for $175. Nothing fancy but I've never owned a charcoal grill so im excited.

Everybody I've suggested it to has liked it, even my girlfriend who hates whiskey said wow that's actually kinda good. I will warn you, its not peppery and spicy like a typical Rye its more subdued and sweet similar to a bourbon with just a hint of spice. I adore it. Let me know what you think.

Most Tackle
I'd guess Tom Monsoon does. I saw a video once where he said he has thousands of swim jigs.

I've looked at it several times and thought man when I've got extra coin laying around I'm picking that up. My problem is I like a sweeter rye...then I found Michters rye and for what I'm looking for it can't be beat for $45 a bottle.

I've got a bottle of that! Pretty good stuff. Tonight I'm thinking red beers with some local made super spicy bloody mix.

Headwaters guide pulls a gun on another!
I just took my CPR and first aid certification training for work at the South Dakota safety council last week. The instructor had been an EMT for 15 years around Minneapolis and also outside of Sioux Falls SD a town of about 200,000. Somehow we got on the subject of personal safety and he said I'm willing to bet 80% of you have a gun in your truck or on you now, and if not you should. We all chuckled and the other guys nodded. Bet I was the only sumbitch not packin.

Tommy Biffle isn't a little bi#$&...he doesn't need a gun. He'd just beat you to death with a flipping stick. In all seriousness this is pathetic and sad if true. I realize a guide is fishing for a living...but still its just fishing. If money is so tight that one not perfect guide trip is gonna break you maybe its time to get a regular job.

Hungry?
I've only been thru Chicago once when I was 10 or 11. We were living in Belleville Illinois at the time which is 20ish miles outside of St Louis. I will say for sure one thing I miss about living in a big city is the diversity of food options. Lived outside of Houston for years growing up and we had access to all kinds of food within 20 minutes of our house. Living in a small Midwest town we don't have many options locally. Do have a small Mexican place n town thats been here since 06...owned and operated by a husband and wife that moved her from Mexico. Very nice hard working people...always happy to see you. There normal food is good but its pretty standard American style Mexican food tacos, quesadillas, fajitas...but on weekends they will often times add some more authentic dishes...stuff they grew up eating. Menudo, pozole, ceviche and whole fried fish ( normally tilapia) hit the menu quite often.

have you ever wondered why?
That..also who knows where the bad reviewer purchased the line. If I order a new spool of trilene from bass pro and some other dude buys a 15 year old spool from a garage sale I bet our experiences would be different.

if you come across a fisherman struggling..do you help?
I've been asked for help but never really freely offer it as far as the fishing side is concerned. I've helped people lots of times when they are having boat or vehicle issues.
