Suggestions for mild maybe sweeter cigars for beginners?
  2. I feel this exact same way. Growing up outside of Houston we had options of freshwater and saltwater about the same distance away, in 6 years we fished freshwater a few times and saltwater hundreds of times. I like freshwater fishing but its really no comparison.
  3. I thought you only ate fried white bass and hushpuppies
  4. Happy belated Bday buddy...what are ya now 46? 47?
  5. I initially posted people that don't communicate...after thinking it over I also don't like lazy people or neighbors that are inconsiderate of others property....so you sir are right PEOPLE suck and I don't like em.
  6. When people complain about lack of communication yet they never communicate themselves... Especially at work. Case in point my EHS lady is the worst I've ever seen....she's always tick$%& and moaning about people not communicating be it in Email form or shift reports yet you'd be more likely to get a response email or text from a dead person than her. Its pathetic.
  7. Indeed....I've had a couple shelfers over the years and they were decent at best this is like 5 steps above for basically the same price.
  8. 90% of the time I'd say Ribeye...that said big old bone in chop is also delicious in my opinion. Your sides are good...I do however insist the meat be cooked over charcoal.
  9. Yeah the knob creek 12 is a favorite of mine and for $70 I couldn't pass it up. I've never been a big Woodford fan but I've heard the store pick double oaks can be fantastic and it definitely delivers- its very desserty, total burnt marshmallow and butterscotch bomb.
  10. Picked up a Woodford Reserve double oaked store pick yesterday that's fantastic...also snagged a backup bottle of knob creek 12 for a good price because I rarely see them and when I do they are often times $85+.
  11. Oh I will be slip bobber fishing in a lake not river, my river fishing for walleye is either a slip sinker rig with live bait or jig and plastic. As far as the bugs go I've spent alot of nights fishing growing up on the gulf coast and since then cat fishing so I know how bad they are, your right if you get a calm night it can be terribke.
  12. This is a huge bummer, RIP sir and condolences to the family.
  13. My buddy finally got back to me and said we will be using leeches...that's his preferred bait. Not sure what part of the state your in but im in the northwest corner of Iowa and do a good amount of river walleye fishing in the fall. Got a couple decent spots 5 minutes from my house.
  14. Agree with everything above. My wife doesn't get it, but she has her reading and her art. For me fishing has always been therapeutic--in fact its often the only thing that will get my mind right. Last week was pretty awful at work yet there I was yesterday morning out early standing in the water watching the sun peek out while a beaver was tending to his home and a heron was stalking down his breakfast, and suddenly things seemed right in the world. Yeah I caught fish, had I not I still had got what I came for.
  15. So my buddy wants to throw out some lighted bobbers at night for walleye....the concept is easy enough and I've got the gear to do it. That said what your preferred bait for this application? I haven't night fished for walleye in at least 15 years and back then I just threw twisters and rapalas.
  16. I went yesyerday morning for about an hour....caught a dozen largemouth on a small popper. Water temp around 80.
  17. I've been really lazy with my bass fishing this year and basically all I've thrown is a Ned rig. I've caught a few hundred fish on it since April so guess I don't really need anything else.
  18. I rarely use live bait for bass but do for panfish, walleyes and catfish. I often catch my own night crawlers , trap minnows, cast net shad and rod & reel.catch green sunfish, chubs and gold eye for bait.
  19. I agree that Jack Daniels is more than just black label old no.7. I wrote it off for years but tried some of their better offerings and was surprised with how good it is. I've got a single barrel select and a single barrel select rye both store picks and both are very good....like 7 or 7.5 out of 10. I also have a single barrel barrel proof rye that's around 130 proof and its fantastic. Like it as much as my Michters barrel strength rye and it was half the price. Never tried gentleman jack but I've heard its good for what it is....have a buddy that hates no7 that said the gentleman is actually kinda good. thanks for the info, I've always been interested in sake but have never really looked into it
  20. I've had it at sushi restaurants a few times didn't love it didn't hate it. I'd like to try it again but have no idea what's good and what isnt.
  21. My Lake: Small watershed that is run as a camping and recreation area by the county parks department. 90 acres is all but it is pretty diverse in that there are two actual bodies of water connected by a small channel...one is shallow and off color with lots of downed trees and brush the other is "deeper" and has clearer water color. This watershed borders a river that often times floods into it which is obviously problematic but can also "stock" the pond with several species. Fish species include but are not limited to largemouth bass, small mouth bass, northern pike, white bass, walleye, channel catfish, bluegill, green sunfish, drum, bullhead, white and black crappie, and several carp species. Rating: 3 out of 5 I'd like to rate it higher but I have to be honest with myself...its not a bad fishery but its not great. The negatives come from the fact that it floods which ruins the fishing for at least a year typically as it muddies the water and also displaces fish. Another factor is this is run as a county park so even though the county does a fine job there is also garbage laying around often and also a fair amount of drunken jacka$$ery from time to time. The positives are in the diversity of fish species and the general quality of fish. Right now we are recovering from floods over the past several years so the laregmouth size is a bit lacking but the numbers are good. That said I've got dozens of bass over 5 over the years, several 6s a couple 7s including one just a few years back and my PB of 8lb 12oz. Also the crappie and bluegill numbers and size have made a strong comeback which is great to see. As for diversity I've fished it 3 times in the past week and caught largemouth \smallmouth\white bass, drum, bullheads, channel catfish and bluegills.
  22. My favorite freshwater fish
  23. Little olive oil , charred on the grill then sliced off the cob in a bowl with butter, salt, pepper and a little parmesan cheese. Or grilled , sliced off the cob and in a relish with diced sweet onion, diced jalapeno, crumbled bacon, avocado, olive oil and fresh lime juice---excellent on its own or as a condiment on grilled chicken or steak tacos.
  24. If your not enjoying it or wishing you were doing something more "productive" than yes it is a waste of your time. For me fishing has always been my stress relief and I absolutely love it. Other things have come and gone for me Video games, sports, card collecting...I've never lost my love for fishing. My grandfather just passed away a few weeks ago and I remember him telling me my entire life nobody ends up on their death bed wishing hey had fished less.
  25. Anymore my trips are max 3-4 hours so I usually eat before or after....maybe bring a bottle of water or Gatorade in the truck. When I do ice out pan fish in the spring with my dad we often do a mid day break and hit a Mexican buffet place where he lives.
