  1. Tom, having a bit of trouble understanding this. If I cast with the wind, it will come back against the wind. If bass are facing the wind, the bait will come back in the same direction they are facing, that is, it could come from behind them. If instead I cast against the wind, it comes with the wind, which they are facing, such that the bass sees the lure coming.
  2. This kinda goes for all baits when it’s super windy. Cast into or with the wind. Never perpendicular. You can also try and keep the bow in your line lower. If you want to work a specific spot, anchor. If not, casting with the wind and letting yourself drift toward your bait can work if you are retrieving fast enough. I don’t like to do the opposite. I deal with wind all the time in my kayak. This is what works for me. Heavy wind with no anchor doesn’t get rid of bottom contact baits for me either. One day I found that punching heavy jigs was good in the wind. I would cast a little ways in the direction of the wind but not much and let myself drift towards my bait perpendicular to my cast. Hope this makes sense.
  3. Oh that is awesome. Talk about a true flat sided crankbait... lol That's a mighty cool jig. Wow. I think you put the bait monkey on A-Jay again as well as several others with that pic.
  4. Here’s what I think. A square bill and chatterbait as used as examples here are two very different lures with different actions and I think one bass in one area could have a preference for one or the other based on what it sees. However, I don’t think that all the bass in the lake on one day magically want squarebills and not chatterbaits for instance. So many things add up to make a bass strike. Conditions of the day (wind, water temp, water clarity), type of cover, the color of the lure, its running depth, its size. Only a bass knows what combination of these things makes a bass bite but your cast and how you work the lure influence how that bass will react to your lure so much. You might not catch a bass on one laydown with a chatterbait, cruise on the the next one and catch em, and then think “oh, they’re biting chatterbaits.” But you might not have noticed how your presentation changed, or maybe there simply wasn’t a bass at that first laydown! All this said…. If a lure is working, you know that something is right, and you might want to stay with that lure. That’s up to you. edit: there’s also the idea that some lures work better than ohers depending on depth and type of cover. Again whether this is true is up to you and your experience. edit #2: you might also find that you like to fish certain areas and certain types of cover depending on where you confidence lies. A square bill fisherman could be working one area vastly different from another one you are working with a chatterbait and both of y’all can end up with the same limit. this is a hard topic to cover because… as the title says… we are talking about the mind of a bass and I am thinking with the mind of a human…. I think
  5. If I've learned anything from this thread and experiencing the feel of several reels, it's that where possible, I would like to hold the rod and reel in my hand before purchasing. I like iRods though and no choice but to order those. I just got lucky and struck gold with my REVO Winch paired with iRod's stone cold swim and vibrating jig rod. That combo is pure gold to me.
  6. I learned something new today. Dunno if it will help me, but at least it might help to keep confusions between these words in my writing from….. reoccurring
  7. Hey ya'll, This is scheduled for up in NY. Been reading about a possible heat wave to hit the states this December. Down in NC we are scheduled to get another day in the 70s. I see this as an absolute win. Could be some good fishing weather coming up ya'll!
  8. What does your hoodie on the top pic say? Is that bass geek?
  9. Ah ha. shocked. What's an electrician's favorite flavor of ice cream? Shock-A-Lot. Thanks I'll be here all night.
  10. Nope I think this is perfect. Excellent empirical data thank you ?
  11. The military will always take care of you. It might not be everything you want, but it will be enough and you can meet some amazing people along the way. You can also experience some of the highest job satisfaction. OP, there are a couple of options to cut down on the cost of college through military service including ROTC scholarships and the service academies. Both great options if you can do either and are interested. But you gotta be interested. Anyways though, college is expensive and I agree totally with posts previously here about college education being vastly overrated. Anyhow, don’t waste it.
  12. I’ve got a little something something
  13. Hey ya'll, So some fishermen called Matt Allen and Tim Little (maybe you've heard of them?) argue that it is imperative to use both ewg's and upgraded split rings on lipless to keep big fish hooked. Now I am a skeptical creature and do not immediately believe something I hear on the internet so I'd rather ask ya'll so I can get another internet response to blindly believe. But it's bassresource so that's okay. Kind of several questions. Are ewg's necessary or do they offer a distinct advantage over round bend trebles on lipless? Do most lipless come with split rings at risk of failure under the stress of a big fish? How can I tell if a bait comes with quality split rings? Any reason to use heavier gauge hooks on lipless? Thanks as always and I look forward to reading your responses.
  14. No indeed! LOL. If I was Matt Robertson using the tomato stick would be cool.
  15. My first casting rod was an ugly stick and I sure as heck didn’t stay with that, lol. But they get the job done!
  16. Okay hear me out guys….
  17. Some good ideas in here thanks yall
  18. Welcome! Your questions of what to throw could be a good topic for the "Fishing Tackle" forum.
  19. Tiny hand guy here. Sounds like I’m staying away from shimano. Comfort of reels is a big factor for me. For some reason a tatula 100 I own is far less comfortable than a REVO winch. Doesn’t really make sense to me but the winch is very ergonomic.
