  1. Hey ya’ll, Another spinnerbait thread from me. Big surprise. Hopefully y’all enjoy these. Seems spinnerbaits have stayed steady in conversation on the tackle side of things here this fall. My question is about spinnerbait blade sizing. Very simply, do you believe that bigger blades have a greater appeal to bigger fish? Does this depend on seasonal patterns? Or is this just hooey and the fish will bite a spinnerbait if it’s presented right? What about the considerations of bait size? One of the first things I read on spinnerbaits was actually Bill Murphy’s “A Case For Spinnerbaits” section in his book. I love that section and IMO it is indicative of Murphy’s regard for spinnerbaits, even as a trophy bass angler. Anyways, Murphy claims that NORMALLY, he believes smaller blades appeal more to bigger fish. Some of the spinnerbaits he provides photos of as his favorites are worlds apart from the popular models of spinnerbaits today and are very interesting. I seem to recall him saying that he likes around a #3 and a #4 blade size for a single spin. These are relatively small blades today! now, I would be remiss if I didn’t also bring up into the discussion that Murphy was talking about trophy FLORIDA-strain largemouth on clear Cali reservoirs. Most of us fish for Northern-strain largemouth or smallmouth, and, as we know, the behaviors of the fish are different. I certainly have lots to say about this, but I want to know what the members of BR think.
  2. Oh gosh! I mean, I don't just sniff them. I meant that it's my breakfast too! Skeeter's "Taste the Bait." I like to understand what I am feeding the fish.
  3. I would like gold or chartreuse blades paired up with that skirt color. The arm looks longer so I am partial to two blades for that. Very pretty lure, nicely done sir
  4. Gosh, so much to consider. Instead of directing suggesting rods and reels to buy, I will say that with whatever baitcaster and accompanying rod you choose, you may find it easier to start learning to use a baitcaster with a little thicker monofilament. I run 15lb trilene big game on the two rods I use most often and it handles very well. In terms of the budget/investment decision, I think there's arguments for both sides. I believe a medium heavy, 7', fast action baitcaster with a reel in the 6:x speed range can be used for a very wide range of techniques.
  5. Stanley vibrawedge fit the bill of “that one bait” I just hadn’t tried but had been looking at for a really long time. I just got one of them a couple hours ago along with other spinnerbaits I’ll be expecting to need in the muddy, cold water I’m planning on fishing this winter break. The vibrawedge I think I will throw starting in the post spawn or so.
  6. Anyone else just sniff rage tail plastics in lieu of the morning cup of coffee? No? Just me? Okay.
  7. It was a wonderful dinktober halloween. The treats were plentiful and bite-sized and required few tricks to obtain. I collected 15 of them, brandishing a Nichols Pulsator single colorado and zorro short arm. First day of the year I spent a significant amount of time slow rolling spinnerbaits on the bottom (the pulsator was for this). I expect to be doing more and more of this as it gets colder. The five fish shown can be considered my 'limit' lol.
  8. So in college I’m a little more independent from parents obviously but I’ve found the trick to solving this if my tackle spending habits ever get brought up: remind her that the money could have been spent on alcohol or drugs ??. Not that I care how people spend their money or that I disapprove of these things, but this technique is certified to at least win you some favor with your mom.
  9. Unseasonably nice weather today :). Rainy in the morning but other than that very comfortable. Just a nice day to be out there.
  10. On the board this weekend with four fish, two decent ones. All on a zorro short arm aggravator. Had to adjust from the booyah double Indiana I had been throwing the past several weekends. The bite was tough though! I spent a lot of hours out there. But hey, the water's still liquid so it's good fishing! Tight lines ya'll! I'm headed back out tomorrow to a deeper pond
  11. Who’s fishing this weekend? I’ve officially checked out mentally this week and just going through the motions till fishing Saturday ?
  12. How do ya’ll know this stuff ?
  13. Well, I’ll shoot you a PM now but I’ll say publicly on this thread that Im humbled to receive this offer seriously; I just can’t make it work in the short term but that you seem like such a generous man and thanks very much for the offer
  14. Thanks brother. Really appreciate the feedback
  15. I mean if you’re offering….
  16. Spinnerbait fisherman when they realize @TnRiver46could discover that no one actually ever catches fish on spinnerbaits:
  17. I think if you’re catching 5lb smallies on jig head worms, you’re doin pretty good and ain’t gotta worry about spinnerbaits ?.
  18. So long as I can tear all the compartments out and make enough room for spinnerbaits, as many spinnerbaits as I can fit. Spinnerbait box? Thats it
  19. Thanks. I was asking mostly for myself. I think OP could do quite well following your suggestions for brown bass
  20. Way to go man. Very nice one
  21. I was waiting for that ?. Okay but A-Jay, what is your opinion? Is burning a spinnerbait great for largemouth? Or is this exclusively a smallmouth deal?
  22. I am used to the notion of needing to listen to @Catt. It's why the stanley wedge is on my wishlist and why as stubborn as I am about not wanting to wake a spinnerbait because I think it's still too fast, I may considering doing it sometime. But my guts also say to stick to reeling spinnerbaits slow but still horizontal to the bottom.... when fishing for largemouth. This has not proven true for me though. Crawling buzzbaits might work as the water cools but when the water was warmer, a moderate speed was best. I think it's because the buzzbait was louder and more obnoxious.
  23. Rip your lure out of the water to let it soar in the air for a bit. Maybe they’ll jump up and grab it
