  1. Winds are getting a little dangerous so I am getting off the water sooner than I’d like, but caught one bass @6.67lbs (highest reading) on a spinnerbait in the dark. This is the biggest I’ve caught on Stillhouse so far. I had the spinnerbait hookset of the century. I could hardly get the hook out of the roof of her mouth. Fantastic fighting fish.
  2. Let’s expand on @GoneFishingLTN’s rock thread and talk tackle. Do y’all have baits you prefer to use around rock? I rank crankbaits and jigs at the top but I am very partial to the jig
  3. If you can handle $149.99 (LOL), iRod Genesis III 704C is heckuva jig rod
  4. Why is it supposed to be 106 Heat Index Sunday?????? I thought we were done!!!! Okay folks I’m thinking Night Ops
  5. If you include yeet in your books that you write, your sales will increase tenfold
  6. Congrats on the new truck soon! I still am rocking the 4 door 4wd Ford Ranger Lariat, 74k miles and change. Has been good to me so far
  7. Great points here. I, too, have found that a subsurface running lure like a spinnerbait is overall more consistent than a buzzbait. But, depending on several factors, I overall give the nod to the buzzbait as the better choice for chasing better quality fish. That’s really tough to say because a spinnerbait catches quality too, but certain times of the year and under certain conditions I think the buzzbait is the better choice
  8. I have not been making any kind of change recently just because the calendar reads September. I tossed jigs in 30ft last time out even though YouTube is telling me to fish shallow with small lures ??‍♂️. I don’t really think I’ll be switching things up for the last two weeks I’ll be here in TX before I go to GA for a month. Not sure how much fishing I’ll be doing in GA. So, I did not wind up committing to throwing the buzzbait in the fall. I also just have the feeling that it is an inappropriate lure for the main lake I fish. It was a nice thought, and I do like buzzbaits
  9. Throw it in the middle of the spawn over a spawning flat, I guess? I don’t know, the late @Deleted account told me to. He was kind of right. Caught 2 decent and lost a humungo one… just didn’t hook it good (fish story and I’m sticking to it)
  10. @ol'crickety nice, good luck Just not much happening here. I poked around on some ledges last night looking around and caught a couple dinks out really deep but didn’t care to share. One was in 30ft though so that was cool. Think that’s my deepest bass ever
  11. It really doesn’t matter. It’s just a lake. If @A-Jay wants to keep it secret, cool. None of us are any worse off
  12. Yes, I have the blades still
  13. @813basstard yeah I’ve considered looking for some more straight shanks. I like hook #1 pretty good though
  14. The first hook is an offset round bend worm hook. The second hook is an offset EWG worm hook. EWG hooks are designed for thick baits where other hook options, such as the offset round bend, do not have enough gap to accomodate the thicker plastic + leave enough room for the hook to penetrate the fish’s mouth. As a general rule of thumb, you want the hook gap to be about twice the thickness of the plastic you are using. In general, the offset round bend worm hook, when it is practical to use, is going to have a higher hookup ratio. Why is this? The hook point is actually offset from the line tie, whereas on the EWG hook (most models), the hook point is in line with the line tie. Having the hook point offset from the line tie is preferable because when you pull the hook out from inside a fish’s mouth, the hook point has a small distance from above the line tie that it can hook a fish better while the line tie is coming out of the fish’s mouth as you set hook. There is more room for the hook to penetrate.
  15. Fall in central Missouri was GORGEOUS
  16. Yeah, same. Lower temps and fewer people on water
  17. Nah anytime is good. I would say ideal is wind blowing into a rock shoreline. Sky conditions I don’t care. Isolated rock out deep, I don’t care
  18. Big game is off by 50% on their ratings. 12lb is 18lb test in strength and diameter. 15lb is 22lb test in strength and diameter. You get the idea I still really like big game. It’s just that you have to be aware that you are using much heavier line than advertised
  19. Line diameter matters more IME
  20. Well, I’ve said it enough but I think the FG is just the king of connection knots. I tie it on and off the water and a good portion of the time, it will outlast whatever knot I tie to the lure or hook. Exceptions are a really really good palomar or a double improved clinch knot, which hardly ever breaks. It’s just messy. The palomar is a fantastic knot for all lines but it is finicky. Easy to mess up and sorta hard to master with all lure categories. It’s deceptive, because it looks so simple
  21. I may hunt but I don’t expressly plan on it, unless it is at home. My Dad told me there are 2-3 potential shooters right now where the family hunts but that the deer are very nocturnal currently. Have been tough to find in a hunting session. He has photos of a new very large buck that arrived recently. That’s the one he and Mom hope to shoot this season.
  22. @Tackleholic I had a trickster. Used it a little with no success until I bent it beyond repair after I hit something on the cast. I never bought another one, but I liked the way it swam.
