Improving Reels
Save your money and have it done by a pro. I know I will not hear the end of this that it isn't rocket sience, and you really need to learn how. But for what you will spend one time around to have it done right. Will more than make up for any cost. I personally have had reels come to me after some one who thought it wasn't rocket sience got into doing it from info off of the forums. Wound up having to replace the spool, and pinion gear, in a Shimano. Aound 50$ for the spool and another 5-10$ for the pinion gear. So take this old 28yr vetran service tech's advise, save your dimes and have it done right the first time.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!

Shimano
When I was checking out the free spool I noticed that it did not a have long sustained spin. My PQ spun longer fresh out of the box then the Chronarch did. Compairing a NITB reel against a reel that has been fished is just stupid! Hell the reel hasn't even been setup to cast. As stated sustained rotation doesn't mean much, IMPO especially in the tackle shop... Tight Lines All!

Super Tune A Revo Sx?
Let me put it this way.. When you have a reel truly supertuned. You will need to re-learn how to use it..... Smoother easier short cast, good distance gained on long cast. More responce to castcontrol, spool brake, & drag settings... Tight Lines!

Specialty Rods For General Purpose
I build custom systems on it all the time. MBC70MHF = Mojo Bass Casting 7' Med Hvy/Fast Tip Heck I use this blank for T-rigging worms/jigs, not for spinner baits. I'd build on a med/fast for spinnerbaits... Good Luck Tight Lines!

Walking The Dog... Better With Baitcaster Or Spinning Reel?
When i'm using poprs, chug bugs, zulus, etc. either can be used, but I prefere a Bait Casting reel because of the higher GR's that are availible. When the explosion happens and I feel the weight to set hook, I want the line coming to me faster than I can get with a Sinning system.. Tight Lines!

Lew's Tourney Pro Problems Again... :(
NO YOU DON't! Are you setting the drop rate (free spool) before you set the block/mags, if you are your ass backwards. Turn the brakes/mags off, then set your drop rate. This is old school....... . Then set your blocks, last your fine tuning the cast with the mags... You also need to check the balance of your system. Line rating, lure rating, all within the rods ratings Now if you think you know it all after 2+ yrs, then I guess what I know after 30 yrs (I get some of my best BLs when I think I know it all). I love novice anglers that cannot get the hang of a bait caster and ALWAYS blame the reel for their lack of practice or out of balance rod/reel systems.. Good luck to you & tight lines! OH practice, practice, practice, every day!

Dilemma On Used Rod Purchase/damage
I would have to agree with RW and Mike here. BUT..... IMPO If I paid $100 for a used rod and received it in less than fishable shape I would be ticked, and letting were ever I purchased it from know just how ticked... Good Luck & Tight Lines!

Consider Me A Blank Slate. Let's Build An Arsenal!
IMPO....... I would use the information you can gleen from the other memebers of your club. After all its their tourney schedual/lakes that you are fishing. Not a one of the guys here has taken that fact into consideration in their recomendations. You joined to learn about lakes, techniques, rod/reel systems, baits, then angling frienships. They will know what you need more than any forum. Just an honest .02¢

Question For Rod Builders!
Besides visiting the link ghoti replied with. I would suggest owning and reading the book written/produced by the owner of that site.... http://www.barnesandnoble.com/listing/2689444387908?r=1&cm_mmca2=pla&cm_mmc=GooglePLA-_-Book_5To14-_-Q000000633-_-2689444387908 Good Luck

Revo Issue
Sure you do Mike.... You know it is Abu speek for d**n I don't know either.... Willing to bet it was heavy drag setup, low stretch lines, and weak pinion yoke springs. The pinion will take just so much back pressure on hookset and it jumps the engagement pin. An old techs .02¢ Tight Lines!!

Weird Issue With Both Chronarch/crucial Combos
It is a rod issue, not the reels.... The reel seat on the rod is to deep and cause's the rod assembly that the side plate rotates on to bind in the seat, (look at it mounted without the shimming).................

How And Where Tennessee Handle Placement
You place the reel on the grip where the rod/reel will feel comfortable in your hands.. If the rod doesn't have a pair of metal slip rings, that slide up over the ends of the reel foot. You will tape the reel to the grip in the location you feel comfortable with... Or you can use plastic cable ties. The rings are better but all will work....

Shimano Saros 3000F Spooling Problem
You need to find the 3 (RD3455 spool washers), disks that came with the reel... Then remove all 3 from in front of the spool support/clicker (RD1427). Start your spooling of the line and watch if the line loads to the front of the spool add 1 disk.. Repeat the spooling and if the line is still loading to the front, add a 2nd disk. Repeat until the line lays evenly onto the spool. If you don't have the 3 disks already in place, and, you cannot locat them in the box contact Shimano and have them ship yopu 3 of the disk part numbered above.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!

Insert Popped Out Of Eye, Epoxy It Back In?
On a good builders bench... To remove the old guide frame 10min. To prepair the site for the new guide 20min. To place and wrap the new guide 10min. To apply finish/level to the new wrap 20min. To cure the finish 24hrs...... In my shop clients waited 2days before they picked up their rods and could use them.... Tight Lines!

Insert Popped Out Of Eye, Epoxy It Back In?
I have 15 yrs custom rod building..... Yes you will have to replace it sooner or later, it will pop out again. The shock rings are pressed in while the guide frame is heated. The frame has been tweeked just enough for the original setting to have failed, and your epoxy isn't a permanent fix... Good Luck & Tight Lines
