  1. First you have to remove the old guides.. Then you have to clean/prep the old guide areas.. Next you need your set of guides.. Then you need to prep (grind to a gradual taper) the foot of each guide to prepare it to received the wrapping thread.. Then you tack/tape the guides in the proper order/position to the rod blank. Now you wrap each guide with the proper wrapping thread (Gudebrod Nylon & NCP® Rod Building Threads) Next you will need to make a choice as to whether or not you want to preserve the color of your threads. If you chose to then you will need to coat your threads with a "Color Preserver" or CP. This will be applied to the thread and allowed to dry for about 24hrs. Then the threads are ready for the finish epoxy. If you decide to not use a CP then you will just apply the finish epoxy and let the threads go translucent. The final step is the finish, it is applied according to the manufacturers directions and allowed to cure. But either way the rod will not be flexed for about 24 hrs to let the finish fully cure... Hope this helps.... Just a rod builders .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

  7. Both are superior reels. ... I would go back to SW with the rod I intend on using the reel with, and, ask if you can mount the reels your interested in on the rod. That way you get to feel the way they are going to feel (weight & balance) in your hand. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  8. Here is a little reading material on the subject.. Balancing Your Fishing Rods Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  9. When the burners came out it was mainly used buy jig, and t-rig anglers to turn the fish's head quickly and get the fish out of the weeds, grass mats, stumps faster, and, also for tourney anglers to get an empty jig/lure back to the boat faster to cover more water...... Tight Lines!!!!
  10. Most all of the specs and setups on a BC reel are with a full spool of line. You are not going to throw lighter baits just because of the line capacity being less on the spool. Replace (upgrade) or super clean the (existing) spool bearings and you should be able to throw lighter baits more easily.. Tight Lines!!!!
  11. Oh yea it's serious.... The W.H.O. (World Health Organization) has raised the pandemic level to 5.... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090429/ap_on_he_me/med_swine_flu Stay well......
  12. Yup and from what I have learned that is for 1yr and the original registered owner... Currently my turn around time is currently 3-7 days depending on if I have to order a major part that I might not carry. Pure Fishing actually gets me parts faster than they would anyone else that isn't a service center.... Send it on, probably just a part that was installed wrong... Tight Lines!!!!
  13. Thanks! Burley Garvin...MP SirSnookalot We truly appreciate YOUR support.... :-? AH's
  14. You might try doing a google search for that rod, or contact.. Earl's Antique Fishing Tackle http://fishingcollectables.com/ And query him for some info on the rod, he has a lot of Wonderod's listed... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  15. Hey Dave, I think I'm going to go with the IMX. 8-) .....
  16. cigarleaf, Now that I have your 50MG on my bench, what rod did you pair it up with???? The wrong answer and I keep the reel.... Tight Lines All!!!
  17. Nope not really, the guys it will hurt are the ones here (in my area) that are members of the Guild, those builders were Loomis pushers for sure, they would never consider any other blank either. My tourney anglers weren't interested in the name of a blank, as much as a rod that was built to their specs, that would hold up to abusive tourney fishing, and fit the cash stash in the wallet... But that was back when I was building, now I build mostly for me when I need it, get to busy with reels to push rods Tight Lines!!!!
  18. If your limited on storage space for the rod while traveling or boating then I would recommend a Telescopic (breaks down into itself) rods. Don't know much about your linked choices, but I don't like the power hump on grips... My thoughts... If storage isn't a problem then I would recommend a 1pc. rod. a dedicated flippin rod in the following: 7'6" to 7' 10" length with a Med Heavy to Heavy power, and, Mod Fast tip action, and Alconite guides/tip (for the braid)... Just my .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  19. This has only been coming now for a couple of years, I first heard about it from my blank distributor (Bingham Ent.) in late 07... ...lol this only stands to help your rod business. Believe me flechero, it is no big deal.. and will not hurt or help my "rod" business one bit, or, IMPO the custom rod industry at all..The same way when All Star quit building blanks for the custom rod industry.... The only blank manufacturer that was really missed was Shikäri (out of Kelly OK), when Loomis' brother and friends bought the company and then couldn't build the blanks the same way the original company did, lost their share of the rod building market and the whole thing went under.. There are more and better blank manufacturers out there, this will not hurt anyone's business... Tight Lines All!!!

flechero, is right. The Hardloy guides became the industry standard (for super hard, smooth, shock rings) back in the middle 90's when the first Kevlar lines came out. The Alconite came about a little later as the new standard for super hard, super light, shock ring material. Won't be long and Hardloy will be discontinued and Alconite will be the bottom end for the new concepts in the future.. flechero, you mean you don't have the baby backing that GMC down and putting you in on the weekends yet.... Tight Wraps....
  21. No BIG Deal! I never received a first quality blank from them anyway, always had a dogleg in them.. It will only help St.Croix®, and Batson®........
  22. dick, That's great..... But in my testing and 15 years of wrapping them, there is no evidence of increased or decrease in the casting abilities of any spiraled rods (doesn't matter which style is laid out). The whole thing behind spiraling a rod is to stabilize BC rods nothing more.... Tight Wraps & Tight Lines!!!!
  23. Sorry I don't work Pflueger (they are proprietary). You would need to contact them directly or visit their website and look for one of their satellite service centers close to you.. If your talking the reels I do service, then check out the signature line and visit the advertisers page for the link up to the info. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  24. The first spiral was in 1902, then closeted until the 70's when Richard Roberts (Kansas City) started them back up and the term Roberts Wrap, Acid Wrap on the west cost, and Spiral Wrap was coined. The style you described, is one more style the O'Quinn style of a gradual rotation of the line (with multiple guides) to the underside or 180° mark much like spinning rods (used mostly on heavy salt rods. Now days we build what is called a simple spiral that uses the 1st or stripper guide lined up and centered with the reel face, and the next guide is called a bumper, this guide is used to keep the line off of the blank when casting and fighting, and, takes the line immediately to the bottom or 180° mark. The whole process is to make heavy duty rods that can use heavy line, large lures, and have the stability of a spinning rod. Would never consider fishing anything but a spiral wrap... Tight Lines!!!!
  25. Has nothing to do with the price of the reel.Yea, you have an engagement pin on the spool shaft.. This pin engages the pinion gear in the 4 slots at the base of the gear. Those slots have gotten rounded out and the pinion yoke springs probably don't have enough downward pressure to keep the pinion gear engaged on that pin. The pinion gear, if in a reel that I service, would be replaced and the pinion yoke springs would also... The fact that it has happened on 3 different occasions, tells me you should do it now and don't use the reel until you do. It will only get worse.. Contact Pflueger, or check their website for their satellite service centers close to you... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
