reel oils
If they used Hot Sauce you would know for sure, parts would have a red stain on them. Either way before adding the oil you use you need to deep clean the reel first. Hot Sauce is a poly based oil.Good Luck & Tight Lines!! s

Quantum DS300CX reel schematic?
Because that reel is a signature series reel for BPS (Bill Dance) and not really in the Quantum line up, I would contact Outdoor World Rod & Reel Repair for info on it.... http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPage?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&appID=40&option=2 Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!

if not comfortable to do your own reel repair ?
Thanks for the kind words guys. Here is what I would do if the reels were mine... First off register the warranty on the reels! The reels manual shows the basic oil points for the reels, fish them as hard as I can for a full year/season. If any issues evolve in the first full year/season I would send them in for warranty work. Outside of the warranty period I would have them professionally serviced, tuned up, upgraded if available. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

which reel would you pick?
The Chronarch D, I have serviced Alpha Itö's and Daiwa® JDM does make some fine reels.. I would still go for the Shimano® because of its US support right out of the box, were as the Itö doesn't have the Daiwa® US Support right out of the box... Just my .02¢ Tight Lines! any way you go.....

Magforce Z problems
I agree with Micro. I'll bet the cast control on all of the reels having problems with that braking system, have the cast control turned loose enough to hear a ticking sound when in free spool and trying to move the spool laterally. Sounds like guessing at the proper setups. The brakes and the cast control setting work together, but the cast control setting is probably the most important to start with... I have never had a problem setting up any of the mag breaking system's on any of the brands I service.. Tight Lines All!!!

Spinning reel bail problem?
TommyBass, Yup you can. But make sure you have the reels schematic in front of you....Then I would be looking at the bail spring side/area of the rotor. Probably the main bail spring getting weaker... Good Luck....

Over the internet you takes your chances, know the seller well... Viewing in person....Off the top of my head... Cosmetics, the blank is it in good shape, straight no warp, any bad nicks, missing any thread coating around the guides. Guides are they straight, no bent frames, any nicks in the shock rings, again the threads and coatings Cork is it dirty, is the pit filler falling out. EVA is it still in good shape.... Quantum hot sauce
Quantum® Hot Sauce was created for the Hybrid PT bearings in their reels. The bearings have a Poly film covering the balls in the race and the Hot Sauce is Poly based and keeps it there. There are tons of really good reel oils on the market, and any one of them is better for your reels (any none Quantum PT reel) than Hot Sauce in them. Even the old Zebco® reel oil is better than Hot Sauce in a none PT reel.... Just my .02¢ Tight Lines & Smooth Reels.....

New Spinning Reel Question
But the Graphite frame isn't. If the reel is going to be submerged that much, then be prepared to service it, multiple times over the season....

backlash as soon as i hit the button
reds_21, No big deal, I do it all the time when I get into a hurry. Has absolutely NOTHING to do with the line brand or makeup. Just tighten the cast control cap down so the spool doesn't free spool (lose spin) when you hit the thumbar. This should give you enough tension to get the line threaded through your guides (if not tighten a little more). Once you get the rod lined out then goto the article on setting up the system for use and you will be casting in no time at all. Just a simple fix and my .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines Soon!!!!

Rod Making?
Depending on what your time is worth to you, making your own can save some, but mostly it is "I get the rod I want" (not what the factory thinks I want)... There is a learning curve...Start by reading the sticky above...."Newbies with rod building questions".Watch out though it is addicting...
