  6. Sounds like the reel has a slight bind to it (older un serviced reel). That doesn't sound like butter smooth to me...Butter smooth is when you crank the reel and it feels like you can't crank fast enough to keep up with it. Tight Lines!!!
  7. That is great and I have found A typical for home town tackle shops and owners.... Tight Lines!!

  9. Team Daiwa X 103HSDL the HSDL is the left hand version of the Team Daiwa X 103HSDF, from 7 years ago.... Line Capacity: 12/120; 14/100 Gear Ratio: 6.3:1 Weight: 9.3 (oz) Bearings: 6BB,1RB Aluminum frame, Aluminum perforated spool, Titanium Nitride line guide, Magforce V, brass drive gear Old MSRP: $209.95 Recent new testing's have been done on the reels drags and they only produce 6.3lbs of maximum drag, at max settings... I have serviced about a half dozen of these reels in 02, didn't like the fact that the spool could separate in the middle, had a couple of them do it when the client had the reels lined on a power machine.. Just my .02¢ Tight Lines!!!
  10. I was about to ask the same question. Did they just swap a returned reel for yours. There would have been a way to tell for sure. I caught a couple of the major mfg's doing just that back in the late 90's. I had a couple of different reels come in and we couldn't service them, sent them off with our service markers internally and when we got the reel's back they didn't have our service markers in them, (yes Quantum was one of them).. The reason for the slick heavy petroleum feel/smell on the outside is probably because of the over oiling of the reel internally, and the seeping of Hot Sauce to the outside.. This was the only way they could keep the red dye from staining the outside of the reel. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

  12. benlee1, Whatever you do "DO NOT" put anything in the reel (especially Hot Sauce). Pick up your phone tomorrow and call a warranty center and get the info on having it serviced under warranty.. Again DON'T DO ANYTHING to the reel..... **Pure Fishing Factory Reel Service * 1900 18th St Spirit Lake, IA 51360 (800) 228-4272 A list of warranty centers in your area... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  13. Great combo.... Like I have always said it isn't the reel that is important "it's the rod" Tight Lines All!!!
  14. The rods will no be an easy fix, lot of cutting and making sure you don't scratch or nick the blank...Personally I would contact the manufacturers and find out how much to repair, or if they are warranted then go that route. If not then try and find a local builder to do the jobs, it could cost you more if you make the mistakes and cause injury to the rod blanks. You must have a few nest close by...As for the mice try a sudden death mouse bait trays from "Hot Shots"......Just open a corner and lay it out they eat the bait and actually take it back to the nest, they die and the nest dies.. As far as keeping them out of the boat, if it is covered take a plastic bowl and fill it with moth balls and place it down on the floor and re-cover the boat, kept the mice and squirrels out of my Nitro. They can't stand the smell of the moth balls... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  15. tradequities, How long did they (Quantum) have the reel. That's why they are listed last on the reels I service in my tag line. Not only lousy CS when reels are sent in, but lousy CS when I call for parts.... Like the others, I will be real interested to hear how the reel is in a fishing situation... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!

  19. c17Lat, Sounds to me like the center mag ring has broken lose, and, when you turn the dial to make the adjustments that ring is slipping and causing a constant zero setting. YOU don't!If the reel is still under warranty then send it in and have the factory repair/replace it. If no warranty then send it to me.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  20. Ryobi stopped making reels (thank goodness) in the mid 90's, no parts available any longer that I know of... Tight Lines!!!
  21. The guide has to be replaced, if the rod is still under warranty send it in or take it back..... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
