Is this a bass with abnormal fins, or something else?
I think that’s called a mullet bass. Scientific name: Billyraysus Cyridacea ?

Got to hit the lake on Friday. Mild temps, and low humidity. It was a great day. We lost count of exactly how many largemouth we caught, but it was over 30. We also hit a school of white bass, and had fun catching 10-12 of those in a matter of minutes. We caught the largemouth on Ned rigs (only red worked), Yum Dingers (only watermelon worked), lipless (see pic below), but our lure of the day was the trick worm. The color didn't seem to matter with the trick worms. Green pumpkin, brown, white, chartreuse, didn't matter. They hit every color we threw when we found the right spot. It was incredibly fun. We didn't catch anything big, but as a pond fisherman who's trying to learn how to fish in bigger water it felt pretty good to pick the right spots, and unlock the bite patterns as they changed throughout the day. I attribute a lot of our success to what I've read since I joined this site about a year ago, and to the things I've learned from fishing with @roadwarrior. So thanks to all of you who share your wealth of knowledge on BassResource. Y'all are awesome. You helped me and my friend put 40+ fish in the boat in one day. It's the most bass I've caught in a single day in a long time...maybe ever. We didn't get many picture worthy fish, but I took one picture I wanted to share. This poor little guy got snagged as I was fishing around a bait ball. This is what we're competing against. I thought it was interesting to see how the real deal looks in comparison to some of the lures we use.

Question for those of you that use the ones with the long tails like the war eagles... Do you trim the skirt, or leave the longer tails? Do you use a trailer?

- Spotting Ponds, Finding Fish
Sounds logical to me. I may have to try that cracker trick. Keep on looking and you’ll find them. Good luck!- Service Life Of Soft Plastics....????
I recently found some worms that had been hidden away in an old tackle box since the 1990’s. They were in a Plano type box, unsealed for over 20 years. I used them, and caught fish. I expect that they would’ve outlasted me if I hadn’t found them and used them up.- Spotting Ponds, Finding Fish
It sounds like you’re doing what you can. I almost always see fish that I spooked when I’m walking around a pond. If you’re not seeing any forage, not seeing any fish speeding away, and not catching anything in multiple trips to the same pond it might be time to look for another pond. You could always try that one again when the season changes. What lures are you trying?- Bank fisherman question
I get to pond fish more than I do in a boat. Some days I just want to go to the pond and catch fish. On those days I use the trusty lures that always seem to catch fish there. They work more often than not. Other days I go to the pond to experiment with lures I’ve never used. Sometimes my experiments catch fish, and sometimes they don’t. I consider it successful if I learned something…even if I didn’t catch fish.- Sometimes You Gotta Laugh
Oh man, she'll be telling that great story forever. The fish probably went back and told the story to his buddies too. It probably led to a discussion about whether fish or fishermen are smarter...just like we have about fish. You didn't help our side @Biglittle8! ? Seriously, glad you're OK, and thanks for sharing.- Latest Catch Pics Thread
I like those worms. I'd guess that I've caught more LMB this summer on one of those than any other lure.- How long does fluorocarbon last?
Thanks for the link. I missed that one in my search. There’s some good discussion there.- Some days it’s called “catching” and not fishing.
Congrats! Sounds like a good day on the water. Hope the eyes recover quickly from the smoke.- How long does fluorocarbon last?
I have recently started using fluorocarbon, and have decided that I like it. My original stash of fluorocarbon is getting low, and I’m thinking about buying it in larger spools next time. It will take me a while to go through 1,000 yds of line so my questions are: how long will fluorocarbon last, and is there anything I need to do to make it last longer (like keep it out of sunlight, etc.)?- Schooling bass baits
We had schools busting shad all over our end of the river last fall. Not just little ones. We saw a lot of big ones. We threw everything in the tackle box at them, but got nothing. We might as well have been putting 99¢ cheeseburgers in the middle of an all you can eat seafood buffet. All we got from it was a sore shoulder from all the casting.- Skill
Great topic, and replies to all. I am going to work on adopting this philosophy. I catch myself wondering, “was that a bite?” way too often. By the time I convince myself it’s probably not a bite…it never is.- Latest Catch Pics Thread
A quick rain shower cooled things off last night so I headed to a nearby pond with about an hour to fish. Only a couple of dinks to show for it, but that's better than not fishing.- Latest Catch Pics Thread
That was cool. Looked like you caught a couple of them on top of the grass. lol - Spotting Ponds, Finding Fish
