  1. Welcome! It’s a great place to learn about bass fishing.
  2. That’s a beautiful fish. Congrats!
  3. I bought one new reel from amazon, and it was perfect. I bought another that was used, but “like new” from AW, and it appeared to be brand new as well. I’m confident buying a reel from amazon if I can’t get what I want at a local store. I’m not so sure when it comes rods though.
  4. @roadwarrior I’m not sure what happened, but I sent it again.
  5. @roadwarrior I sent you a PM.
  6. There's a lot of good info here. You'll be catching bass soon!
  7. I agree that the Fury is a nice looking rod, and it feels very nice in my hand. I'm just questioning my own judgement on the sensitivity since so many talk about how sensitive it feels to them. I really want to get it in the water to get a more informed opinion, but our local news said it was colder here in Alabama than it is in Anchorage, Alaska today so I think I'll wait. lol
  8. Fishlegs is one of the human characters. He's a bit of a nerd...like me. I'm not cool enough to be a dragon. HaHa! If I'm honest, I'd have to admit that I like the HTTYD movies as well. There are a lot of fish that are caught in those movies, right?
  9. I got a great black Friday deal on a Dobyn's Fury 703c, and I have a question. The weather has prevented me from actually being able to fish with it, but I have taken it out in the yard to see how it feels. It is very light, and casts great, but I'm underwhelmed by the sensitivity. I like to test my rods by casting a practice plug into the grass across the street, pulling it out of the grass, into the street, and up my driveway. I have always felt a distinct difference when the plug is in the grass, vs asphalt, vs aggregate. The difference feels much more subtle with the Dobyn's than it does with my Fenwick HMG, H2O Xpress Tac-40, and even my Daiwa Aird-X feels more sensitive to the different surfaces. I really want to love the Dobyn's because of the praise it gets for its sensitivity online, but so far it's just meh for me. I'm not trying to bash a rod that seems to be universally loved. I'm just surprised. I wonder if I should swap it out. It's still within the return/exchange window, and I didn't remove the stickers/plastic from the handle. Could I have gotten a dud? Thoughts?
  10. Thanks, roadwarrior! I see Pickwick listed as one of your favorite lakes. I appreciate the offer, and I would be honored to take you up on it sometime. A great example of what I meant when I said this site has awesome people. ?
  11. Thank you for your service. I usually take 3 rods when I go to a similar size pond, and focus on those. Even if I don't catch much I try to think of it as a learning experience for next time. I hope your trip to the new pond turns out to be a great, relaxing experience.
  12. Hello BassResource! I have spent a lot of time on this site over the past few months, and I've decided it's time to do an intro post. My story is that I used to fish a lot with my dad, and granddad as a kid. Then I grew up, got married, got a job, had kids, and somehow 20 years flies by without fishing. Then the pandemic hit, many activities stopped, and boredom set in so I decided to go fishing. I caught some fish, and remembered how much I enjoy it. Unfortunately, my dad passed away a few years ago, and 2020 took my granddad, but I've spent as much time as I could this year honoring their memory by applying the things they taught me about fishing. I’ve also spent more money on new gear than I probably should have. Lol! My username “fishlegs” is from the fact that I usually fish from the bank, and my kids love How To Train Your Dragon. I'm looking forward to continuing to learn from this site as I get back into fishing. This site has so much great info, and what seems like even better people. If any of y'all fish the TN river in the Pickwick, Wilson, Wheeler area I'd love to meet you.
  13. I've been reading the site for a while, but just decided to sign up. It's a great site with a lot of good info.
