Well went fishing friday but didnt go to the dam in north dakota, decided to give the muskie a break and went to a dam in minnesota on the ottertail river for some smallies and walleye. I only caught 1 smallie, a rock bass and then it happened again, I hooked into a river monster with the berkley cherry wood rod. I didnt know what i had as it was pulling a locked down drag on the pflueguer supreme so i loosened up and took my time. A fisherman close by came over to help land this fish by hand, finally the fishes fight was over. Again with the rivers by the dam you just never know what ya gonna catch. Ok, its not a muskie but it was sure fun to haul in this buffalo carp.

vpn and torrents work great for watching thursday games. I turned on espn this morning to catch the friday scores and there is no espn at the moment for Dish. Espn owned by disney is in contract talks with dish and according to the announcement disney wants mega $$$$$ more so they are holding dish subscribers and dish hostage. Thats fine if no espn i only watch it during breakfast. I will now go back to watching Hazel.

its the future and we only live in it, cant controll it. Didnt amazon sign a 10 year deal with nfl?

Does it annoy you how many people mishandle fish, laying them on the ground and lipping them at a 45 degree angle for pictures?
A big problem with large muskie is that they are heavy, long, muscular, slimey and have big teeth. When you grab it it torques and twists its body to the point you have to put it down and grip it by the gill plate. This seems to calm the fish down and you can controll him. Am i doing damage? Well a friend of the nd yak angler showed me one day as i was fishing next to him and caught a muskie how to handle him and was ok with holding vertical from the gill plate. Upon research on my own its not good to hold vertical but to hold horizontal. This is an ok way to hold pike or muskie using a jaw gripper and supporting his lower body. This way not so good from my research for catch and release.

Who is responsible for scheduling the games in the daytime heat? Isnt the NFL all about safety? Same with packers games in dec and january being prime time night games. No, its about the gate receipts in the florida sunshine and primetime commercial slot money for the ice bowl games in the midwest.

As for people leaving trash while i am standing close by observing them my answer is no, I will not confront them and risk getting my tires slashed or other damage done because i ticked off some jagoffs. Would i pick up their trash? Only if there is a trash can within reasonable walking distance and its in the immedite area i am fishing from which wife and i have done before. As for handling fish i can do better especially with catch and release of big muskies that i have been catching recently. I will no longer hold them vertical and feel bad that i did so. I want these muskie to survive and grow to their full potential for others to catch, probably their only predator when they get big is us fisherman.

What's the one rod you would buy again without question if you broke it?
been fishing with a berkley 7' medium cherrywood for the last 3 weeks. For its cheap price i have caught muskie, bass, walleye and it now ranks as my favorite rod and would buy another if broken by me or it broke somehow on its own.

Friday at the dam wife caught a tiny smallie on a ballhead jig with a blue and white gulp minnow. As the little fish was getting reeled in a pike latched onto it so she got a 2 for 1. The pike and muskey are very aggressive at the dam. Last week the big girls attacked our stringer of walleye getting their teeth into a walleye. Wife grabbed the stringer and pulled it up with the muskie hanging on thrashing its tail and then finally wife got the stringer in minus muskey. Dont mess with the wifes walleye. This friday a big muskie was hanging out 8 feet in front of her most of the day watching the stringer of walleye and chasing her fish she was reeling in.

as a packer fan i predict the pack lose. The bucs stout defense will frustrate rodgers along with his new recievers not being in sync yet.

Today wife and I went back to our favorite dam in North Dakota. I was all geared up for smallies and walleye having snelled up 20 cheap 1/16 and 1/8 oz ball head jigs using 20# Abrasix. It rained all day with the temp at 60 degrees so the frog tog rain jacket went on but left the pants in the car so i was only 50% dry. I was using my cheepo 7ft medium berkley cherrywood rod and a pfluegeur supreme spinning reel. Caught a walleye pretty quick and then a bunch of hand size smallies on the jig with berkley flat tail worm and that was it for smallies. I then hit a lull and put on a red rattle trap and threw it up below the dam and caught a much bigger fish. Then i put on a 1oz ball head jig with a pink tube and caught another big fish Here are the pics of my 2 bigger fish. So now it really started to rain and i put on my rain jacket minus the pants and rigged up an 1/8 oz ball head jig with a berkley max scent shiner with a slip bobber and tried again for smallie and walleyes. Well darn i caught me another nice fish on this small little jig. I was so worried about loosing this one that i had to really lighten up the drag so to not bend the hook or break the 20# abrasix leader. This fish ran 30 yards down stream and i was fine with that. I thought i wore her out but as i reeled her back in front of me she jumped completely out of the water and that little jig stayed put. I brought a net today and wife helped land it. Take a look at this fish and the jig in its mouth hooked perfectly in the corner. I was just blown away that i landed this fish on this jig, it took me 15 minutes to get her in the net, i was fishing for smallies and walleye just crazy good fortune today that, ummm wait a second i caught 1 more. 4 tiger muskie from 1.30 pm till 8.30pm, i was blessed today along with the walleye we caught to bring home for supper. It was one of those days that everything aligned just right to make it happen. One more thing, i was looking down the muskies gullet and seen it had eaten someones fingers, i then realized they were mine haha. Thats how i pick them up by sliding my fingers just inside their gill plate. I now see i need to me more carefull as i am very close to the teeth.

I would ransom it for $$$$$$$$. Judge makes millions of $$$$$$ so why cant I get a slice of the $$$$$$ pie? If he personally came up to me and asked to trade it for bats or whatever I would say no and request he meets me at a bank with my lawyer and forks over whatever amount of money its estimated to be worth. I may give him a discount of a few hundred thousand if he acts quickley. If not then auction it off.

Bank, Boat, Kayak
I bank with waders on and end up chest deep in river or lake. In the philippines they use dynamite from a small baranka boat and cyinide while snorkeling in the water. The process of cyanide fishing itself indisputably wreaks havoc on coral reefs. The divers crush cyanide tablets into plastic squirt bottles of sea water and puff the solution at fish on coral heads. The fish often flee into crevices, obliging the divers to pry and hammer the reefs apart to collect their stunned prey. Though dynamite fishing in the Philippines has declined from its peak in the 1980s and 90s, the country's fisheries bureau estimates there are still 10,000 incidents every day. This illegal fishing method flattens reefs and indiscriminately kills any animal in the blast radius, including rare whales and dolphins.

Fast Current Lures
Thats great, then you probably know about the other dams in and around fergus falls and checked them out allready. I wont be going back to this place even though i am an hour away only because of the great luck i am having at the dam here in north dakota. The dam here gives us the opportunity to catch smallies, white bass, walleyes, pike, muskie and with the wife now a walleye fanatic she is having good success. She also told me she likes hanging out amongst all the boulders as it keeps me from wondering off to far so she doesnt have to worry about me as i am always in her sight hehe.

What size/brand of barrel snap swivels do you use for throwing heavy plastic spinning baits like the whopper plopper to prevent line twists?
you need to switch brands, get vmc or spro.

If a top-shelf bass fishing celebrity could join BassResource...
best podcast i ever listened to had as a guest the head of the production and testing guy from berkley baits division. He explained how they mix up ingrediants to make Gulp Alive and Max scent baits. The tank tests they do with bass and the response the fish give to the various ingrediants and then to the production of final product. He and his team spent many months testing the baits out on the water all the while gettin paid to fish, any job openings? He also stated and laughed at garlic scents as just a gimick and no good. Yes he has to sell his product and if berkley had garlic i am sure it would work wonders.

Something amazing happened to my wife when we were fishing the dam on friday. I didnt post about it because I needed to take screen shots off of the video she took. Wife was fishing a square bill crank and hooked into a fish, well sorta hooked it she snagged it in the top of the tail fin, it was a large muskie. I was a few feet away and she was struggling to reel in the fish. The drag was all the way tight as she likes it, i yelled out to loosen it up, dont break off and she did that and she yelled out her arms were sore and asked me to take over. I did and she started filming. I got the fish right up to the rocky bank paralel with it and the fish was calm. She went to get the fish grabber and bent down to insert it into the mouth and it shook its tail fin, the lure flies into the air and it slowly swam away. I was amazed that the trebble hook in the tail fin lasted the duration it did. Another incredible thing is she was using the $2.00 rod i bought 2 weeks ago at an estate sale, a wallmart FLW tour 6-6 medium rod and not her usual Ugly stick GX2. Notice the pic, it loaded up but didnt break. And just one more thing, that was the first muskie of the day. I caught one and landed it later in the day. Dams are just so fun to fish. my muskie later that day

Yes, everything i tried upon meeting this woman failed me, even my wife was catching fish by the dam. So i decided to take a walk along the rocky bank to my special place to catch my first fish.
