  1. I just got back from a trip where I only had my SLX-DC. I might have even thought it was my least favorite reel. It feels kinda plasticy. It even scratches easily. I had thought of using it and then leaving it with my brother. I did bring a 200k, but it is spooled w 14lb flouro. I wanted braid so the DC was up to bat. I was flat out flinging 3/4 oz baits against the wind with it. Far! I honestly have the nanny setting at 4 (Max braking) and never touched it again. I seem to backlash at lesser settings. My first cast was a tester and it flew fine. All my other cast were almost out of anger-like. I put my back into it and fired for the horizon. It would zing and I could see my spool diameter shrink. I don’t know what distance I was getting, but it seemed like half the spool was in the water. I was throwing further than a spinning rig throwing a 5/8 oz wave bait. It was amazing. I would be lying if I didn’t think to myself, “hmmmm, I wonder what the Curado would be like?” in the end I brought the reel home with me and didn’t give it to my brother. Another friend at fish-camp asked about my reel and ordered the Curado 150DC just by watching how well mine casts. He is 100% spinning, so I I think he made a decent “1st caster” choice. get the SLX DC. It’s pretty sick. Cheaper felling in the outside, but the guts are sick.
  2. The feathers have a weird grip (for me). They have a taper that gets narrower as it goes towards the back of the rod. It was so odd feeling at the beginning. Having said that; I have two. They work fine. Good sensitivity and they are indeed light. Not sure I would buy more. the more mundane Maxim series is heavier, but I love it. The grip color is kinda ugly, but form follows function. but if it breaks or sinks, I’m gonna step that rod up. It’s my dropshot rig, and I’ll get a great version next. I use it so often I can justify a great rod.
  3. Not sure who stole the intellectual property, but I went with the Teckle version. I like his videos, even tho I can’t understand Japanese (yet)
  4. I don’t even photograph the fish I hook like that. It’s back into the water STAT.
  5. My friends secret weapon is a Shower Blows. Don’t understand the name, but he kills behind us whopper plopperers.
  6. I high buoyancy square bill is what I would use. One that you can stop and it floats away from danger. if it snags I’m going in there to try to get it.
  7. Just knowing the name of the affliction can help. You know what’s going on isn’t imagined. Glad you are finding help. And your fiancée sounds like an angel. I was told by therapist, “action before motivation “. She said sometimes a brain needs to be reminded what joy is. So doing what we know is joyful despite the lack of motivation can do that. Not sure if it works but I tried. hope you land a giant on a new rod bro.
  8. This is great posting. I remember a lanyard in my truck. I found it and coincidentally they are branded Costa’s. The fit perfectly and the rubber tabs now provide the grip needed to stay on my cap. Thanks. The lanyards are a thin plastic wire so they don’t get in my way.
  9. What a fun FUN bait. I’m not great at walking a bait. But I got good. Not great, but good. the fish were hitting a wake-bait, but I wanted to be different. I just gritted my teeth and kept at it with everyone catching on the wake-bait. Eventually I homed in on the technique. I slowed down and would pause. If a fish missed, I would stop cold. What would happen next would take the air out of my lungs. They came back to finish the kill. With an explosion of the water. It was so exciting. One time three fish were punching my bait into the air like a water polo match. I could walk it in fairly choppy water. the bait in my hands could really benefit with a rod with a softer tip. It would walk easier. It weighed 3/4 oz so it shoots thru the air. It has that weight transfer thing to get it to fly far, even against the wind. I love the thing and plan to buy the smaller size for my local LMB.
  10. Yea. I remember your advice. I like glass in certain situations. Like the ocean. plastic for pitch/flip. but I was hoping this thread was about them falling off my cap, which is a move pretty much all fishermen do. I think.
  11. Thanks everyone. I did not consider the extra weight of glass. I’m sure that compounds the problem of them slipping off my ballcap.
  12. Hypothetically. If we compare apples to apples. curado 150 vs curado 200. Does the 200 have more power or torque? Or is it mostly line capacity? im going overseas fishing and considering buying a new reel. Maybe the Curado 150 DC or the 200 version.
  13. Thanks. Just trying to understand the mechanics. in my mind it’s slipping on the drag.
  14. The drag is letting out line, and you happen to crank the reel; are gears being destroyed? Or is it just slipping at the drag (more)?
  15. Wonderful , delightful glass. Clarity. Etc. the fit covers my eyes nicely. Even. From the sides. I have the DiIEGO. I have a giant head. i have glass lenses so I usually do not wear them LMB fishing. but they don’t stay on my cap. When I’m unhooking a fish or tying a knot where I need my full eyesight , I take them off and put them above my cap-bill. There is zero grip between the plastic ear pieces and the fabric of a cap. They will pop off and fall anywhere. I put the tiniest “first blemish” on the lens. On my kayak, I would hope they float. ( I’ll research costs:( ) il buy lanyards for them , but I don’t love those. I’m not used to them and I don’t love dangly things on my chest.
  16. Wow! Casting a 1/2 to 3/4in a stiff wind wasn’t ideal but I got it done. Sensitively wasn’t such a concern with a moving bait. It preloaded just enough. It’s light! So casting a thousand times was okay. Fighting a fish was a d**n pleasure. I got 9 lb Stripers to bend to my will. I had a regular garden variety SLX DC on it because honestly it has the freshest braid in the correct poundage. The ferrules never budged. I want to buy the spinning rig now, but I can’t come up with a solid story for the wife just yet. Sun is setting on my last day in Oklahoma.
  17. The Berkeley Surge Shad. Bone color! the mat Grey as well.
  18. I only got one fish tonight. But dang! What a fight. my NEW STRIPER PB!! Sixteen point five pounds!
  19. (Double checked. Didn’t spell that Stripper) 9.8 lbs. what a fight on a 2500 spinning reel. And a10lb leader. My bud got a 16.75!
  20. I’m in Oklahoma now. The 2500 is handling Striper fine. Smooth drag. Very smooth. I was casting against the wind 3 days and finally got a knot halfway down the spool. I got my backup. Procyon AL. Less smooth drag. Heavier overall. only one more day to fish so I will respool it at home. Not dealing with it now.
  21. Fire. Saving last three episodes for flight home
