  1. I read that. Earlier. this lake still needs about 40 more feet of water before the open up a north boat ramp. Add how can the water level be 202 feet above where it goes over a spillway?
  2. See pic. Local lake is 402 feet elevation. Fool pool is 202 feet below that? lake is still low. I don’t understand. Is this the level the lake naturally was before the dam was built?
  3. I love this response. I do feel reaction baits coming thru grass. it's kinda nice feeling the grass immediately so you can yank it out. the hit after that, is unmistakable. but knowing right when you bury into the grass...priceless. (braid helps (me))
  4. I can still see far. pretty well. close? not so much. I got some readers prescribed and I am okay with it now. I have come to terms with it. I am still capable of tying fishing knots bare-eyed, so I am still blessed. low light conditions are challenging, but I have the improved clinch knot memorized, I can fuddle thru. dim romantic restaurants..I find my glasses or my wife simply orders for me if I forgot them.
  5. not much. one of the reasons I joined this forum. to chat with like-minded fanatics. my office coworkers. I spare them the fish photos and stuff.
  6. yea. WRB is right. I think there are huge hurdles to live on a lake front. it is rare. I could be wrong. when I fish Shasta, I have to blow up an air mattress and sleep under my truck capper. getting skunked makes for a long quiet drive home. burping canned stew. yuck. the goal is to catch fish. and enjoy the process while doing so. the entire process. yea, some of it is looking at nature. ticking on a distance lonely beach.
  7. 2022. I just realized I didnt throw a jig very often. I am gonna dust those off and throw them way more. I love me a jig bite.
  8. I'll do yoga if I am looking for inner peace. I want to catch bass/fish. this is directly proportional to the time/effort/distance/cost to make the trip happen.
  9. I admit..that does sound exciting way over here where we dont have alligators. but I will fish FL one day in a kayak. soon. I'll bring adult diapers.
  10. yea. I am using those Nocqua batteries. they are not that robust. none of mine or my friends go over 12.4 anymore. I am gonna buy another type of battery. go big.
  11. personally I paid for the brakes. I am using them. haha. I got nothing to prove.
  12. great post. I only have an SLX DC. I bought it on a whim after a huge birdnest of my doing. I was looking for a silver bullet. nope. the silver bullet is time. I'll still nest to my own amusement. less funny when the fish are biting, but hey. I am totally human.
  13. I think the opposite is also true. there is a reason we dont fish dead lakes. if I knew I wasn't gonna catch a fish at all, I wouldn't go. its why we have our favorite lakes, and lakes we dream about fishing. it is to catch that dang fish. the original quote is too narrow. there are been some great responses. the gear, the prep, the study of the prey, etc. great responses.
  14. truth. as an adult, i think i understand it better. as a teen i was oblivious.
  15. i'll send a few in every down season. we have a 2 month period where work, life, weather dampen my fishing spirit anyways.
  16. i'm going to buy one. for my rides on my friends bassboat mostly. his PFD are too big and they kinda suck. i am going to file this one under, "things i dont want to skimp on"...like sushi, and heart surgery. it is okay to spend a few extra bucks.
  17. "enjoyment" isn't single speed. there are many levels. (for me at least) I dont agree with it.
  18. :D. he almost could be accused of booby trapping the thing. one 2 star yelp review coming up...hahah.. just kidding. there is no denying it is smoother than OEM. birds would fly right past that huge nest. too hard to heat and keep clean.
  19. dang bud. that is some heavy stuff for a teen. (or an adult for that matter)
  20. in summary. there is no way I set my brakes to Zero and survive the spool wipeout. no way. I have the training wheels planted firmly on the ground at this point.
  21. our electric only lakes are water supply lakes. might play a part in them rules.
  22. taco truck? were we separated at birth?. if you come to Clearlake. food truck on me. I dont know much about the Delta, but I can show you the best dang seafood cocktail known to man. right near the Delta. Bethel Island area. we should talk next season. get on them!!
  23. I got my reel back from a pro cleaning and such. (see my defunct "brackish water" thread). I got back from a work event, and saw the box!! I put it on a rod and tightened up the spool and "let it rip tater chip" and sent my practice plug across the street. there was no saving it...that BLLRRRRRPPPFT sound of line embedding within itself. FACCCK! I just started laughing. In my youthful exuberance, I forgot to double check everything. mainly the brakes. hahahh..everything was at ZERO! I fix everything. AKA, new line and all is good in the world again. wow. set the brakes to "rookie". is it possible to cast with Zero brake? before brakes (any type) what was life like? the reels must be so much free spinning now right? can you cast with Zero brake?
  24. ahh...for some reason, I thought you lived closer to me. more north. that is a longass haul to fish the Delta!!
  25. way too rainy for fishing just yet. first clear stretch of weather an I will try to have something to contribute to this awesome thread. I hope it isn't in Feb. or MARCH!! but we are adoring the rain.
