What rod do you use for flukes/weightless senko?
I’ve thrown so many weightless senkos with a Dobyns Fury 733. So any subsequent rod choices after that are based on the light side of medium now.

My one and done salt rod.
Got a new salt rod. An 8’ swim bait rod I already had- I didn’t like it. It was too long, behaved weird w honking- huge lead sinkers. And the reel seat felt loose all the time. went with a Daiwa Harrier-X, Med power in the 7 footer configuration. It’s light! I can tuck the butt end in my armpits when I’m horking up big rockfish from 100 feet deep. the Lexa 300 is okay. It will be my gateway reel into the realm of lever drag reels.

Micro Trips?

our work team building exercise. building a small wooden bridge.
You mean “over designed”? Sure. When it’s done. And if it’s not embarrassing. 😳 Bending equal radius arches is going to be tough. I’m using a bucket as my radius. Hmmmmm.

I'm off GoPro.
yes Sir!! I will report back. for starters it couples and plays better with our phones from the get go. and it only takes the fastest SD cards..my GoPRo one was rejected by the DJI. I got an error message that said CARD IS TOO SLOW>> @Glenn BEST part. the GoPro attachment accessories all work!! no need to buy new mounts!! See! Saves us money.

our work team building exercise. building a small wooden bridge.
all Civil Engineers. we are having a huge staff meeting. all the teams have been given a random assortment of popsicle sticks and paint stirrers..some glue as well. using no power tools, they are building a small Bridge for us supervisors to load up and see where it breaks. using a car jack from a truck to pull down. as a Supervisor I cant participate. haha...that didnt sit well with me, so I got some parts and I am building something for the "Unlimited Class". I have paint stir sticks I steamed and have clamped into a bent position...a Hail Mary. FUN!!

What’s been productive in the first half of 2025
I did well with the Neko as well. but I have a duffel full of Beavers. I'd love to fish with you one day @RRocket. I am shopping for a travel van and will do a country wide sweep maybe next year. I'm knocking on your door..hahahha lets see if my plan hatches.

I'm off GoPro.
the GoPro batteries were always suspect. my wife surprised me with a new action camera. she got me the DJI OSMO 5!! it is really neat. the main thing is the "pre-record" feature. I can have it on and in ready-mode. I get a bite, hopefully a topwater blowup...I hit RECORD button!! it will capture any timeframe I ask of it up to 5 minutes before I pressed that button. I say 30 seconds should capture the hook-set drama. very very cool. the other thing? each battery gives me almost 4 hours of run time. 3 of my goPro batteries couldnt cover that duration. I'm not starting a YouTube channel....but I can.. hahahah..

I'm still team-FREErig. Dolive Beaver. I have to be, I bought a metric ton of the stuff. it is embarrassing.

Rod length =?
Oof. I hesitate to debate this. But i feel all else being equal, a shorter rod is more sensitive because the information has a shorter path to our hands(????). Maybe I’m wrong. I don’t have rods shorter than 7.

Curado MGL or DC?
I have both. They both kick butt in their own way. The DC is my undisputed distance champion. It is untouchable. Wind in my face? Whatever. I’ll adjust reel accordingly and send it. It rides on my rod for topwater right now. the MGL kills too. I rarely lash it anyways. you have great choices. You can’t choose poorly here.

Flurocarbon Help
a sage fishing store owner suggested to me that I start with 12lb flouro line as a jumping off point. I kinda stayed in that neighborhood from that point on. this is on my casting reels. casts easy, far, accurate...strong for any bass I encounter. I also use 14lb if it gets weedy, or the bait is heavier. 1/2 oz jigs and stuff. for spinning, I only use 20lb braid or PE equivalent. yes to flouro leaders. usually 10lb leaders. I am burning up my 20lb stuff I bought out of error for the ocean..it is coming in handy!! it was much to heavy for my needs in my bait casters.

Evollution Of (my) Kayak Carts.....
@Crow Horse the straps are attached so cleanly!!! thanks. I bought new NRS straps and cut up my old dirty ones for cart-duty. great suggestion, just wanted to make sure I thanked you. you save me time and money by not trying different variations. BOOM!

Rod length =?
I'm shopping for a saltwater rod. jigging. going with a 7 footer.. perplexing to me, is that a lot of that length is the handle behind the reel. I'm like in bizarro world. fresh water..I got this!

Abu Garcia Maxwinch 5.4:1 baitcaster for Massive deep diving crankbaits
@LouisianaAngler24 thank you for the suggestion. I will pick some up for sure. a deep crank is essential in Mexico. I hated the 10xd and almost thru a tantrum with myself. haha.. luckily I tossed out an LV500, worked it deep like a jig hopping off the bottom and killed em as well. thanks for the deep crank option.

Andrey
I dont dip into my spare reel often. but I have. I take one to Oklahoma with me. it gets used EVERY single trip. thankfully, not by me. someone will blow up a reel, and my spare saves the day. it is a very janky SLX DC reel. it has be demoted to "spare" for awhile now.

could be submerged trees or bush.

Andrey
Keep them both. Carry the Lews in your pack just in case you grenade the primary reel with an unrecoverable back lash. my best backlashes are historically sent from shore. Hook a branch behind me, center punch a log in front of me….

Abu Garcia Maxwinch 5.4:1 baitcaster for Massive deep diving crankbaits
That list above can start and end with the 10XD! that bait is unpleasant to fish. (For me). I don’t even consider it from my kayak. It’s like a 10lb thrust trolling motor pulling me around.

I'm begging for a new rod.
I’m not qualified to speak to this condition you’re suffering. Good luck, I’m out.
