  1. Standard 90% of the time. Mini on less dense slop and occasionally a frogzilla. Caught my 2nd biggest bass on one. Little bass won't hit them.
  2. For use in non slip, Med XF st Croix in casting. Jerk bait rod basically. If fishing slop I up to a longer rod in MHF
  3. I paid for the t wing just in case it helped. Either way a conventional Shimano brake will throw a frog further. For casts where you skip or contact things I will take the daiwa 100% of the time though.
  4. Black, White or Green.
  5. I am going to generalize because the specifics are budget dependent, but from my testing with the same line on the same rod: Shimano with conventional brakes casts the furthest, then the Daiwa, then the Shimano DC when frogging. I use an older Chronarch on my frog rod now. I use BB's. Sometimes they make the difference.
  6. I spent a bunch on mine, but my goal was as close to 8' as possible, super light tip, rather heavy action and overall really light weight. Built a custom Loomis to meet those needs. IMO the best thing you can do is have a longer rod. The difference in casting and being able to pick up line with the rod is huge and super helpful when fishing the slop. I run 50lb on my dedicated rod as I can just rip pads out of the water then. On my "not deep in the slop" frog rod it's a MH with 30lb.
  7. My 12 year old made dinner for a "look into asia" assignment. Pad Prig Krapow and Pad Tuafakyao. So good.
  8. Glad to get together wherever.
  9. Whenever fish are up in the slop you can throw a frog. Spawn+ anyways as I haven't had any luck prespawn. Mid day is often my favorite time...but I live in MN. Not sure what that would mean further south. They do get tighter to the sweet spots in high sun though which imo makes them easier to catch. As for frogs, anyone you have confidence in will work.
  10. That sounds like my attempts with FC period. On a spinning reel it's a disaster. Even 6lb I wouldn't do.
  11. Boat should always match the trailer. 😃 As for what goes on the hook I match usually, but when that doesn't work I contrast as one of my first change ups.
  12. Nice fish! Grabbed my boat today. Hope to have a garage next week so I can rerig it for spring.
  13. Refill unless my tank is old, then exchange.
  14. Seeing a missed fish is great unless it is a giant and potentially pb then it's brutal
  15. From cold water they are good. Summer slime not so much.
  16. If you have no electronics.
  17. I have 4 props for my tiller. The quickest, nor the fastest are the ones I like. Bow lift and mid range response are the most important to me. Fluctuations in setup are almost 10mph between them. The most fun and best performing, in particular in rough water is the one with the most capable acceleration when already on plane.
  18. I power fish most of the time. Grew up in Detroit lakes so different up north but similar. Fish can be shallow at anytime but not usually at the back of expansive shallow flats. Something needs to make it easy for them to get in and out of their haunts.
  19. I don't think I am an expert at all, but if I had my way I would fish frogs 100% of the time.
  20. Mine is a custom Loomis 904 that I extended to 7'10". At the time my rod lockers were only 8' long so it was so they could fit. As for why it helps? Casting distance but more importantly when you connect with a fish you can get it up and over the slop quickly. You need both power and length to do that. In addition I find the longer rod a bit easier to get the right action on the frog from a distance. I should add that mine is older so the 904 is not the same blank as today, but even stiffer. It is significantly more stout than the 844. Some of the length in my rods are also eaten up by the butt. I am 6'7" so I have the butt sections built longer to better tuck under my forearms.
  21. Depending on the cost I am interested as well.
  22. Mine is 7'10" and wish I had gone longer.
  23. I had most of my rods built when you could still buy Loomis blanks, so a bunch of them are. Comparing each custom to the associated Loomis rod mine are much nicer, better balanced and have a grip layout that I chose. Hands down if you know why you want what you want a custom will fit your needs better. If you don't you may just end up building the wrong rod
  24. Seriously ALL non race cans suck. All these options that are being offered are garbage in comparison. Get a race can and enjoy super fast, spill free pouring. They aren't even expensive. Stop with this other nonsense.
