Jealous. Was hoping to get out one more time..but stuck in Europe for another week so I think I probably won't manage.

Weekend traffic and general traffic on lake Minnetonka is harder on the fishing than the 30 or so tournaments that are on it a year. That being said for the first time in a really long time my best day on tonka this year was opener

There are only two givens in bass fishing for me. They are I will ALWAYS have a frog on the deck of the boat and ALWAYS have a jig. I'll fish a frog when they are stupid to fish, because I love frogs....but if it isn't a frog I can fish a jig basically anywhere. As for why they don't work for you....well you aren't throwing them in the right places. If you were, you'd catch fish. That is always step 1. If you are sure that is okay, then you are working it wrong...which is WAY harder to do than step 1. Deadsticked, swam quickly, hopped, jerked, dropped, doesn't really matter....they catch fish. I'd expect you aren't in the right place and the one thing that a jig isn't great at is covering a lot of water fast. You can fish them fast and swim them sure, but that would not be the first presentation I'd try using them on.

I would have bought the 15' talon, but I'd have to fold it to get in the garage.

I spent a lot of time there when younger. Shocking how many 4+ lb bass I pulled out from underneath boats. The reaction from those swimming was always funny

Shallow still water where ducks hang out is not a good idea. Our bay you can see the bottom in 18' of water which makes you almost feel like you could drink it. Sad since it is definitely the lake with the most human pee in it in MN

Surprised we are on page two and no one has shared the one and vital tip for ANY and ALL green vegetables. If you want them green and seasoned right it is very simple. Boil some water that is a bit saltier than the ocean...yes taste it. Add the sprouts (or any green veg) and cook to just under your liking. Pull them out, drop them in an ice bath to stop the cooking. Pull them out and pat dry. Now finish them in bacon fat/butter/etc in a hot pan or really hot oven/pan to carmelize the bottoms. Deep frying at this point also works, but they better be even drier than for the pan. Asparagus, green beans, fresh peas, spinach, oh hell, anything green REALLY benefits from a quick cook in seasoned water and cool down on ice.

I go through 2-3 gallons of Superior Cover All a year. It makes everything look better and stays pretty good as well. Old thread.... Cast with the arm you want to, reel with the other. Can be different for different baits but that is always the answer.

Usually something heavier than an 843 and less heavy than an 844, but always longer than either. There is the occasion to go lighter but that is rare.

If there was no bun my wife would be leading the pack here...but she is pretty anticarb so that would slow her down. As for me, I have zero desire but could easily slam down 1 a minute for 10. That would be pretty much at a brick wall then though.

For those presentations I had my bass rods all built to 7'10" to fit in an 8' rod locker. I would pick the longer one for sure.

I've never caught a bass on a drop shot. Of course I've hardly tried. It's like ice fishing. Screw that.

I have a few pool cues for musky but for bass a 4 power Loomis or MH SC cover all I need on the heavy end. ....I do not have a big swimbait rod

Well, this one listed at $11,800...but I bought it from their distributor after it was discontinued for $2250. Bloody steal for that. It is also their biggest model which is pointless IMO. The real thing is truly 304 steel and real burners. Those sheet metal burners are an exercise in futility and replacement yearly. That makes no sense IMO.

Here is the inside of my Lynx. Bought it in 2003 and it's been outside uncovered right in the elements ever since. The smoker trays show a little rust on the covers but otherwise the 3 burners that are in the grill are perfect as is the whole interior. I do clean it once every couple years, but the grill is a beast. Lifetime warranty on the burners and there is not a mark on them.

In that range if you have a hole in your arsenal custom is the only way to go IMO.

If I am cooking on a flame outside it will be on the breeo fire pit. Currently either with red oak or cherry as that is what I have cut up now. Time for a divorce?

Buy a 304 stainless one and the problem goes away.

The best grills still include rocks....but they are usually ceramic now. A stainless grill and brass burners and there is nothing to rot. My Lynx is 16 years old, sits outside in a forest uncovered and looks brand new.

Ive got a 54" lynx. Nothing to wear out but the lava rocks. Putting it up for sale though as my charcoal is faster, hotter and more controllable. Most importantly it tastes better as well.
