  1. I get that part, what I mean is that the first person that came up with the jig showed it to his fishing buddy who most likely only used worm to catch fish, he taught that was just gimmick.. my point is pretty much every lure started that way.. some of them stay and become the real thing, but some stay just a gimmick .
  2. If I didn't know anything about fishing and you showed me a jig, I would have not believed that thing would catch anything. like many things we use, there is noting like it in the water. Do you think someone told Gary that his famous lure was just a gimmick?? I guess fish are dumb and will eat anything.
  3. I guess everything we use is a gimmick, if the goal is to catch a bass we do not need most of the lures, bunch of different rods and I'm sure a Zebco 33 would do. I feel like very lure we use has been listed by someone here as a gimmick. At the end it doesn't really matter for me, I have as much fun looking at and buying gear as I do fishing. so keep it coming.
  4. Thanks!! I'll give it a try! I have been using TSI 321 Synthetic lubricant.. So far it has done its job. Also, I use the bottles on Shimano reels, they do last for a long time.
  5. Not much besides a little bit of oil.. unless it going be donated then I do open it up and service them, I do not want to give some kid a junk reel that will give them trouble.
  6. It seems hard to brake them, but alcohol makes the task a lot easier.
  7. This is just bass fishing, I don't think need anything to be dedicated. Its more a question if you want one or not. If you do, go for it. If not you will be fine with what you already have.
  8. Personally, I believe glass rods should have been discontinued (not for the super cheap stuff) a long time ago.. but now brands are trying to sell us the idea that we need glass and composites rods for certain applications. like everything, its just a scheme to sell us more crap that we didn't need from the start. And yes, I fell and bought some too
  9. Hope that Daiwa makes one, not because they are worst or better than shimano but because competition drives innovation and lower costs for everyone. I have only one Curado DC reel that i use to cast cranks against the wind. works great for that.. but I wound not buy another.
  10. Because its cheaper than the psychiatrist (not by much)
  11. the issue here is that the metanium small knobs sucks.. my favorite handle is the 150MGL XG. large knobs and long handle. For reference, I put shimano handles on my dawias.. I like them all same length and larger knobs.. on metaniums I replace the knobs with the MGL ones. MGL's don't come with bearing, but I really don't see the deference. Also, the retaining nut plastic part is different you you need to buy that part plus the handle (nut itself its the same)
  12. You can just order it here. I have bought a few but don't remember the length. https://fishshop.shimano.com/collections/met100xg?page=2
  13. What did your "friend" do?
  14. Well, at least not within my budget 😄
  15. Totally agree.. maintenance cost adds up quickly. In my case, In my case storage was the limitation, while my garage could easily fit a 22' boat, it didn't make it easy to put anything else besides my wife's truck. accessing kids bikes, the kayaks, the lawn equipment was just a pain.
  16. Buy the best boat you can easily afford, tow and store.
  17. I would start by setting a budget, you can definitely find a kayak that will suit your needs just need to identify how much are you willing to spend..
  18. Get a new Levante, then call St Croix for a replacement.
  19. Gera replied to Kayak Koz's topic in Fishing Reports
Now this is cool, I will start doing the same.
  20. Who cares about fishing, I just want to be back in 1991..
  21. I bet that it will taste like fish for sure.
  22. Congratulations on the PB.... also for the best post on BR in a while.
