Completely agree, but my point goes on that you shouldn't just rule out something just because some old dude died, fishermen die on all conditions I seen people on the thinnest ice, just to be there first.. its just crazy the amount of disregard they have for their safety and its usually people that have grown up in the area and feel they control everything.

You're missing out!! Just have to be safe.. I'm sure more people die each year open water fishing related incidents that on the ice.

To me it made sense to apply it, I do not take great care of my gear so applying it right before first use allows me to care of them even less. The feel, yes its different.. but then either the weird feeling disappears after first use or you get use to it really quick.

Well, I tried the reel cover thing, but being honest I didn't care for it.. I buy quality gear so it last, I (wrongly) assume that a reel that price should be able to handle it.. At the same time that's the reason I don't buy real high end gear.. I know i wont really take great care of it. Since I know myself I do not expect them to be in mint condition. Also, I own Daiwas and Shimanos about 50-50 so not a fanboy or hater of them. My point is, pain chips and peels on my Dawia worst than it does on my Shimanos while both being neglected the same way. At the same time Daiwa has better brakes so who cares about the pain job.

What kills the high end look of a zillion (or any Daiwa that I have purchased) for me is how terrible their paint is. That is the one thing I wish they learn from Shimano.. These reels paint peels off so easy!! I'm not a fan of extreme care of my fishing equipment, at the end they are tools and I treat them as such. the paint job in a Shimano will outlast a Daiwa by far.. I also think their knobs suck but that as easy fix.

At lest for me, 1oz weight does not justify the $750 dollar price tag with the Zillion being such a good reel. The Metanium MGL is 0.5oz lighter and $80dls more expensive (than a zillion). The 2024 Steez SV TW being 1oz lighter will set you an additional $380 dollars. That is ~2.4 times more expensive per oz. If you add the fact that the Met is 4 years older than the steez.. I'm going to say that at leas for me the Zillion did make my Metaniums obsolete and completely made any plans for a Steez obsolete as well.

Real state in a kayak is at a premium. For me I didn't make sense to have a second screen that I could still look at with a click of a button on a screen that is at arm's reach. I do understand in a boat where you are running at much, much faster speed and you need more info to make quick decisions.

On main topic, live bait fishing is a different sport that is complemented with a warm summer afternoon, a cooler full of beer and a co-fisherman to chat with. (maybe even a garden chair)
