Old People
My 97 year old MIL passed earlier this year, the last of that generation making us the old people now on both sides.

Marital problems...
Booze tried to do my marriage in, got pretty close to succeeding. It was a lot of hard work to stay together, living paycheck to paycheck helped as we couldn’t afford the house and an apartment, as did having kids. Takes a lot to try and forget the hurt done to each other, certainly would have been easier to split up. It’s been almost 30 years, still have to work at it occasionally, forgetting is hard to do.

Somebody Please Help Me To Understand: Is it Gamakatsu or Gamagatsu?
I haven’t got that one right in almost 70 years, to me it’s war-chester, and always will be.

Favorite cheap wines...
Mad Dog was the wine of choice at tech school in the Air Force in the 70's, and not because it was any good. Mad Dog and Old Milwaukee 14 oz cans, no wonder school went by in a haze.

Favorite fishing books
Whether you fly fish or not, the wit in all John Gierach’s books are great to read.

At What Temperature Do You Stop Fishing?
I didn’t think about hypothermia when I was younger, I do now. That’s why I was thinking I might still fish if I had a power boat vs a canoe.

do you like Multitools? Leathermans and stuff.
Retired computer tech. I've had a couple but found them too bulky to carry in a pocket and the little ones too small to be of use. Went with the Swiss Army Tinker, probably have a half dozen, carry one most of the time. One in the truck and one in the tackle.

At What Temperature Do You Stop Fishing?
I fish shallow waters in a canoe, might be different in a real boat. I stop when the fish do, for my style that’s when the water gets to about 50 which seems to coincide with a few nights in the 30’s and day temps in the low 50’s. It has a lot to do with age too, the older I get the less I can handle the cold.

Favorite fly setup for bass
Same here, 9’ 7wt. Not much of a fly fisherman, The only thing I can get to cast right is streamers, I’ve tried some of the big floating bugs, but they don’t go anywhere.

Why is Ky. listed as being in the North East zone?
Glen’s from Washington. Being from MA I really don’t know what states make up anything but the Northeast, best I can do is guess.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
In the last couple weeks I've put away my gear, and cleaned up the boats for winter. Twice now I've reloaded the truck and gone fishing, looks to be another one tomorrow. I think this is the 1st year I've gotten out in November. Not much biting but it's just too darn nice to not go out for a few hours. High 60's during the day, 30's at night.

The drawbacks of a canoe.
Sounds like a 3 seater, not something I'd want to solo in given a choice.

Eastern Ma & New England Area Fishing Reports
Better then me. Took my GS out on Friday for a few hours in the afternoon. 3 bites, 2 were pickerel, 1 1.25 lb bass. Saving grace was it was beautiful out if you don't mind a breezy 50 degrees, love the fall in the woods. The water was 51-54, freezing temps overnight. Weeds are almost gone, water is clearing up, crystal clear is some areas.

Georgia vs Tennessee Next Saturday
I'm pulling for Uga, but you won't see me putting any $ on his team.

Something else that's changed for the holiday. The grand kids had a Halloween party/scary woods walk Saturday night, much candy. Today, Sunday, they have a Trunk or Treat the town puts on, more candy. Tomorrow night is the usual house to house, again more candy. We might have gotten more, bigger, candy in our day, but we only had 1 night of it.

Nice spinning reel rod
I have a 2500 too,use it on a 6'6" M Premier. For heavy weeds i go to a MH of the same.

The drawbacks of a canoe.
Mine's 29" wide at the gunwales so there's no way I'm standing. It's wood so it's pretty quiet, I put in a cheap carpet runner when I'm fishing which helps too. Being narrow its fairly tippy although I've used it so much it doesn't bother me anymore. The wind is a pain but I stay home if its going to be more then 7 or 8 mph and use an anchor pretty much all the time. If properly placed, the wind doesn't get in my way till over 8 or so. Being as how I built it and can fix it I'm not that concerned about rocks and such. Every 6 or so years I refinish it. About 25 years on it so far. At just 45 lbs, I'm not going to a yak.

Holloween
Growing up we lived in houses built for returning WWII GI's, each had about 1/4 acre. The neighborhood went on for ever, filling a pillow case till it was too heavy for you was the norm. Today everything is on an acre or 2, maybe 30 homes in walking distance for the few kids that are here, most are long grown. Still it's a safe area, so far, so my kids bring the grand kids here, which is good as other then them we get maybe 6 others. Most of the one box of bars goes home with them. I still enjoy it, but nothing like when I was a kid.

Has anyone ever fished for striped bass from a canoe?
I've had 4 lb pickerel scare me in my solo canoe when it did an unexpected bee line under me from one side of the canoe to the other, sucked the rod tight to the hull, feels like it's going to pull the boat over. I can't imagine what a 20+ lb fish could do. Might be a good time to think about outriggers, Yak Gear makes a nice set that works on both yaks and canoes.

Do I discard a fish if it has worms in the stomach?
I think once I had seen the worms in it I would not be able to eat it.

Don't know what else to do...
Water was 51-54 up in the hills Tuesday, the only thing that worked for me was T rigged craws low and slow. Thought that was my last day of the year but GS #2 wants to go out tomorrow after a half day at school, so I get in one more. Time to reload the truck.

Fishing as Therapy.
My 97 yo MIL was staying with us for a month a couple years ago, she tripped over the carpet in her bedroom early in the evening, broke her upper arm, and just sat in a chair all night as she didn't want to bother us. Sure makes one feel guilty. 6 months later she was god as new. All the throw rugs in the house were gone the same day. Some of these old ladies are tough.
