  1. I'm out for 1st light when I go too. Originally I went that early as I heard that was the best time for big bass, other then night. Turns out to not be true where I go, or at least how I fish, it usually picks up an hour or so later. The reasons I still go that early are it's the most peaceful and the least wind. A canoe is a pain in the wind. It usually gives me till 10 or 11.
  2. My problem is getting the speed right. When I'm cranking in a lure I go mostly by the feel of the lure, can't tell when paddling. By the looks of the rod tip it always looks like I'm going way too fast. I did have some luck yesterday afternoon with a beetle spin. Had a few on while crossing the pond but as I crushed the barb I didn't land any. That was the 1st time trolling worked for me, well, sort of.
  3. My worst is getting up 2 hours before daybreak so I can be on the water 30 min before the sun comes up, just light enough to see where I'm going. I rarely catch anything that early but I keep doing it. I'll be up at 03:45 again Friday.
  4. Sprinkler system doesn't do us any good, we're only allowed to water on Mondays, before 9 and after 5, so the lawn burns up anyway when it's in the 90's all week. Every year the restrictions come earlier then the last. Getting very frustrated. FWIW for 12poundbass, whenever I work on an area, seeding and such, it takes 3 years for the grass to fill in well enough to match the rest of the yard.
  5. Transitions don't transition enough, hopefully they have changed.
  6. Bass Raider or canoe so no boat gas. 60 min backroad drive one way, cost me $20 today, F150 4x4. Maybe $10 for supplies, so $30 for a day out with one of the grandsons.
  7. Spiders, not all, but close. Heights anything over about 10'. Which sucks when you love to hike. It really gets in the way when you visit places like Zion, or The Grand Canyon.
  8. With absolutely no idea as to the reason why, for me some days the craws don't work and the bugs do, and vice versa. FWIW, from my observations the craws have more action. I use both sizes of craws and the 2 smaller sizes of the bugs.
  9. Just changing lures and retying for chewed line shortens mine every time I go out. No way would I chance with as little as you have, I know there's an 8 lb'er out there somewhere waiting for me to screw up. Supposedly, like baitcasters, a full spool is about an 1/8" from the lip of the spool.
  10. Agree, fit it in the yak, not on top.
  11. You might find some useful info in the Bass Raider thread, a lot of reading though. I'd get a set of flush mounts and put them right behind where you sit. Look into upgrading that seat, put on a paddle holder, and if it were me, an anchor cleat. Anything else can wait till you see what you want.
  12. Which one is dumb, the one that plays every week or the one that only plays at 500M?
  13. To me the drag is too light, I'd go to 15 lb braid and crank up the drag. I try hard to never have slack in the line. Use a net or reach into the water, unless it's a dink.
  14. 4.5 gold willow and silver Colorado, jc special and white/silver, if that's what you are asking.
  15. Bought some 3/8 Booyah Covert spinnerbaits with 4.5 blades, checked the weight as that's how I store mine and found they are really 5/8 oz. Is 3/8 just the jig head?
  16. We don't get many door to door sales folks, once in a while a solar guy, or one of the "while we're in the neighborhood sealing driveways" folks. What I do see is the panhandlers at exits of parking lots or corners looking for a handout. I always wonder if their BMW is parked in the lot. Have seen the same woman a couple times this summer with 2 small girls, looking you in the eye with praying hands and mouthing "please", pretty effective, sincere or not.
  17. Lived in Omaha during the 70's and early 80's, nothing like Huskers vs the Sooners weekend.
  18. If it'd keep people away from my fav ponds I'd do it too.
  19. What is it?
  20. Not me. I toss out whatever and refill when I get home. Closest I get if putting whatever I want on the ends of the line, sometimes add or remove a leader depending on the water the night before fishing. Can't call it satisfying, its just something that needs to be done.
  21. I was surprised and disappointed to see the lack of anti reverse on the Stradic CI4 when I got it, I don't even notice it now and have stopped using it on my Stradics, just cause I don't think of it. I have no idea why they did away with it, but to me it no longer matters. I've been considering a Vanford for the weight savings over the Stradic FL, the Tatula LT is about the same as the Vanford.
  22. Nope, I just say no thanks and close the door. Same goes for the religious folks who show up occasionally.
  23. They look an awful lot like my TackleDirect piers.
  24. Got curious and Googled "how long can you keep a bass out of the water without harm". A quick scan of the 1st page of hits shows answers ranging from 30 seconds to 20 minutes. Now I just have to Google who to believe.
  25. Something like these? Cup Holder
