  1. Thanks folks, I'll take a ride to Wallyworld and see what they have in 15ish lb mono.
  2. I have little experience with a BC setup although I own one that was given to me a couple years ago. I'm thinking of setting it up to use for fishing weed cover using something like 12-3/4 oz baits. I'm hoping it may improve some issues I'm having with arthritis in the knuckles with heavier spinning gear, time will tell. So anyway, the reel, and Abu Garcia RV03 PRM-1 (Revo Premier I believe) has very little line on it, looks like maybe 10-15 lb, Mono with braid backing, yes, that's mono or flouro over the braid. It's on a SC M/H 6'6" Premier. I fish from mostly a solo canoe and once in a while from a Bass Ranger plastic pontoon job if it matters. Can someone suggest line size that would work for this situation but may be forgiving to a rookie, if such exists. On a BC reel is mono easier to learn with then braid or vice versa? On hand I have these if any will do the trick. 10 lb 832 15 and 20 lb Power Pro and some 12 lb Trilene, age unknown. I just use it as backing these days. Thanks
  3. I've only used mine a half dozen times, 1st year with it. I did not do a lot of mods, taking the I'll see what I need as I go idea. So far... anchor rope cleat Clips for the kayak paddle Foam for floor 4" Stair tread Anti Slip Tape for the motor mount areas. After getting hung up on a rock I reversed the TM head so I could see where I'm going better. Harder for me to steer but I can see in the water now. If I go from zero to maybe 75% power the motor lifts, sliding up the aluminum. Little waterproof container attached to the seat and tucked into the seats rear pouch, holds the registration. Modified a cheap battery box with an accurate state of charge monitor. That's really it. I would like to come up with a way to stash the rods horizontally on the sides, just haven't done it yet, I'd rather fish then spend my time modifying. Been thinking on a couple Scotty rod holders but I really don't what more crap getting in my way when I'm fishing, so, so far this is just something I'm rolling around in my head. Could also use something to hold my coffee cup, With it on the side in those shallow drink holders I keep knocking it over. Won't be long till I lose it overboard.
  4. I have no problem cutting the line for a gut hooked fish when using something fairly cheap like a T rig, I'd probably thinkhtwice if it were a $7 crank.
  5. Would one be correct in assuming that for a given price point, most or all major reel brands will have similar reels? for example a $200 Shimano and a $200 Abu will both feel very similar. Kind of like buying suv's.
  6. Same here, I have no need to try another brand. I have tried a couple other brands in years past that didn't compare. To expensive to experiment.
  7. I did a search on my Tidemaster, which I thought was long discontinued. It tuned up at this site in Canada. If it's really still available it might fit the bill, not cheap, if you can find it in the USA. https://latulippe.com/en/product/512535/tidemaster-inshore-travel-spinning-rod/
  8. I don't see anything over 7'.
  9. 10" worms (black PowerBait) is one of the few baits that don't work for me, just worked with them for an hour or so earlier this week. I'm throwing along the weed lines and not even getting a nibble on a pond that has many big pickerel. No idea what I'm doing wrong but they just don't work for me here in the western part of the state. I fish weeded up ponds under 100 acres. Can't get a hit on a chatter bait either.
  10. When I read this, and again just now, the word "not" did not register. Thanks, I can forget tungten spinnerbaits.
  11. No sweat, I'll go with Eco Pro's if nothing else comes up.
  12. No lead allowed in Ma. Another well planned out idea. The titanium spinnerbaits I looked at still had lead heads
  13. Does anyone have experience with tungsten spinnerbaits? if so what brand are you using? The only ones I can find are Eco Pro, not a lot of choices.
  14. Don't know if it's the same for a loaded kayak but I have a Bass Raider that I carry in the 8' bed of my F150 4x4, fits fine. The issue I have is lifting it high enough to get it started on the tailgate, very awkward position. A trailer would solve this as they are lower, but I really don't want to deal with a trailer. For now I use a pair of 2x4 ramps when I'm alone, much better.

I go without but have tried them just cause folks say you should, I see no difference, just another thing to pickup weeds to me.

  17. For short runs I fit the rods in the cab as specified above. For long term, I keep a couple 2 pc rods on the floor in the back seat. One time I put a couple rods in the bed for a short ride, didn't think about the small cooler sliding around and breaking the tip on one. Never again.

If you want to take a trip to Cape Cod, the Welfleet Oysterfest is in OctotbeR.
  19. Have you been to a Broadway show? Nothing realistic about them but very entertaining.
  20. Built one for a canoe a while back. Used a set of old golf cart wheels from the dump, 3 foot of threaded rod, emt, pipe insulation, misc nuts, emt connector, and a strap. Need a pipe bender. Don't have it anymore so no pictures.
  21. I tried most of the ideas mentioned above with limited results at best. I ended up doing the grub killer for a couple years, by the way, they like worms best, then running over the tunnels with the tractor every day. After awhile they moved on to the neighbors. Had a cat years ago that would sit on the picnic table watching for them, caught way more then I did. Skunks are worse.
  22. Which is good as one nears 70.
  23. Not quite the same but I run a 55 MK on a Bass Raider with a 100Ah lithium, I fish for about 6 hrs at a clip, mostly slow trolling or stopped, maybe 1 trip around a 200 acre pond. I use less then 10%, or 10ah worth of juice. In hind sight I could have easily gotten away with a 50ah battery and saved half the $ and weight.. Your kayak is a lot more aerodynamic then my tub.
  24. Thanks all, appreciate the replies. I'll take a ride down to Cabela's next week and see what they have on hand of wehat has been mentioned. Looks to be a bad time to try and get many of these, supplies look to be short.
