  1. Hey guys, Ive been fishing wacky rigged with some decent success as of late. Ive just been using *** and senkos 5" baits. Has anyone experimented with other (bigger) worms? I have some big 9-10" worms (which i call snakes because they look so big to me!). Would these work using a wacky rig? Would this help attract bigger fish, or is the presentation too big? Thanks!
  2. Hey All, Ive been doing a lot of worm fishing recently. Ive been having a lot of success fishing texas and wacky rigged, casting and letting the worm fall on slack line. I look for a few ticks in the line to see if a fish is hitting it. They will also sometimes just pick up the bait and you can see the line starting to get tight. Both of these situations i have no problem with. With that in mind, i started asking myself today...what if a fish decides to pick up my worm and start to swim to me? Its on slack line, so you wouldnt see a pull or anything unusual in the line. The only odd movement you could possibly see is maybe the line moving slightly left or right. My question to you all is how often does this situation happen? How can you tell a bass has your worm, but is swiming back at you? Thanks!
  3. My buddy and i got 9 bass between 2.5 and 3lbs in central mass this weekend. We got 3 on a bucktail jig, 2 on a wacky rigged senko, 3 on a sluggo and 1 on a swim senko...all real nice fish in probably 1-5 feet of water... Ive just started fishing jigs and all i can say is give them a shot!
  4. Good buy to get last years model for $89? Or would it have been worth the extra $70 for the new model?
  5. Always a good time to get in a day of fishing exposure in Feb not involving ice! I wish there were more tackle shops, and lure making companies, those are the best booths by far, seemed like there were a little less of them this year. There are some booths there that are wasted space though, like the people selling windows, or the comcast booth. Anyone go to the springfield show, what do you think of that one?
  6. Thanks! Any big differences between last years model, and this years?
  7. Was this a good buy, and does anyone know the difference between the pti and pt?
  8. What's the difference between the pti a reels, and quantum energy PT? Is last years model a pti, and this year is pt? What do you guys think of these reels, I just ordered a PTI A from Cabela's for $89.
  9. Daiwa Exceler baitcaster. I found a pretty good deal on them, $60. Has anyone used this reel before, and what do you guys think?
  10. Ive fished A1 out of a jon boat with a trolling motor...you need to have someone off the front of the boat with a paddle kind of directing you off of stumps. We got stuck on a few stumps, but you can get off easily. Ive never seen anything bigger than a jon boat in there...I have a 17' boat and i would never think about launching it there. The fishing aint bad though!
  11. Thanks for the replies guys! Ill be on the lookout in Feb when i hit my local fishing expo
  12. Whats your thoughts on what day to go? I think that it would be best to go early (Friday) during the day to beat the crowds and to make sure no one is out of stock of certain items. Tin in a previous post said there are some deals to be had due to vendors trying to dump extra inventory. I dont know, i guess its personal preference...
  13. Hi guys. As i started to get into fishing a year or 2 ago, i got a couple of general purpose rods. I currently have the these setups: 1. St Croix Avid 6' M spinning w/ a diawa capricorn reel 2. 6'6" MH Grandt casting w/ a shimano citica 200d Now that i am starting to get into specific techniques that i like, etc., I am finding myself wanting a few specialized setups. I typically fish soft plastics (75% of the time), and spinnerbaits/crankbaits the other. I am having a difficult time selecting my next rig. Since i am fishing plastics quite a bit, im looking for a M or MH rod with a fast tip. My dillema is if i get a fast tip rod, what can i use my avid for? can i still use this for cranks and spinnerbaits? I feel like this is a little too small for that... I guess my issue is that i dont want to get a new setup and have one of these rods collecting dust, because they are both really nice setups...any guidance? Thanks
  14. Yeah, my brother talked to Ish last year when he was in Worcester...he was a nice guy. Also, if you go at the right time then the crowds arent too bad, but that usually means that you need to go when people are working which probably means you need to get out of work for the afternoon...
  15. All these people with boats and no suggestions??? geez ;D
  16. I am looking into finally getting a nice fish finder for my boat. Its time to upgrade my old one off of the bow. My thought so far is the Humminbird 363 GPS/Fish finder, as the GPS and being able to mark your favorite spots/structure would be a very nice feature. Especially since i will be fishing many different and unfamiliar lakes. Are there any other ideas/suggestions out there for under $300? Ive been reading as many reviews as i can find, but would like to hear some input from some boaters on here. Thanks!
  17. Wow, i just read the links that Catt posted. I bought a boat over a year ago and its a big transition from fishing from the shore. I have been trying to find some reading as to how to use my fish finder and look for structure. These articles (especially the second link) has really opened my eyes...Thanks for sharing Catt! As i have gradually started learning, i cant just keep pounding the shore line with my boat, like i did when i first got it . Great articles like this really help me understand how to fish new areas i am unfamiliar with more effectively.
  18. I almost forgot, every fishing show imaginable (which never helps), reading articles, and heavily hitting the Resource!
  19. Occasional ice fishing trips, and winter hockey take up some time, but not even close to enough. The other time, and money, is spent getting thrashed by the bait monkey.
  20. Order from somewhere else online, if their online sales are making up for lack of sales in stores somewhat, then what's their motivation to spend money delivering to stores and holding inventory? If their online sales slack a bit, they have to go back to the stores.
  21. MD, when you troll around looking at your electronics what makes you decide whether or not it looks like a productive area? You said sometimes you will check it out and leave, or stay to fish it. If anyone else has input that would be great too!
  22. GMAN, what's the setup in your picture on here? I'm sure it's a gman jig, but which type, and what kind of trailer?
  23. Maybe having educational marketing pieces for sport fisherman on the value of catch and release would make more sense, and be a feasible idea. I like how you're thinking though, make those 10 lbers 15's!
  24. good choice! The avids are great rods, you will enjoy! Too bad you can't go jiggin in a race hole with it up in NH.
