  2. I woulda packed up and gone home before weighing that in
  3. Me too, I two pole permit it. The DFG was going to raise it 20% but it is now being pushed for 15%. Got mine on the 5th of Jan.
  4. So this winter I've been doing a lot of reading about bass habitats and living conditions, and I'd like to maybe help some of us by my findings/ Before even picking up my rod I am going to pay much more attention to the Fish Finder enroute to my location. It does me no good to have a particular area to fish if I don't know what depth the fish are at. After thinking about last year I spent so much time fishing waters I knew "might" be holding bass but didn't pay much attention to the FF on my way to where I was going to fish. It also doen't do any good to be fishing the right lure at the wrong depth. I think depth is going to be key this year in helping me locate fish much faster. I am not saying that if you see suspending fish in 20-25 water that I'm gonna stop the boat and fish for those fish. You can use the general information you gather, to then target the areas in a more precise area. Example: If you are enroute to a creek and you are leaving the launch I would probably take 5 or so minutes just watching the graph. If you are traveling over structure at 10-15 deep and don't see any fish I would then assume that fish are probably deeper or shallower depending on the time of year. If you are starting to see fish suspending at a certain depth then target the structure that is within close proximity to that suspended fish. Any thoughts, does anyone use this strategy? I just think that concentrating on the depth, rather than targeting areas you think or know in the past have held fish will give a much better chance of finding fish a little easier.
  5. Fatties! I don't think there is anything better than a healthy and fat looking smallie!
  6. I hear ya! Great looking fish
  7. Have it set on the DVR... YAY!
  8. I start fishing our area when the top water is around 40-45. I will be targeting structure around 15-25 feet. Once top water hits 50-55 I start heading up into flats
  9. If you are looking to expand into Idaho? let me know I know about 15-20 lakes/rivers/ponds within that drive. Probably some more into 1.5 hours but still worth the drive.
  10. If I had a spot where I caught two fish like that at the same time I would probably photoshop the background blue as well. Nice fish! X2
  11. Great Fish and great day!
  12. Don't really know... I will be bringing 8lb and 12 lb yo-zuri flouro and will have two reels with braid.
  13. No Problem. I'm just trying to do as much research as I can about east coast fishing, especially shad. We have schooling bait here but it seems that its nothing like the "Shad" bite. Can't wait to get some real insight later
  14. I know there are people like myself who have not been to Kentucky Lake. I found this video with KVD fishing Kentucky Lake trying to find info. It gives some info on the lake and a couple good techniques. Enjoy! http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CFPageC?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&template=video.cfm&cat=Fishing&subCatID=14&connectionSpeed=broadband&videoID=107&startRow=0&videoType=prodcutdemo&option=2&cmid=OLPHVIDEO_107_HIGH
  15. I also sail during the summer time and I also would recommend the mustang. Here is some info. They are spendy but well worth the money. Mustang Survival Inflatable Vest w/ L.I.F.T. PFD The Inflatable Vest with LIFT PFD, featured in the Mustang OCX line, delivers a high level of safety for users in variable wind and wave conditions by elevating the wearers mouth out of the water by up to 9 inches (23cm). Known as freeboard, this increase in elevation has been shown to reduce underwater mouth immersions by 80%, increasing the chance of survival in accidental immersion situations. The LIFT System LIFT [Life-saving Inflatable Flotation Technology] is a revolutionary flotation cell system, designed to lift you out of the water, & keep you there. By elevating the body & maintaining an upright position, LIFT ensures that you're less likely to swallow water caused by rough seas & chop. And by keeping more of you out of the water, it delays hypothermia. The LIFT cell design delivers over 40 pounds of buoyancy & about 9" of freeboard (distance between the water's surface & your mouth) the highest ever seen in a PFD. LIFT is light, comfortable, & ergonomically designed. You can't even tell you're wearing it until you need it. A perfect product fit for performance sailors and power boaters, the Inflatable Vest with LIFT PFD is also an excellent choice for individuals who desire added protection. Constructed with a highly durable wind and waterproof fabric, the vest is a lightweight product designed with a shorter length and a low and flexible profile ensuring users maximum mobility during even the most rigorous activities. A removable sailing harness is available for purchase separately (see below). MD0450 Hammar 1F Hydrostatic Automatic Inflation The hydrostatic inflator needs only to be submerged 4 inches (10 cm) for the hydrostatic pressure to open a pressure valve releasing a firing mechanism, automatically inflating the PFD or when wearer pulls activation cord.
  16. A great bass fisherman in my mind are determined by two aspects: 1. What have you done for the sport. Do you go out of your way to help those not aware and help them define and improve their tactics and strategies. If someone you know or not know by that matter is having a tough time do you go out of your way to help them out? I think someone that goes out of their way to help someone out in any matter, take a friends kid fishing, someone at the dock is having trouble catch fish, etc... 2. If you can go to any body of water and catch fish with different surroundings, strategies, and water water conditions. I think I would more lean toward the helping other people out with your knowledge is more important.
  17. On the other hand, candle parties, make-up parties, tupperware parties and girls-night out are my best friends Wife: "Honey we are having a party here tonight I need you to be gone for a couple hours" Me: "Oh I totally forgot. I was thinkin we might have stayed in and had a date night" Wife: "Well maybe we can do that later this week" Ok: "Ok, Well I'll let you have fun" What she doesn't know... The truck is already filled with the gear and rods from the morning of. lol
  18. Agreed... We have finally had 35-40 degree weather for about a week now. Ice went from being 16-18 inches down to about 12-14. Thats what gets my heart pumping. I've tried last weekend fishing in kayak on the outside of the ice where thawed and absolutely killed them. Sure felt good to have a bigger rod that a 2 footer, even if it was an ultralight with a bobber and jig I will be throwing spinner bait, cranks and jig/pig.
  19. We aren't supposed to be talking politics here, but since the moderators allowed your comment: I am a Democrat and I hunt, fish, watch NASCAR, drink beer, change my own oil, sing in the choir at church, love my wife and kids, vote, pay taxes, take my hat off and sing the national anthem, and drive a Ford truck. Oh, and I'm a Southern boy (old man, actually). X2 except for the southern Don't have much on anti around here. I'd probably say 50% of people either Deer, elk, moose, mountain lion or bear hunt around my parts. The other half fish. I think everytime I go out fishing everyone asks how the day has been.
