Bass behavior after following rapid water level rise.
I can’t say how this works for lakes but, I live and die by this for rivers. Even going up into creeks 50-100 yards if possible is prime. It also helps finding clearer water when the creeks are slowing down but the river is pushing hard. It creates back feed into the creeks. It also tends to become community spots. Walleye, musky, catfish, and bronze backs all will use these same areas.

MLF Team Series
It is amazing how some people just can get fish to eat.

Looking back at the 2022 season, what is one thing you want to brag about?
It’s that most part that scares me haha. I’ve seen videos of people reeling in fish and then coming after them. I don’t know how often that happens but, I’d rather it not. I guess the bright side is they are all eyes on the fish at that point.

Man that would drive me insane living down there. I just have to dodge rocks and gravel bars.

Looking back at the 2022 season, what is one thing you want to brag about?
I used to average 2-3 a trip. About a dozen follows a trip. The last couple years it went to almost no follows and 3 fish a year. I have some very good guesses as to why. Everyone that fished around here for them started going 3-4 hours away for them unless they had a certain a technology on their boats. I know what it’s like to fish for them out of state knowing very little about the bodies of water and doing very well at them. I’m glad you got on a great pattern. I wish I could go back to the hay days here.

Those are some beautiful fall fatties! That catch ratio is also why I ended up at these forums and refuse to fish for musky in my state anymore.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
River asked me to post this. Since he doesn’t have any thumbs I said I would. Happy new year everyone!

I can’t honestly say I have anything to brag about. I didn’t do anything “wow”. I did stay safe though. To me that’s the most important.

I’ll allow it haha

2023, your first catch picture of the new year.
Half the susky was rolling ice on Thursday. The other half was open. I am hoping/thinking it should be cleared out mostly by now. When I bought my new fishing license the owner at the bait shop said people were ice fishing.

2023, your first catch picture of the new year.
With 2023 approaching us quickly, I wanted to start a thread for everyone to post their first bass of 2023. Big or small show it off proudly! Let’s get the new year fishing monkey off our backs. I am getting out on the susky tomorrow and Monday. Hopefully I can contribute to this sooner rather than later.

Baits that work for you that others have not heard of?
Those things freak me out. I also know they are smallmouth candy Yeah, I would say so! I also guess it’s because of the frequency I fish them. My one buddy and I had a joke because we caught so many on the same TRD worm without changing it. “my ned don’t ned no more” it just kind of stuck.

Your License(s) Costs
I am about an 1.5 a little more depending on traffic from Philly. It’s a whole different world here than Philly area most times. We used to almost always ride motocross in Wilmington, DE all winter because it stayed more mild there. Weather is determined here by the mountain. Not as bad as NW pa though. You can keep that. @GaryH

New Years, goals, ect.
I would like to learn a new different section of my river better. This will be level dependent. I would like to learn a lake as well. I want to help whoever fishes in my boat with me to catch more fish. I am not a wealth of knowledge. Even if I am catching fish and they aren’t I don’t really tell them what I’m doing. I do not like to sound cocky, bossy or a know it all and tell people how they should be fishing. So I just let them do their thing. I want to find that happy medium of a helping hand. I want to get better at summertime fishing. It seems to be the hardest for me. I would like to learn the drop shot. As far as my goals outside of fishing I want to stay level headed. I want to continue my weight loss. There is a few things yet I want to train/help my rescue dog overcome. He has coming a very long way in the 7 months my wife and I have had him. tight lines and stay safe in 2023 everyone!

Lethargic winter bass
You nailed this on the head! Now the 33 degree water I was fishing in Thursday is enough to make them inactive.

MLF Team Series
I would assume it’s a heck of a lot cheaper to air something taped then live. I would think there’s less moving parts etc. for years I used to watch motocross and supercross events days after it really happened. Now most of that airs live.

How much do y’all talk about fishing in your daily life
My wife thinks it’s all the time. Probably to her I do talk about it most the time. At work I really don’t talk about it much unless someone brings it up. My dad and I do talk about it but he’s my main fishing partner.

Top 5 Brown Bass of 2022
Awesome job! Caught a bunch of 3-5 pounders this year. A few right around 6 one over 6. I went out today on the susky. Main river was 33 degrees with ice/ slush flowing down the main channel. I fished a creek mouth that was 36-37 but, got a big ol goose egg for the day.

What section of lake to fish?
Is one end shallow and one end deep? Does one end have more structure and one end have more cover? Where is the bait? Where is the launch? Is the lake long and narrow? Is it wide? When I go to a new body of water I fish it small. I will pick an area I deem to look productive and give it 3-4 hours if I know nothing about it. Really pick it apart. Then I will go to the “B” spot. If there is bait in this areas you are already onto something. Since you are talking about this being your home lake I’d take notes. Break it down small and I caught fish here at this water temp on this bait. Way point it. Write down the way point in your note book with all the info. Do this till you get your “milk run”. This is not an over night process. You won’t always catch lots of fish but, it will show you what worked. Don’t get caught up in the “general rules.” learn to fish your body of water the way it is productive to fish. The more you try to run here there and everywhere on the water, the less you are fishing and learning.
