Will 9.9 kicker work on this. Please help!
What hp is the boat rated for, if your already at max then probably to much weight. Are you looking at a four stroke or two stroke...big weight difference...is your current 40 hp a 2 or a 4 stroke ?? Lots of things to consider here.

Eyeopening Trip to Bass Pro Shop
Unfortunately there are to many that choose free handouts over working and are taking advantage of peoples generous attitudes !! People are being trained to not work for what you have or want. Becomming difficult to tell who really needs and who just wants.

Do you lap your scope rings?
About 30 years back I switched to a one piece "Spirts Match rings and have never looked back. Never an alignment issue nor a slipping issue. Used by many special force, swat and other professional organizations. Mounted at least a hundred over these 30 years and never an issue

Eyeopening Trip to Bass Pro Shop
People wont take a 20 plus dollar an hour job, but they will sit in line for an hour at a food line to get free handouts... Look on the news, look at the lines of folks waiting for some type of handout designed for the poor, see how many new cars at 40K plus are in line...

New Trolling motor
Keep in mind that if you have a problem with your new motor, who is going to take care of it ??? You will get far better after the sale service from a brick and mortar store...with cheap mail order, you will need to take it off, box it back up, probably in the original packaging, send it back and wait weeks or more to get an exchange unit ( reman unit) that you will have to remount and start over !! Sometimes it is better to spend a few extra dollars just in case!!

Battery Charging
On my boat, I have a seperate charger for each of three batteries...each charger plug (110v) plugs into a (120v) receptical port on a heavy duty extension cord, then the plug for that cord is behind a hinged cover. When I am done for the day, I have one plug to plug into household current to run all three chargers. My chargers are also maintainers, which help add life to the batteries. No fuss, no muss, and chargers are not that expensive!!!

Folding trailer tongues
They make kits to change your straight tongue into a folding tongue trailer. They come in various tongue sizes and lengths.. They can vary in foldable length, I have saw from 16" to 36" so check different mfgrs.

Spare tire mount?
Experience has shown me to never tow a trailer with having a spare !! The only time I have ever needed a spare is when I didnt have one!!! By carrying a spare on every trailer, it keeps me from having a flat !!

Certain Console switches not working
Yes glad you found the issues!! I was about to suggest critters chewing on your wires over winter storage!! Being a boat around water, electrical connections can do wierd things!!!

PSA - Charge the Emergency Start
Dual purpose batteries are a compromise between deep cycle and a start battery. For that reason they do both jobs well...but not as good as individual batteries designed for a particular purpose. Just check the battery specs and compare. To get max life expectency and amp draw use a battery specific for the job at hand.

Spare tire mount?
Once you get a spare, make sure you have a way to lock it!! Many spares end up missing as there are many that dont carry one!!

Boat return?????
Buyer beware...unfortunate but that is the way it is!! Unless you have something in writing, not much you can do. Being a 2017, sounds like you bought it used.
-
PSA - Charge the Emergency Start
Deep cycle lasts much longer, along with gps is bilge pump, lights, radio both music and SS, and everything except starter. Can run run the deep cycle down to 50% but a starting battery should not run down more than 20-30%..

Joining the 'real' boat crowd
Hopefully your using plywood to make it thicker for rhe motor to clamp on!!!! Unfortunately have witnessed clampon motors going for a swim if not biting into some wood to keep them in place!!

Glass boats and wind vs aluminum
Probably not, but according to insurance stats, they are still far more likely to have a complete loss, thus higher insurance costs by a substantial amount. Even modern glass boats still shatter on impact. Having experienced a severe impact makes me more concerned than others might be...

To buy or not to buy, that is the question.
A neighbor down the road has a small nice little bass boat parked in his garage, has had it for many years, nice boat, probably worth less than 10K in todays market. He recently bought a fancy new truck, loaded, the window sticker was well over 80K !!! He leaves his new truck parked outside and his far less valuable boat in his garage, according to him, the boat is " far more valuable" to him.........

PSA - Charge the Emergency Start
Lucky you figured it out....I run one battery dedicated to the main engine and another deep cycle dedicated to the electronics only, finally a pair of dedicated trolling motor batteries. Then I carry a set of jumper cables, if any start or house battery fails. No need for an energency pack with all the batteries I have on board. I often forget about plugging mine in when I park it back in the barn. I did make myself a sign over the winter to remind myself to plug in when I get home....the old memory is not as sharp as it once was !!!

To buy or not to buy, that is the question.
How true...I have also veen a boat owner since age 12, currently 73.. still a boat owner !! Thru these many years, my boats have been rowboats, kayaks, speed boats, small cabin cruisers, back to canoe, jon boat etc. While always having a boat, sometimes it was a bare minimum boat.. Never bought a new one, most always sold them for more than I paid for them, never afraid to buy fixerups, whatever I could afford. Only once in my life did I ever get a bank loan for a boat and then I paid off a three year loan in one year. For more than 25 years, I also worked three jobs to help pay for my toys and put braces on my kids teeth. Couldn' t be without a boat, but willing to cut back to whatever boat I can afford at the time. Never been a "keep up with the Jonses" kind of person...also haven't had to visit the poor house !!

Glass boats and wind vs aluminum
In my area I use craigslist and market place, I dont do the social media but the grandkids do, so they use their social depts to look for me. Hunted fir over three months to finf my current 16' Sylvan, and yes drive over two hundred miles each way! Once I found what I wanted, I dropped everything and hit the road cash in hand. Owner held it for me knowing I was enroute. Had three others waiting for me to decide when I got there!!! Neighbor bought his the same way four years back, hit the road with cash in hand or it will be gone...especially if it is really a nice one !!

Music on your boat ?
My boat came with a sterio system, nothing fancy but doesn't sound to bad...I rarely use it !!! If we go out for fireworks then the radio is snyc'd to the fireworks, if on a lazy cruise we might have it on, fishing...rarely unless I need a weather update or want to listen to the nascar race. Have had a radio in most of my boats but only rarely do they get used.....

Glass boats and wind vs aluminum
Do your research and find a boat that suits your needs and wants. Whether glass or aluminum really is up to the owner!! As long as the boat suits your fancy and you enjoy it...go for it !! Many pro's and cons for both, so you wont go wrong with either. Keep us posted on what you decide....

Thinking of selling my kayak
Depending on your interests it might be. I downsized to a 16' Sylvan alum side console from a bigger cuddy cabin due to wifes health issues. She can no longer boat due to back issues so most of my boating is by myself. I to sold my Kayak a few years back, enjoyed it but at 72, goung by myself probably wasn't smart. My 16' can easily be launched abdvretrieved by myself without much effort. Gotta get the trailer set up properly!! Being alum it can be towed by small vehicles. The Tracker line makes some nice boats, my neighbor has one, very similiar to my Sylvan... I fish about 50-60% of my time on the water, but also enjoy a nice ride/ cruise, mabey even a fast ride as my boat does over 30 mph, it sort of brings out the kid in me, so having a fishing boat and a sports car type boat satisfies my wants and needs. Loved my Kayak but interests and life itself changes, so gotta go with the flow...and what works...

Have you checked out the specs on this NEW engine yet?
Yes, I see how expensive things have gotten, no wonder the average worker is in deep debt, with prices rising faster than income, what lies ahead?? Just making a point that to some or mavey many of us the new technology may not be worth the cost !! New vehickes are suppised to save you money, so the claims are being made, but are they really ?? Sorry if I ticked on anyones parade, by the way I am 73 sorry no kids at age 12 !!

Have you checked out the specs on this NEW engine yet?
I would never hesitate to but a Suzuki, not calling them bad in any way.... Just a reference to all new high priced outboards !! When I graduated HS, I had a good job and bought my self a new car, a hotrod, loaded with everything, performance engine and you name it...4800.00 out the door. Dropped of my grandson and his car for service, so thought I would browse, window shop at a similiar car compared to my first new one.. 78000.00. !!!! I was making good money back then at 5 bucks an hour, above avg pay....today I would need over 80 per hour to compete!! Back then a full service, lube, oil filter and std tuneup was about 70.00. According to my grandson's car service mgr, that average service today is about 800.00.... Nothing wrong with new technology but at what price???
