  10. SK, I've got the 176XT (2007) with the 70 Yammie. I moved the standard DF to the bow & put a Lowrance 522c at the console. The reason for the choice? Fit it the garage. I'm not a tournament angler so the 36mph top end is OK for my use. Stability is great. I do wish it held more than 2 7' rods in the locker. It's not a super rough water boat, theo the day I test drove it on E Lake Toho it was blowing 25 from the east and the boat handled it very well. Mama was comfortable with the ride so that settled it.(Bear in mind that I've got 25 yrs experience on the ocean as a licensed Captain power & sail Boston to Argentina Great lakes etc. What I'm trying to say is that there is no substitute for experience + common sense. Overall I'm quite satisfied with the boat. If you want more info PM me.
  11. Life lesson's have taught me to support local business. (Survivor Hurricanes Andrew, Charlie and a few others since 1971). Granted, if the service isn't there. then maybe they should close the doors. Economics - Why spend $7.50 in extra fuel to save $2.50 on a single lure? Duh... Not to say that if I can save $50 by driving to the big box stores I won't do it. Supply side. Sometimes the Big Box Stores will have something the local shop doesn't. But for me, if it can wait til I have a list big enough to make it worthwhile then I'll shop BPS. Gander isn't so much a problem. 1.) Local Tackle Shop 6.1 mi < $2.5 fuel 2.) Gander Mtn 13.6 mi $5 Fuel 3.) Bass Pro Shops 27.6 mi $10 fuel Last year 3/4 of my tackle money went to the local tackle shop. not to mention that the local shop has a vested interest in my success these people actually care and know what they are talking about. if they don't know they have the integrity to say they don't know. Guess I'm just lucky to live close to Bitter's. (Shameless plug) I'm not old, I'm vintage
  12. Merry Christmas
  13. sqhertz: I've been using Cocoons for several years now and find no fault with them. I wear tri-focals. check them out the next time you're in BPS.
  14. And mop up they will. We had about 50 of them establish residence on one of our small local lakes last winter for about 2 weeks. That's all it took them to decimate the local shiner population. Before the birds a single cast of the net would produce 50 - 150 BIG shiners. It's now it's almost a year ago and we still can't get 10 shiners in a cast. The good news tho is that they (the shiners) are making a comeback as long as the birds will stay away. To top it off, they sprayed the lake and killed every bit of vegetation in it. there was little cover in the way of trees etc to begin with but once the hydrilla & lily pads were was gone things got really tough. The healthy population of large bass (>5#) is still there, but much more difficult to locate. "Gangley" Egrets are a different bird altogether. they are wading birds and mostly will eat small minnows etc where ever they can wade. Tight Lines
  15. Wow! great fish Simeon. Hat's off to you.
  16. 20# & below = Suffix 50# & above Power Pro
  17. By the very wording of the question, the word "cheating" implies that there are rules or laws in effect. So let's see... We have State, county & or city laws. We have private property rules & tournament rules. And we have our own moral rules, I think that about covers it. I guess if you're not breaking one of these laws or rules then you're not cheating. Do I understand the question properly?
