BFS Rod
Let you know how the Falcon rod performs, won’t be as crisp and have the power curve as a JDM rod. Appricate everyone’s efforts😀 Tom

Bed Fish Question.
Male bass will generally return to it’s bed site, females often lay eggs in multiple beds at different time periods so who knows where that bass may go. Do bass generally return to the same spawning area, some do. Tom

Thank you! When trying to order nothing is currently in stock. Ordered the new Falcon BSF rod should be OK? Tom

Giving fluoro a fair shot
I started using Sunline Shooter FC in the early 90’s from a tip from a young Aaron Martens, Trout Supply in Florida sold 200 meter spools. I really like the Shooter FC until random failures that never were solved by trying every brand known to man. Tom

Giving fluoro a fair shot
Straight Mono, FC or Braid no leaders. Tried leaders using spinning outfits to reduce line twist as a back seater, works but worry about 2 knots on big bass. Going to give BSF combo a try to use straight Max UG 5 lb copoly line for light lures to eliminate 2 knots. Tom

The 7’3” Karodai looks perfect! Is this rod available? Tom

Was it me or conditions?
water temperature was the key thing answering your question plus a few Crappie. The are in pre spawn and the rising water level flooded their original spawn sites. The male bass more then likely were looking for new water near the original area, the Crappie were starting to spawn in the new flooded brush but not in numbers, the females were probably fallen back to deeper pre spawn areas along ledges etc. Timing is everything during these conditions and locating baitfish mandatory. What did I do wrong?
The front treble hook cuts the line you loose 12’ of line with a 7’ rod. Jusr trying help out! Tom

Old Gear Causing Injuries?
Super tuned vintage Ambassador 2500C can cast lures just a far as the newer bait casting reels. If your buddy has one in his collection offer to send out to a vintage reel expert, don’t know if Mike at DVL does those? Casting distance is all about rod tip launching the lure not arm speed, it’s all in the wrist. The thumb should end up between 9 to 10 o’clock for right handed caster not at 12 o’clock! Tom

Carolina Rig and Palomar knots.
Palomar knot main line to swivel, Palomar knot leader to swivel pulling the leader through the loop then Palomar knot to the hook. It’s possible but why? Tom
-
What did I do wrong?
More than likely the lures treble hook out barb cut the line when the lure was stored on the rod. Lure wraps help prevent hook barbs cutting line stored on rods. Tom

Carolina Rig and Palomar knots.
San Diego jam knot is easy to tie, strong and reliable. Tom

Carolina Rig and Palomar knots.
The original braid knot in the 50’s was a double line clinch knot now called….take pick it has several names!

Confusion about t-rigging hooks
I my 70+ years of bass fishing with soft plastics the highest % of hook set to landing bass is using the straight shank round bend hooks skin hooked. EWG hooks work with extra thick/fat body soft plastics otherwise the straight round bend is all I use, with 2 exceptions; Owner #5133 down shoot off set hook for weed less drop and slip sot rigs and Jungle weedkess wacky hook for wacky rigs. Trolling motor batteries
Just repeating the Solid State statement of facts “no fire”. Good for boaters. Do kayaks carry fire extinguishers, most have lithium batteries to save weight. Tom PS, happy farther day👍

Trolling motor batteries
When lithium LiFeP04 came out a decade ago they were expensive and offer 1/2 the weight and 2X the battery life then AGM’s. Down besides cost was new onboard charger was needed and questionable cranking power. Today a new technology has arrived Marine Solid State batteries offering 1/2 the weight of LiFeP04 lithium batteries, no fire, 2X the runtime of lithium batteries plus longer life! Down is cost! Sound familiar! Tom

Casting Reel Question
The issue with Ambassadors is the level wind doesn’t disengage during the cast creating too much line drag with small diameter braid, plus the spool is too deep for the line. There are shallow spools available or you can simply strip off 50-60 yards of raid and tape over the spooled braid with plumbers Teflon tape to prevent the under line loosening. Wind the 50-60 yards braid back. .012 diameter braid would also help. Tom

Is fluoro leader to braided mainline a bad idea for me?
Using a spinning outfit for a wide variety of lures/presentations will create line twist because the spinning reel wraps line onto a stationary spool, can’t avoid it without adding a swivel. With a boat it’s easy to manage line twist by untwisting the line after each use by running the line behind the boat at slow speed without anything tied on. Fluorocarbon line has more memory then mono and braid has very little memory so line twist doesn’t affect braid like it does FC and mono. The down side of using braid with a leader is 2 knots; braid to leader and leader to the lure or hook. Bass are not necessarily line shy fish compared to trout for example, line diameter is more important to lure action and casting performance. The issue with straight braid on spinning outfits is line strength is very high compared to equal diameter FC or mono line. Snag the lure with straight braid very difficult to break the line! A leader becomes the weak link and easier to break off if needed. IMO mono line is a better leader line then FC due to higher knot strength and abrasion resistance. How long you make the leader is up to the user, most anglers keep the leader knot between the reel bail and 1st rod guide. Tom PS, a little line control when casting lures prevents helicoptering in mid flight tangling treble hooks in the loose line.

Anyone fish roboworms?
The original Robotic “hand pour” machine was intended to sell for hand pours in SoCal area but Greg Stumph soon learned the market for the Roboworms over whelmed the production of the machines and started his worm business instead. Roboworms are extremely consistent in texture and colors and soon took over the hand pour worm business. Tom

DO YOU USE SCROUNGERS.......DO YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT THEY ARE???
Have been fishing Scroungers since the early 80’s when Sluggo’s 1st came out. The original Scrounger was trade named and invented by local salt water surf fisherman John Walters in the early 70’s and packaged with a soft plastic spear worm. The 1st Scroungers had a smaller size zinc plated hook that I ended up straightening out and tying a 6/0 round gap worm hook onto using tightly wrapped mono and super glue, worked good for Sluggo trailer. My modified Scroungers were 3/4 oz with trout color 6” Sluggo, caught lots of DD size LMB using for a few years before the word got out. Still use the Scroungers! The bill helps the Scroungers go though crush cover without snagging and can be at nearly any depth. Vary speed until you find a cadence that works. If you feel bumps speed up! Tom

Trolling motor batteries
Replace both batteries so they are the same brand and age. The weak battery will drag down the stronger battery, weak link in the chain! Make sure you clean the battery posts and terminals then retest under load. Tom PS, Harbor Freight has a good inexpensive battery load tester on sale this weekend.
