Fun bass that gave us a tough time! This bass looked over 8 lbs in the water and when she did a head shaking jump looked even bigger. She dove down and rubbed her lips on a rock in the clear water to get the hook out! Jeff did a good lip grip on her and the hook was barely in the lip and fell out! Great time…thank you👍 Tom

Not a fan of hooking a Senko through middle without a o-ring. Reason the Senko gets tossed when fighting a bass. If the bass are 3 lbs use Owner weedless wacky hook size 1*, smaller bass use mosquito hook size 1. The Senko is fat body a mouth full for small bass so the smaller hook works a lot better. Tom #4109 is 2X gap if the size 1 mosquito hook.

What hook are you using and how is it rigged ? Tom

It sounds to me like the trailer needs some work to add side rails to prevent the boat moving to one side. Check the bunks to be the same height and spacing. Add an oversize wide front roller to help align the bow. You can use a longer rope to pull the onto the trailer then clip on the wench straps to finish loading, this may require you to get in the water if no dock is available. Light weight aluminum boats usually aren’t driven on trailers. Tom

Jeff took this old man fishing yesterday😀. We had a good outing although Jeff was up 15 to 1 at one time, then slowly made up some but he ended up a bout 2 to 1, both LMB and Smallmouth. Managed to put a 6.2 in boat using light spinning tackle for big bass of the day. We both caught 3 lb Rainbow trout but no net or cooler. My trout ate a 5” Senko! 1st ever on a Senko. Tom

Before Lamiglas got out of the custom rod business they made all my jig and worm rods for 35 years. When Loomis came out with the NRX series I seriously considered buying them but you had to pay additional $100 for warranty at that time. Contacted my Lamiglas guy and asked who could make an equal rod to NRX using the new 3M Nano resin blanks. Lamiglas referred me to Alex custom rods ( now ALX) and he had 3 new Lamiglas blanks and made 2 ea 6 power and 1 ea 5 power jig and worm rods to my spec similar to NRX build. That was in 2012 and still have the 5 power. The rods weigh 3.8 oz and better IMO the NRX. It’s a shame Lamiglas stopped selling state of the art blanks. The Okuma X series rods are very light weight Toray blank KW guides with Sic inserts and state of the art reel seat. Wirth looking into under $300 Tom

The Okuma rod referenced is what I would buy today if looking for a new jig rod for Horizontal Jigging*. Toray X wrapped light weight rod blank with state of the art guide train and reel seat equal to rods 2X price point. Tom * PM for article.

If the shiners were in a tight school that is protection behavior something was feeding on them. Golden shiners spawn by laying eggs on vegetation or in other fish beds. Tom

You don’t hear about jointed shallow running rats as much today but they are excellent wake baits. Use a rat when they are out and about….sundown. Tom

The thread by the OP was asking favorite lure to use not what catches the most bass. I have been fishing my custom hair jig with pork trailers since 1971 or 54 years and counting because it’s my favorite lure to use. Wooden Sammy is fun to work it’s so lively and it catches big bass. The Micheal popper is a tiny Japanese lure with a great action fun to work and catch’s big bass. All the above are vintage lures that our local bass rarely see and that is another reason I like to use them. Tom

Unless you have the skills to determine which rod is better it’s all personal preference. Everything being equal in regards to price, length, power and action the lighter weight well balanced rod will out perform the other in the hands of someone skilled enough. So how much does each rod weigh? Tom

Doc Samson is good for general 2D sonar interpretation. To get the most out of your sonar run at manual settings to optimize current on the water conditions. Don Iovino’s paper back book Finesse Bass Fishing and the Sonar Connection is dated but it’s spot on understanding 2D sonar. Tom

Tail or nose hook a night crawler and fly line with or without the split shot with or without the slip bobber. Every game fish eats night crawlers! Tom PS, like the circle hook!

If your rod has standard size guides several easy to tie knots work good; Uni-Uni, Alberto, Kerh leader knot etc. Micro swivels used for fly fishing also work unless your rod has micro guides. You don’t need a FC leader any premium mono has better knot strength and abrasion resistance. Tom

Shimano Twin Power spinning reels are very durable but not abuse resistant, no reel is! Tom
