  1. When fishing Lake of the Woods Bomber BSW16A XCHO 6” long A was a big Pike killer lure and never had a Pike bite it off. Tom
  2. I used 25 Armilo for 4 years on 3 reels and never broke any swimbaits. The knot was SD jam knot tied direct no clip. Clips have small dia wire vs larger dia hook wire = stronger knot strength. I always re tie before fishing and never leave Mono/FC knots tied on over night. I re tie if I think the line or knot is weakened. Tom
  3. You need to be accurate regardless of the distance imo. I cast jig between 90’ to 150’ very long casts. Try to land the jig within a hula hoop size target. No problem getting hook sets using my reel and rod sweep hook set. The issue is strike detection and that takes years to develop. Only make long cast during day time never at night, no depth perception, happy as long as the lure hits water! Tom
  4. Install the clip onto the lure then use the lures weight to assist tying the San Diego Jam knot. Tom
  5. Shore Wind is blowing onto… Tom
  6. If you twisted the double line loop putting the clip through that causes the line to cross over itself flatting the line when clinched tight resulting in knot failure. Try testing the knot strength before casting. Also be careful when stringing the line through the guides especially the tip guide goes through the rings and not the frame. Tom
  7. Tail race water is fast moving and you are a shore fisherman. I suggest going with inshore salt water combo to handle strong river big fish in lieu of standard bass tackle. Daiwa has spinning combo’s like; BG 4000/701MH, 7’ size 4000 reel. line 30 lb braid with 20 lb Big Game leader and back up line. You only need about 100 yards of braid so use the mono to fill the spool about 1/2 with braid top shot and Big Game leader about 20’ long. Tom
  8. My offer is still available. Tom
  9. Yes Fins Spin5 10 lb is .005D, 15 lb is .006D Tom
  10. GYCB (Yamamoto) offered plain or pianted football and spider jigs with optional Owner or Gamakatsu hooks for decades at a good price about .75c each. Recommended Gary’s jigs w/Hula grub on BR multiple times. Tom PS, op ‘s living rubber jigs appear to be 80’s vintage judging from the hook.
  11. Every buoy and a anchor that attracts plankton and bait fish. Gizzard Shad get too big for most bass to swallow over 6” long. Shad are pelagic fish the seek cover at night, move out during bright sun. Keitech 3.8 Fat Shad color on Owner 1/4 oz Flashy Swimmer is excellent Shad imitation. The obvious location all bass anglers can find but…. Few figure out how to approach and present lures to trigger strikes. This means trying different angles and bass anglers miss. Your lake could be getting ready to turnover or has already? Do you use finesse tackle and lures? Tom
  12. Welcome to BR. I see you are located in St Luis MO area with LMB. 600 acre man made reservoir is small considering the recreational use, water contact sports and weekly club tournaments. I am a believer in seasonal periods* affecting bass behavior based on water temperature. Your small lake was once a valley with a seasonal stream before the dam was constructed. This means a topographic map is available to determine what maybe under the before the dam was built. Assume You have boat with sonar unit to survey areas for structure or man made cover like brush piles. Your lake has a boat launch with docks that is where the local tourneys release the bass. Always a good area to check out. Most MO lakes are stocked with green sunfish before LMB are introduced for baitfish. The lake may also have some type of Shad and crawdads. Do focus your lures on what the bass are feeding on and where the prey is located. The aquatic growth is maintained by the property owner association for water sports. Does the lake have a specific buoyed off zone for skiing and time period restriction? Tom *Cosmic Clock and Bass Behavior PM if you want a copy
  13. The the reason I had so many rods in my boat was when I found a rod that worked good bought a back up. When I had custom rods built always bought 3. Yes preferred application specific rods but also had rods with multiple lure use. Today when bass fishing I take 5 combos that do multiple uses and it limits lure choices. Tom
  14. What trailer weighs 1/2oz? Tom
  15. Toxic can help read the date code. Older style bronze Mustad hooks need to be sharpen. Tom
  16. I am older then specific application rods were thought of. We had a bass casting rod period. Around 1970 I made a crank bait rod using Fenwick salt water popping rod 7’ blank and trigger handle, used it for decades. Swimbaits weighing over 3 oz required the next set of application rods as musky rod were too stiff and heavy. Todays MHF rod is yesterdays bass rod for multi use. My advice is pick up the rod and feel it before buying, you may surprise yourself and find that perfect rod you are looking for. I sold over 20 rods and reels 4 years ago and kept 5, 3 finesse spinning, 1 of my custom ALX jig rod and Iovino’s Splash-It NAC-T681M/SI rod for utility use; top water, medium crank baits ,shaking T-rigs and spoons. Tom
  17. Where are the monitors? If the member chooses to convert the livewell into deep fryer that is a choice. Tom
  18. There is a swivel on the blade end! Tom Blakemore Road Runner (horse head) was the 1st underspin followed by Sworming Hornet (fish head) both work good. Owner Flashy swimmer extends the blade under the swimbait and is free to swing reducing bending the wire. Adding a hook hanger to the underside of the mold you could duplicate the Owner Flashy Swimming kit. Tom
  19. Currently using St Criox Spinning Victory 7’3” MFX rod with Shimano Vanford 2500 reel. Drop shot Sunline Sniper 7# FC. Nose hook or wacky Owner Mosquito size 1, weedless rigged Owner 5133 size 2/0. Soft plastics Roboworm 4” Sculpin, 6” straight tail. Custom hand pour 5” straight tail. US Bait 3 1/2” Reaper. Wacky rigged Jackall 4.8 Flick Shake Weight Owner drop shot 1/8, 3/16 & 1/4 oz. Tom
  20. All my hard lures are discontinued and about half the soft plastics since Iovino isn’t making them. My jigs are my own and pork rind jig trailers. Sunline Armilo is no longer available🤬 Tom
  21. Back when I had my boat and was bass fishing a lot carried 15+ combo’s. Only my swimbait rods were over 7’10” to 8”. My rods were 6’10” jig & worm to 7’ rods. The 1 rod 7’5” was Irod IRG 754F Freds Magic Stick designed to be a frog rod, 1/2 oz to 2 oz lures rated H. I bought the rod for frog fishing the Delta and Clear lake occasionally. I started using the Magic Stick for lures 1 1/2 oz deep diving crank baits, rats and wake baits to 1 3/4 oz and 1 oz jigs w/larger trailers. Very versatile rod the newer gen 3 is lighter weight. $150 Tom
  22. Tournament fishing with weigh in you release your winning bass! The majority of bass lakes during tournament dates are warm water fisheries requiring managing the water temps in the livewell. Totally agree all tournaments should adopt catch weigh/measure photo and release ASAP! Tom
  23. Generally speaking a 15 gallon livewell can support 5 bass weight 15 lbs if properly manage*with good aeration to keep the DO levels good and water temperature around 70-75 degrees. Not familiar with your boat suggest asking a Tracker Dealer. Tom PS, 231 square inches per gallon of water. Length X width X depth divided by 231 = gallons. * Sure Life Catch & Release additive.
  24. Cabelas rods in the early 90’s were Fenwick Fish Eagles. Still available from Fenwick. Tom
