  1. All I'm saying is it was fun watching the bobber go down. I am not an expert at this. I've only done it once. But I do know that you don't need a fancy rod for this, because sensitivity has nothing to do with it. Hell, I was using a regular fly rod on sunday and that made it really difficult to cast. I still had a good time. BTW, I also threw a jerkbait and a jigs so I didn't fish the fly all day long. The Fly was the only thing that got any bites.
  2. Well, I didn't find it boring at all. It was quite fun watching the bobber go under. You don't need any specialized rod either, sure you could buy the g loomis F&F rod for $300 but the BPS micro lite rods for $50 are just fine. You don't need a sensitive rod to fish the fly.
  3. Can anyone give some tips about this technique. I just learned how to do it on Sunday at Dale Hollow. I only landed one smallie, but I had a few pull downs I missed. It seems to be the key when the water is so cold. Any advice would really help. thanks.
  4. I bought these last week: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_85096?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT&cmid=PP_P1_2 I used them for the first time on Sunday at Dale Hollow, they were a life saver. It was freezing out there. They kept my hands dry and the thumb and fore finger tip fold back to aid in knot tying. Got em on clearance too. I would recommend something to stick inside of them like a hand warmer if it's really cold, they are kind of thin.
  5. I found a stradic FH on clearance last month at dicks, and it was bone dry. I'm sure it was sitting in a warehouse for a while so I put a drop of oil in it and it was good to go. Give yours a little oil and it should be fine.
  6. Stick with Shimano, Abu, or Diawa and you won't have much to worry about.
  7. I've been on that same pattern here. The big fish love those excaliburs.
  8. LOL. Best part of that whole movie.
  9. X3 on the rapala crankbaits. Caught my PB on a bluegill rapala dt4.
  10. Sufix elite 6-8# is a good mono for spinning reels. Try yo-zuri hybrid for a co-poly I like it a whole lot more than mono.
  11. Oct 2008, bluegill colored rapala dt4. 8# even.
  12. X2. thats a must.
  13. I got some Oakley five-O's from zappos.com last valentines day because my gf's dog ate my original pair. They were on clearance for $110, they probably don't have them anymore. But I'm sure they have others and they are great to deal with, free nextday shipping too.
  14. Now, I don't do much crappie fishing but when I do it is with a Light or Ultra light spinning rod. You won't be able to cast those tiny crappie jigs on a baitcaster. I would suggest you get a 5'6" or 6' light action spinning rod with a small spinning reel like a symetre 750 or 1000.
  15. Excellent, I was wondering how to get the bearings out of the handle knobs.
  16. Welcome, how can I get more info about joining? I live in Franklin and fish Percy Priest often.
  17. Awesome baits. I used the XRK75 (one knocker) on Sunday and caught five bass ranging from 2-6.1 lbs. Needless to say I plan on buying 10 more next time I'm at BPS.
  18. I use the Crucial 7' MH its a great rod for throwing football jigs of that size. It's light, very strong, and super sensitive. It's a great rod for the price. I even got mine on clearance for $105.
  19. It sure does swim well but it is very small. I put one next to a spro BBZ-1 4" and it looked like it could eat the the tru-life. A bigger hook may throw it out of whack too.

The best day on the water I've had in a long long time.
  21. I picked up an excalibur XRK75 from the Delo's booth at the Nashville fishing expo, and took it out today. I caught five bass on it one 2#, two over 3# and two over 5# (5.2 and 6.1). By far the best lipless crank I've ever thrown. I think I am going to sell all my rat-l-traps, super spots, and red eye shads to buy these baits. They are definately big fish baits.
  22. Took my first real trip of the year. The weather has been great for the last few days, today it was about 70. I went to a private lake where my buddy lives. I found the warmest water I could 49* by the end of the day and started chuckin an Excalibur Xrk75. Today, was a big fish day. I only caught 5 bass today, and all from the same spot. I found an area where warm water was running into the lake from a retaining pond. It was the only spot on the lake where fish were biting. The first bass of 09 went 6#1oz. What a way to start the year!!! I made a few more casts and left the spot. I returned about 2 o'clock and immediately caught another nice 3.5 bass, made 2 more casts and nailed a solid 5#2oz LMB. A few more casts and bam another 4# bass. I finished out my limit with a decent 2# lmb. All bass came on the XRK75 rattlebait. I tried a few other baits and had no takers, it must be that knocker in these baits. The bass loved it. Unfortunately, in all the commotion getting these big girls in the boat my cell phone took a bath and all my pictures are gone. :'( Oh well it was a great day none the less. May get to go back tom. if I get off work early enough.
  23. I went to the Nashville fishing expo today and he was waiting right at the front door. He must have known I got my tax return today. I was dissappointed with last years show, wasn't really much to see. This years was ten times better. Delo's had a booth there with lots of good stuff. I got a Spro BBZ-1 Shad, Sebile Magic swimmer 110, an Excalibur XRK75 rattlebait, two LC FlatCB20, and a pack of Netbait paca chunks. I also picked up 3 1/2oz Picasso Fantasy Football jigs, a Tru-Life 4" swimbait and one Secret Weapon spinnerbait. I decided I needed to leave after spending over $100 on baits. Bait monkey and the guy from delo's were both telling me to buy two dobyns rods but I said NO. A small victory I guess. ;D
  24. Thanks guys I will look into the berkeley swimbaits. I've got some screw lock hooks made by diaichi* called the buttdragger. They seem pretty good.
