How Old Is Old?

Age alone doesn't garner respect.

That's like having a job longer than anyone else merely by not getting fired.

When I encounter someone older than me, they WILL get my respect. Yes, even if I think they are an undeserving JACKASS. I have no way of knowing what they have been through, or what made them the way they are. To me, showing respect, is more about me being who I should be, rather than him or her being whom I think they ought to be.

Seventy-two, plus 41 days.  I drove the 1,230 miles to the Road Trip last year in 23.5 hours, including three stops at rest areas to get some shuteye.  I can still get around.  No aches, no pains.

You're definition of respect is being grumpy :D

If you young guys don't want to fish with us old guys because we are too grumpy it's ok. It will just leave that many more fish for us. :laugh5:

George Strait said it well ~

"Well, the truth about a mirror
Is that a damned old mirror
Don't really tell the whole truth
It don't show what's deep inside
Or read between the lines
And it's really no reflection of my youth"

Grumpy's not the problem. It's the uncontrollable flatulence

Not sure what you mean, but if my comment came off as grumpy, I never meant it that way.

My sincerest apologies.

I actually agree, to a point.

Everyone, regardless of age, gets my cordial respect from the get-go. That first impression when meeting or interacting with a person goes a LOOOOOONG way in determining how long they hold that respect and to what level it evolves. If they seem like a person worth knowing past that initial encounter, that is when you get into TRUE respect for that individual.

Honest, true respect is most certainly earned.

Hootie I would agree that treating an older person with respect is fundamental to those of us who were brought up that way, and is an important part of a civilized society. I also know a few older folks who because of their bitter attitude have chased off those who would reach out to them. We all have baggage that effects our view of the world, but how we are treated is in very large part dependent on how we treat others.

Agree contemptuous acts of disrespect isn't always directed at the older generation and respect must be earned.

Longevity in the work place isn't granted to the incompetent unless you are tenured or protected.

The average age for those who participated in this thread is 65 years, meaning they made to retirement age.

I believe congratulations are due to those members.

Well that makes much more sense than 31 feeling like 80 !!!

I can't begin to tell you how happy I am to hear you are free from that F'n disease for the past 6yrs , I wish you nothing but the absolute best , thoughts and prayers for a continued recovery and much success in getting back to as close to normal as you possibly can .

Good luck and be safe !!!

God bless !!!

I liked what BigBill said in another thread: "God let me catch the football of life and now I'm gonna run with it." No more downs for you, Bill!   :hangloose:
