Whats Your Favorite Rod And Reel?

Featured Replies

What rod and reel is your favorite? My favorite bait cast is my h20 express Camo meetle. My favorite spinning is a shimano stradic. I'm a Abu Garcia and Shimano guy.

Favorite reel is a Antares HG and right now, the rod would be a Loomis MBR844IMX. My favorite rod will change soon because Fathers Day is right around the corner.

We've been through this plenty of times.  Personally I can't choose just one of either.  Biggest problem is that although I practiced my casting last year quite a bit with several new-2-me combos, it isn't the same as actually fishing.  For b/c reels the Zillion 50th, Purple Alphas, Curado 51E, Fuego and Patriarch XT are high on my list.  Rods it is tougher.  In casting rods an older Shimano 7'2" MHF, Fenwick 7' MHF Aetos, 6'10" MF Smallmouth and a custom 7'MHF Rainshadow RX7 are well liked.  However, I can't forget my Falcon Experts.  The first really good rods I bought.  Still like them.

Spinning gear didn't even get used last year other than to try out a new micro guide rod.  I hated it.  I do like my Villain ML which I feel is closer to a Medium.  Haven't used the Fuego I purchased over the winter.  My nicest spinning rod is an older Cielo, but since it is a MH it doesn't get used much because I prefer b/c for those weights.  An older Fenwick Elite Tech 6'6" MF jig and worm rod ain't too shabby.  :teeth:

Spinning reel brands are rather limited.  I like my older Daiwas.

Current fav is my Chronarch 50e + BPS Carbonlite 6'6", now about 6'2" (which I actually like better than the original length).

My favorites change frequently so in a week this answer may be totally different but as of right now...

Casting: Shimano Chronarch 101B

              Powell Max 735 frog rod

Spinning: Shimano Stella 3000FD

                Shimano Cumara 7'2" MH

I actually don't have my favorite casting reel and rod paired together. 101B is on a Shimano Clarus 7' MH and the 735 has a Citica 201E (which is a very nice reel in it's own right, especially after all the mods) on it. The spinning rod and reel however are a combo.

The 101B has all the internal upgrades, carbontex drag, OS 7 spool bearings, ceramic line guide pawl, and lastly all of the appropriate parts and spots have been polished, that you normally hear guys making. Most complain about this reel's weight but it doesn't bother me in the least, in fact I'm pretty sure that's one of the reasons I like it so much. Well not so much the weight but what the weight means, solid aluminum construction throughout which translates into better overall operation. It just feels like a tank. Love these reels.
