The only thing worse than a rock bass is a small rock bass. What an embarrassment.

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

The other day I got this guy.

Didn't catch anything on this crankbait, but threw it a few minutes.

Different spot. Didn't weight him, but was a 2.5. This was the first cast when we came up to this spot. I used it as an opportunity to teach the boy about stealth.

My friend Zach caught this one yesterday at our church farm pond , on a wacky rigged senko.

No scale or tape to measure it , of course.

I would estimate it at 10 pounds.

It’s the church  farm pond cracken. Not the church pond cracken Ive been after.

I probably caught this fish when it was 3 1/2 pounds. Another friend caught it several years ago when it was around 7 pounds…

I should have focused on this fish. But the farm pond is heavily pressured by the men who live their on site…

It was released , so who knows? Maybe I’ll catch it again…

Fingers crossed for you, buddy.

Speaking of buddies and Krakens, I surely hope your buddy said, "Release the Kraken!" when he did. Like this guy:

@Swamp Girl That guy kinda looks like zach lol

@Pat Brown  Different fish. This fish was caught out at our church FARM pond, which is around 25 miles from the church pond where I  keep trying to catch that one.

Seems like the fertilizer and run off is making mutants at the church farm pond.

Better make volunteering at the church farm a priority this summer!  😂😂😂

I can fish there anytime I want. I didn’t want to seem like I was jumping on the bandwagon trying to catch it. There were 2 guys trying to catch it again when I was there last night…

3 hours on The Bayou (one of them, anyway) this morning, 9:30-12:30

20250509_Bayou.jpg.37dd1efbeb13177ffa66ac467bc773b0.jpg

Took a about an hour for them to wake up, but then I caught 10 in the last 2 hours; half were keeper sized.  A DShad did most of the work, but it needed to sit there without me moving it for 5-10 seconds before they would hit.

A few more-or-less cookie-cutter 14"-15"ers:

And then one pretty good one at 3.34lb:

This carp hit my crankbait and I had him hooked in the mouth. Never caught a carp before, but seen a few others had caught.

My scale was in kilograms when I grabbed it, so I converted that to 7.25 pounds.

IMG_3896.jpg

Time for a retie after that critter.

IMG_3901.jpg

2.0 lbs on a fat albert grub with a 1/4oz jig head.

IMG_3902.jpg

I don't remember if it was before or after the bass, but I hooked a nice sized gar on one of those grubs. Cut my line in twain though.

Had a carp for a minute it seems.

IMG_3903.jpg

Got this nice crappie, and I threw him back during a flurry of pleads from a couple of onlooks. It was his lucky day since I am catch and release...

IMG_3904.jpg

Bit off more than he could chew.

IMG_3906.jpg

I caught another carp of about the same size right before I left. I foul hooked him with the Fat Free Fingerling. Got him to the shallows, up on a rock skimmed with water. The hook came out just about the time he got up there, and since the boy was handy, I told him to kick him back in rather than try to get a picture. A nudge from the youngun's rain boot and the ordeal was over for the beast - sure beats going into the bucket.

The boy didn't catch anything, but we had a lot of fun.

I took my boy out to the pond. I caught a dink my first cast. Didn't photograph him.

And then it was three more dinks in an hour. I helped my boy hold the rod and reel, my hands over his, and this way I helped him reel in two fish of his own. He refused to let go of his dandelion, even when reeling in a live fish. He thought the "dewee" were pretty cool, but found the flopping a bit off-putting.

The smallest catch of the day was my own solo work:

After an hour it was time to head home as we'd promised his Mama we wouldn't be more than an hour. I ask him if he wanted to go home to see Mama and his baby sister. He said "no." I asked if he wanted to keep fishing. His answer was a big grin and vigorous head nods. The 1.5 year old has the bug. I'm so proud. 😄 We FaceTimed his mom, and she told us she didn't need us back right away, so we nabbed one more tiny bass before heading home for dinner:

We weren't winning any competitions, but honestly, the small fish were the perfect size for the small boy. It was a fun time.

@IcatchDinks: Future headline:

ICD, Jr. Breaks Largemouth Record Again!

Professional Bass Angler, ICD, Jr. broke the largemouth bass world record for the fifth time yesterday.

Asked to explain the unprecedented feat, ICD, Jr. said, "I was nearly born with a fishing rod in my hand. My dad used to take me fishing when I just one."

The new world record bass weighed 27 pounds, 6 ounces, besting his former record by four ounces. It was caught on a lure that he designed, the Dink-O-Daddy, named after his father.

That river trip earlier wasn't enough, and since I needed to swing by the church, I hit the pond a bit.

Curlytail grubs on jigheads and the Johnson Silver Minnow today. I've never had success with the minnow, so this was a good start. Grubs, well I've had a bit of success, but honestly I've mostly fished them texas rigged so jig heads are a new rigging for me. Both tied with the Kreh loop knot.

There was also another that I didn't get a picture of. But he gets honorable mention for spirit, as he unhooked himself upon hitting shore, then squiggled off the thumb and flopped back in.

Nice ones @Bazoo, what’d you have on the back of the silver minnow? I’ve had best luck with split tail spinnerbait trailer so far but I haven’t fished the bait long either

Thanks. I had the Zoom split tail trailer.

@N Florida Mike: You've had quite a 2025, Mike. I've lost count of all your 20"+ bass.

@Bazoo: Now I want to try a Johnson Silver Minnow. I'll dig one out and give it a go, but I won't buy a Zoom Split Tail Trailer. I have plenty of other soft plastics that will work.
