What Rod Power Do You Use For Jigs?

Featured Replies

Ive been using md heavy for a while now and it just doesn't seem like it can deal with pitching and just fishing a 1/2 oz jig, what do you use? im looking for suggestions as to what rod i should get

Light wired hooks on MH

Stouter hooks with a H or Mag Heavy

I am still testing the waters as far as jigs are concerned. A 3/16oz Finesse Jig with a Rage Baby Craw trailer, a Medium/XF Loomis. A 3/8oz jig with a Rage Baby Craw Trailer, hopefully a MH/F Loomis and a 3/8oz jig with a Rage Craw trailer, a H/F Loomis. It's amazing what the size of the trailer can do to the overall weight and profile of a jig.

Heavy.

Just made the transition this past season from medium heavy, to heavy. Has made a world of difference from hooksets,

to fish in the boat. However, I do use both.

This, exactly.

I use med, med/hvy, Hvy, Xhvy.  All depends on what I'm doing.  If I was to pick the one I mostly use its heavy.

Keep in mind that not all rod ratings are the same, two rods with are listed as MH may feel completely different. One closer to M while the other is closer to H. If possible best to check out each rod in person so you get a feel for them.

I was satisfied with the way my MHF rod fished jigs this past season, but I bought a HF rod and a  MHF "Finesse" rod for next season.  I think I'll have the bases covered for various kinds of jig fishing.

MH or H with XF action.my jig rod is a 4 power powell endurance& it's labeled as hvy but I would call it a mh.as a side note &sorry if i'm hi-jacking the thread but does any one use braid with x-fast actions? I would think the no stretch braid&quick transition into the back bone of the rod would break it.

I'm a little different I prefer more of a flipping stick type rod for my jig fishing.

Megabass orochii xx 7'9"

Powell endurance 775

Dobyns champion 735, dx745, or 766 flip

How ever I do alot of deep water structure fishing out here in California over 30-60+ ft regularly

Any rod that can handle an ounce or ounce and a quarter with xfast action.

I don't often get to 1 oz but that's the stiffness I want.

G Loomis Heavy XF

St Croix MH/F

If only it were that easy.  It depends on the rod, the jig, the line and the cover being fished.  Not all rods are rated the same and not all jigs are 1/2 oz.

ML to XH............it all depends on the jig and the cover,

My #1 is MH/XF.

I prefer The LEC70MHF for most situations.  I would say i fish light to moderate cover at most.

7' or 7'3 MH/F braid with fluoro leader

All about the water for me.  I go out of my way not to fish heavy vegetation or punch mats, I'm not using heavy rods.  I fish light power spinning usually with my own tied 1/8 oz jigs or a bonefish flats jig for bass.  In my canals fishing a jig and trailer it's usually  7'med spinning.
