right now fish are super finicky up here and from what I've heard most northern states. Probably a good time to focus on smallmouth in deeper areas.

It depends on your definition of deep and the type of lake you fish.  I fish some lowland reservoirs where 20 feet would be deep fishing.  I fish some highland reservoirs where 50 - 60 feet is deep fishing.  

 

For lowland reservoirs, I favor a football or brush jig depending on the bottom.

 

For highland reservoirs, I like a jigging spoon with a dropshot not far behind.

 

These aren't the only lures I fish deep but I seem to have the most success using them.

For 10 - 20 feet I would say crank. Deeper than that, carolina rig or football jig. If the crank fails to produce in the 10 - 20 range, out comes the latter two.

Don't overlook slow rolling a spinnerbait in deep either, it just has tremendous fish attraction power.

Going deep means jigs in any dark color. 

Unable to respond to poll as my favorite is whatever would be best for a given situation. If I had to choose though it would be a blade bait.  Or maybe a drop shot. or maybe a c-rig or maybe a big heavy jig and swimbait combo. I can't decide. I mean I've caught bass in over 50' on a Keitech Salty Core in the middle of winter. A very slow way to fish for sure but it worked.

My deepest running bait is a "Jig-&-Craw", but not a football jig (not in Florida)

C-rig/mojo for deep, most flat structure. Texas and jigs for deep sloping structures

Ha-ha.  Raul is one of our resident "wanna be comedians".  I'm assuming he has another source of income.

I fish from shore only so don't get to really fish deep water but if I did I'd probably give some of the deep diving crankbaits and dropshotting first crack at it!
