worm and jig rod choices?

Featured Replies

Hey guys I am looking for a new worm and jig rod, I be throwing a lot of texas rigs, jigs, wobble heads, and other plastics with this rod, right now I have my choices, in a list but please feel free to mention any others if they are below $150

my current choices are:

Dobyns fury 703C (I am leaning toward this one)

Lew's TP-1 Speed Stick IM8

Powell Inferno Casting Rod

Okuma Scott Martin Signature TCS Casting Rod

Daiwa Tatula Casting Rod

Duckett Ghost

I like the Powell but for 150 you can pick up a max 3d. As long as you keep the jigs 1/2 oz. and under the 723 would be my choice.

Also makes a great spinnerbait rod.

iRod Genesis II IRG744C. ;)

The tatula is the best deal of the bunch. It can be found for 110 on eBay

I use a fenwick aetos and hmg. The aetos was on sale for about $120, but im not sure if it still is.

+1 just under $150 the IRG744C- MH is one of the most universal and under rated jig-worm rods on the market.

The 703 Fury may be under powered for a worm/jig rod. I would suggest you consider the 704 or even better, the 734.   Look at the specs for each model and that should explain why I would move up a power.  The 734 in all Dobyns' series are very versatile. You've picked an extremely competitive group of rods, that's for sure.

In that price range, I'd take a close look at the St. Croix Mojo Bass Worm and Jig Rod. I bought the 6'8" model earlier this summer and absolutely fell in love with it. It's a great rod at the $130 price point. They also have a 7'1" model as well. Since their redesign, the sensitivity has went up and they have improved the overall balance of them.

St Croix Jig-N-Worm, or Jigs/Baits. They retail around $120. Great rods for the money!

My vote goes to falcon lowrider  amistad

I'll throw in another vote for the Tatula. It's hard to beat

Im also looking at a jig and worm rod.  I was looking at a tatula just not sure how the weird flared reel seat will feel.  Im looking at that rod or the dobyns sierra.  never actually seen a powell im person but im intrigued.

I don't know much about the other two rods. As far as the reel seat goes on the Tatula, once you put a reel on, you won't even notice it. The reel seat actually gives you a nice platform to have your finger in contact with the blank

The reel seat on the Tat kept me from buying them. ACS reel seat or I pass.  I have two Team Diawa rods. 6' and 6'6" MH. Great rods.

I ordered a fury 734 so I could save money for an E6x :)
