I fish Texas rigged baits more than anything else in my boat.  I fish them deep, shallow, in clear water, and in dirty water.  I use a 7"3 med heavy extra fast with a 7:5:1 gear ratio real and 15 lb floruocarbon.  I like that combo but was wondering if people could comment what their favorite Texas rig combo is. (Not for flipping super heavy cover)

I use a MH/MF 7' older Falcon Lowrider. I have 30 lb braid on it. I don't use a leader as a rule, but I will occasionally take a Sharpie to the last few feet of line. Also, I use this for a C-rig on occasion and I'll use some mono for the leader then. I use an equally older BPS Johnny Morris reel with 5.2:1 retrieve. I bought it off Ebay and had it worked on and now it's smooth as butter and casts light rigs down to 1/8. I usually use 3/16-1/4 though. If I had it to do over, I'd probably have a retrieve in the 6.3 range, but I got what I got. Seems to me these days there's almost no need for a ratio lower than 6.

Texas rig is a pretty broad range of rigs. You can rig something weightless and it's still texas rigged all the way up to a two oz punching weight. I'm assuming you're somewhere in the middle when it comes to the amount of weight you use. For those I'd think a MH rod would be a good match. I'd either use my 6'8" MH/F or my 7'1" MH/F. The XF action is good if you plan on just using it for single hook applications.

Yeah I would say the main thing I would be doing is flipping a small 3/8 ounce weight or deep worming

I dont fish texas rig very often, but if I do I would use the same rod that I use for dropshot or jig rod depend on weight and how deep water.

My setup, bank or shallow water, weight 1/4 or less, crucial Medium Fast 6'8", curado 70hg line hybrid #6

deeper water weight 1/4 or higher, ateos MH xtra fast 7'2", chornarch 50e with hybrid #8 or curado 100d with 30# braid

 

I use a 7'3 mh/xf rod with either a 7 or 8 speed reel.

pick the rod and line according to the cover you fish. alot of these west coast guys are going with 8-12 pound flouro. that's suicide where I live. nrx 873 crr with a curado and 15 -20 pound tatsu. can't put it down. even thought it's a built crig rod I believe it's the perfect trig rod for me 

If I'm using lighter t rigs I use an nrx 893 with a metanium mgl xg.

I'm the same way as you. I constantly have a Texas rig tied on. I'll fish it in most clear, shallow water. This setup has provided everything I've ever asked for.

I use a 7 foot med hvy fast tip rod .  The line has changed numerous times over the year and will will probably change again . Right now its 17 lb test blue fluorescent Trilene XL . Its only .015 in diameter limp , castable and strong .  I like that visibility and it is suppose to disappear quickly under the water . I dont know if it does or not but   I'll take the manufacturers  word for it and I have good luck with it in the stained to muddy waters that I fish  .

ideally i like a 8:1 or higher ratio for baits i work with the rod rather than the reel. 7.x:1 is totally fine.

I use a 7ft berkley emotion because im broke lol but honestly it is a very good rod for tx rigs

That's a solid set up. Right now I use a Dobyn's DX745 with a Lew's Super Duty spooled with 12lb Sunline Assassin.
