Does Anyone Use Mono for Jigs/Spinnerbaits?

Featured Replies

I know most people use either braid or fluorocarbon for jigs, spinnerbaits, t-rigs with senkos/craws but does anybody use mono for these techniques too like let's just say P-Line CXX clear (just an example)?

I have no gripe with using mono for jigs or spinnerbaits. Especially spinnerbaits.

If I am bank fishing a clear water pond or canal I will without hesitation use mono. If I happen to have jigs and spinnerbaits with me and that is the line I am using then they will go on there too lol.

Disclaimer: The mono lines I use have less stretch than many others I have tried.

I use Sunline Mono and Senshi. They don't have the same stretch as your regular mono. They are also thinner diameter.

So...if mono can be used for jigs/spinnerbaits could fluoro be used for smaller topwaters like poppers, buzzbaits and spook type baits? I'm probably overthinking this but I'm just trying to find a good all-around line for my jack of all trades rod/reel setup. I have my heavy setup with braid for frogs, heavier topwaters and larger jigs/spinnerbaits and I'm using 12lb. Invizx for my crankbait rod now I just need the most versatile line for my most versatile rod and I'll be set :).

Not recommended since fluoro sinks

I'd personally do braid with leader for all around

I use a mostly co-polymer and braid.

I use 30lb braid to 14lb sufix elite mono for jigs a lot. I catch fish just fine, dont notice any difference with 30lb braid to 15lb fluoro that i also use.

I pretty much use nylon for everything.

this, 20 lb. if I'm in heavy cover.

If you guys watch bamabass on youtube, the guy catches double didgits frequently, and all he uses for jigs and texas rigs is 17lb stren mono. I personally dont like fluoro, but will use it if im going to be dragging stuff on the bottom all day.

Same here.  Braid for slop though

How about something like Sunline Defier Armilo?

I only have two days of fishing this stuff, but I am loving it so far.  It's quite strong, seems to have the same amount of stretch as 12lb Invixz, and is really forgiving when it comes to working out backlashes.  I have it on my light jerk/crank combo and am thinking using it on my travel combo as well.

What the man said.

CXX is good for spinnerbaits and fine for jigs. Shop by diameter.

Nylon mono is good for spinnerbaits as well.

I use cxx for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, and cranking. Have used it with succes for every technique before. Shop by diameter. Breaking strength is higher than lb test.

yo zuri hybrid is a great and cheap all-around line. not my first choice for jigs but great with moving baits.

I actually like the Coastal Brown color and apparently the fish do too as I get plenty of bites. But yeah the 12# is on both my crankbait rods and 15# on a few other rods.

That guy does land some serious fish and I noticed he always uses that same 17# Stren. I have used Original Stren as well and it works fine too.
