Yall ever have this? Tip of my reeling thumb has been numb for 2 weeks after a trip in the cold rain.  Never had it happen before.

Maybe....See a doctor.  That doesnt sound normal.

Until I exceeded the age of 65, I was totally unfamiliar with the litany of common trivial maladies.

Since that time however, they've become a nearly daily experience to which I'm learning to adjust.

 

The last thing I'd do is run to a doctor (will likely ignite a costly witch-hunt)

If the feeling in your thumb doesn't return within a full minute (60 seconds),

then the cause is most likely due to nerve damage and is not circulatory.

No Big Deal, the body works constantly to repair nerve damage,

and this time next year you'll probably have trouble remembering the incident.

I'm definitely with roger on this, I hate running to the doctor. It's always the same thing, they think it's joint damage so they send you for X-ray, then you get to sit and wait forever, get the $300 picture, go back to the doctor, sit and wait more, then he tells you to have surgery or live with it. So basically you're out several hundred dollars and a wasted day. No thank you, I'll just go fishing. 

My whole hand goes numb every night.,and every now and then,during the day.I went to see the doc once about it 25 years ago.You know what his solution was?? Sleep on my other side!!

It either happenned when my friend ran us into an oak tree and my thumb broke in 3 places,or when a boss of mine( another friend) made me drive fence posts into the ground with the end of an axe handle.

I wouldn't worry about it.I dont.' Course,Im not a doctor sooo....

Mike, you should've told him that you WERE sleeping on your other side.

But then again, he'd probably say: "Okay, instead of 90 bucks, give me four 20s and a saw buck

Oh I had no intention of going to doctor!  Just curious how common this was.

If I were a doctor, I'd definitely recommend playing switch. Warm moist heat is good for the healing process. For the first 12 hours of the day, keep the affected thumb in your mouth and the unaffected thumb up your rear. After 12 hours play switch. Continue until the numbness is gone.

That happens to me a lot when fishing cold weather. Never amounted to anything, I still refuse to use gloves 

I've had a blood vessel burst in one of my fingers and it caused that sensation, or lack of sensation. It was temporary and gone in a few days.

We need an update! Do you still have a thumb???

Its still a tad numb but improving.  Was afraid my latest trip would relapse my issue but it didnt.

 

I think the issue was I wore sungloves and temperatures dipped and it rained.  My hand must have swelled and my thumb tip had a lot of use reeling and braking spool.  I thought my hands were just cold at the moment.

If you are a diabetic you might have Neuropathy. I do my hands go numb all the time.

Sounds like you damaged the nerve somehow.  How hard were you thumbing the spool?

I took spool tension knob off and everytime I cast, the trees around me sway.

My butt is numb from the crappy weather we been having. Rainstorms muddying the waters, raising the river and giving me that unhappy feeling.

I'm type 2. Won't get into the details but once told don't go to the Dr. everything will work out. Discounted that advice. I'm alive today. Never play Dr.
